he 143rd commencement ceremony of Golden High School was May 20 at the North Area Athletic Complex. “I guarantee we will be powerful,” said Dylan Johnson in his valedictorian address. “We can create the path we desire.” And one of the best things about graduation is reminiscing with classmates — many of whom grew up together, said graduate Eduardo Manrique. Hopefully, he added, everybody can keep in touch with each other. “Graduation is the end of chapter one,” said Jose Valladares-Palma, the student body president, in his address, “but the beginning of another.”

honored last week as the 2016 awardees of the Golden Landmarks Association’s Living Landmark awards. The May 20 event marked the 15th year of the Landmarks association’s annual awards dinner and recognized Jerry Hodgden, Ed Dorsey and The Golden Transcript. The Golden Landmarks Association is a nonprofit, with the stated goal of “preserving Golden’s history and historic

Police continue to search for the fourth suspect in a home invasion in Golden, during which a middle school teacher was severely injured. Caleb Williams, 21, and Julia Katharine Johnson, 19, are in custody and Jones have been charged in connection with the May 16 home invasion. A 17-year-old male, who has not yet been charged as an adult, was taken into custody, and is being held at a juvenile detention center. Police say there is one suspect still at large: Cody Aaron Jones, 20, who also has an active nationwide warrant for an unrelated crime, Golden police Capt. Joe Harvey said. Jones is on probation for second-degree burglary charges, obstructing a peace officer and theft. “We are actively engaged in locating him,” Harvey said. On the evening of May 16, Jesse Swift, an engineering teacher at Bell Middle School, was stabbed repeatedly as he fought off the intruders in his Golden home, where his two young children
