Gunner Truby is going home. Home for the Conifer High School senior is Bushland, Texas, a mere 22 miles from the Canyon campus of West Texas A&M. Playing for the Division II Buffaloes has always been a dream. Now, it’s going to become reality after Truby signed his letterof-intent on Feb. 3 during National Signing Day. “It was definitely one of my top choices if I didn’t get anything else. Thank

Having a heart for love

Love and romance sum up Valentine’s Day. Yet, showing our love has taken on new meaning in a pandemic world. People can celebrate at home together, purchase gifts and get creative for the Feb. 14 holiday, and it’s possible to get away, said Gail Sharp, owner of TallGrass Aveda Day Spa on Upper Bear Creek Road in Evergreen. “It is possible to celebrate together and enjoy each other in a safe environment,” Sharp said. “You just need to pay attention to where you are going and who you are trusting. Love is love, and it can be all sorts of things, not just couples — mothers and daughters, two good friends” and more. Gail Riley, owner of Highland Haven Creekside Inn in Evergreen, agrees. “Primarily, it’s getting away from whatever you’re getting away from — being housebound, working hard — and acknowledging love,” she said. “There’s nothing more important than love, and we strive to enhance people’s love.” Riley said it was important for people to feel pampered so they can relax and spend quality time with loved ones. “Valentine’s Day is a wonderful time, and it’s kind of our thing,” Riley said. “It’s Valentine’s Day all year ‘round for us.” She said the pandemic has made it even more important for people to get out in nature to spend quiet time together. “More than ever, we need to be outside taking big deep breaths and seeing something beautiful,” she said. “Everybody needs that, especially those living in the city.” While clientele at Highland Haven come from all over, Riley says they also come from the foothills to get away from their regular routines. Sometimes they run home to let out the dog, but they return for the pampering. Getting away can also include a nice meal at a restaurant or takeout if that is a more comfortable option nowadays. Gifts such as flowers, jewelry, books and other items — available for in-person or virtual shopping at foothills stores — can also say “I love you” to a special someone. Ian Smith, co-owner of Idaho Springs Mountain Gems, said business has been picking up as the days count down to Valentine’s Day. “People still want to take care of their loved ones,” Smith said. Flowers and plants are another great Valentine’s Day gift option, and Brandy Knott, floral designer at Southern Lilies Florist in Conifer, said flowers are the perfect way for people to feel loved. The Valentine’s Day orders started trickling in in late January and are picking up as people send flowers and plants to loved ones near and far. Knott summed up the sentiments

IDEAS TO CELEBRATE VALENTINE’S DAY A question on Facebook yielded great responses about how foothills residents are showing their love for members of their families. Here are some of their ideas: • Last year I went to Go Paint! and painted him a bowl. I wrote 365 reasons why I loved him on strips of paper, cut them up, folded them accordion style and put them in the bowl. Let me tell you, by No. 365 you are coming up with some goofy reasons why you love someone! • We are getting our second COVID-19 vaccine together on Feb. 14. • Cooking amazingly delicious and healthy meals. My hubby says he feels like he is eating at a fine restaurant each night! • Spending time with them. It’s a great way to show someone how much you love them and nothing else can take its place. • Since Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday this year, the best thing I can do for my guy is leave the house, so he can watch sports all day. • One of my kids is a Valentine’s baby, so we usually celebrate his birthday on Valentine’s Day. This year, we’re threatening to make him stream cheesy `80s rom-coms with his parents and younger brothers. As a teenager … he’s being a good sport. • Surprise trip to the hot springs. • I hope to get a reservation to skate on Evergreen Lake. • I write a letter to my 87-year-old grandma living in Europe every week. • Carry out from a local restaurant, local beer/wine, make a succulent garden with a kit from Fun & Funky Gallery and finish with homemade brownies. • Give them a potted plant, so they have something to care for and watch it grow. • Make a heart-shaped meatloaf. • My mom is 90 years old. Now I call her every single day, and our son has been calling us every evening since the pandemic began.

Requirements include: No DUI within the past 5 years, no felonies, must be 21 years of age, must have a valid U.S. driver’s license for at least 12 months and drug screen required. This position performs troubleshooting, welding, mechanical and electrical repair and maintenance on vehicles, equipment and installations used at company shop and customer field site locations if necessary. Experience in Repair and Maintenance of Class 8 Truck Chassis, experience in Industrial Electricity –preferred, but not required. Repair and troubleshooting of 1224 Volt Electrical systems. Welding experience- preferred, but not required. CDL/Class B required, Class A is preferred. Strong work ethic and motivation to perform task independently. Willingness to learn advanced skills. Experienced RN needed part-time to full-time to provide home health and hospice care to our patients in the mountain communities west of Denver. Minimum requirements: 2 years of experience, an RN or BSN degree, and an active Colorado nursing license. CNAs needed part-time to full-time to supplement our current staff. Our CNAs provide Home Health and Hospice patient care in the home, in nursing facilities and in assisted living facilities. An active Colorado CNA license is required. Experienced SLP needed part-time to serve our mountain and foothills communities, specifically within our service area along the I-70 corridor. A Master’s degree, 4+ years of experience and an active Colorado license are required. Experienced Social Worker (LCSW preferred) needed to support Palliative Care and Hospice patients and their families. Relevant home health, palliative, and counseling experience preferred. Must be able to provide home visits to patients in the mountain communities west of Denver, including both the I-70 and 285 corridors, and be available for a 24 to 32 hour weekly schedule. Home health, hospice and geriatric experience preferred for all clinical positions. Our service area encompasses the mountain communities within Jefferson, Clear Creek, Gilpin and Park counties (along both the I-70 and 285 corridors).
