“Red and yellow and pink and green, Purple and orange and blue, I can eat a rainbow, eat a rainbow, eat a rainbow too.” With apologies to composer Arthur Hamilton, whose original children’s song was about singing a rainbow, his lyrics bring to mind last week’s annual Rainbow Week at West Jefferson Elementary School. Students tried colorful fruits and vegetables, some that they had never eaten before. Monday was blue and purple day, Tuesday was orange day, Wednesday was green day, Thursday was yellow and white day and Friday was red day. Students wore the color of the day,
answered riddles and created a colorful paper chain to line the school’s hallways. The colorful activities bring awareness about the superpowers of fruits and vegetables, according to health aide Chris Olsen. “It’s important for them to understand that eating the rainbow is the healthy way to live,” Olsen said. Olsen said students were given the opportunity to try more unusual foods in addition to some of the more standard fruits and vegetables. “Some love it,” Olsen said of the new experiences, “and some say thanks but no thanks. It makes me proud when they try something new.” Second grader Lindy Mandelbaum said she loved trying new foods, and this year she tried asparagus. She thought it would be “really gross,” but it was pretty good, she added. “You should try new fruits and vegetables,” Lindy said, “because you’ll never know if you like it, and it’s good for you, too. When you eat healthy foods, it can help you grow stronger.”

The position is part-time and is for 4-hours per day (12-16 hours per week), April-November. Work hours are generally 8am-12pm Thursday-Sunday depending on scheduled events. Minimum requirements: 2 years of experience, an RN or BSN degree, and an active Colorado nursing license. CNAs needed part-time to full-time to supplement our current staff. Our CNAs provide Home Health and Hospice patient care in the home, in nursing facilities and in assisted living facilities. An active Colorado CNA license is required. Experienced SLP needed part-time to serve our mountain and foothills communities, specifically within our service area along the I-70 corridor. A Master’s degree, 4+ years of experience and an active Colorado license are required. Social Worker needed to be a vital member of our interdisciplinary Palliative Care and Hospice teams based in Evergreen, Colorado (located in the foothills only 20 miles from downtown Denver). This position will provide comprehensive emotional support services for our patients and their caregivers dealing with issues of illness and loss. While this position will primarily work as part of our Palliative Care and Hospice teams, there are also opportunities within the support services team for facilitating group counseling and community education programs. Additionally, you will work with patients and caregivers to develop care plans, advanced directives, and to access community resources. The position is 32 hours a week, with the potential to grow to full-time, is benefits eligible, and is based out of the Evergreen offices, but will require travel to homes throughout the foothills of Clear Creek, Gilpin, Jefferson and Park counties. Requirements: Master of Social Work (MSW) or equivalent experience, ability to demonstrate your competence for supportive counseling and clinical case management, and ability to be an independent team member with strong communication skills; Preferred: A Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with experience in healthcare, aging, disability, caregiving, endof-life planning, critical conversations, crisis counseling, and/or grief.
