Ranch ranked as top place to live in state Publication recognizes community twice in 2018 BY ALEX DEWIND ADEWIND@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM
Low unemployment rate. Job growth. A median household income of $114,652. Good schools. More than 2,000 acres of undeveloped land. These are some of the reasons why Highlands Ranch has made Money magazine’s Best Places to Live list five times in the past decade. In 2018, the magazine recognized the unincorporated community twice. In October, Money named Highlands Ranch the No. 8 best place to live in America. In December, it was named the best place to live in Colorado. When determining the best places to live, Money looks at quality of life features, such as scenery and activities, but more so the affordability, safety, convenience and economy of a city. Only locations with 50,000 people or more are considered for the ranking. The number of jobs in Highlands Ranch grew 22 percent between 2010 and 2017, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports, and in 2017, the area’s unemployment rate was just 2.6 percent, one of the lowest among all of the communities that Money considered in 2018, according to the list published online Dec. 17. Money highlighted that employment is projected to grow an additional 7 percent by 2022. UCHealth Highlands Ranch Hospital is on track to open in the Central Park development in March 2019 and is expected to bring 400 permanent jobs to the community.
