THE SEASON FOR SHARING

2020 was a year of major changes that impacted humanity emotionally and financially BY BELEN WARD BWARD@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM

January: Drilling coming to Fort Lupton

Twelve oil and gas wells are on target to go up in Fort Lupton south of Weld County 18 and just east of Weld County Road 25 and will bring more jobs. Petro Operating Co. got approval from the City Council to start pulling drilling permits. There were concerns by Mayor Zo Stieber and Councilman Tommy Holton about the wear and tear of the roads that are already heavily traveled. Holton said he was concerned about the heavy rigs. Stieber asked if Public Works Director Roy Vestal could examine the roads in advance and to take pictures so Petro can meet the conditions.

Colorado Air and Spaceport Director Dave Ruppel and the Weld County Commissioners traveled to Nagoya, Japan, to sign the letter of intent, and to meet the PD Aerospace Staff in Hekinan City, which is just outside of Nagoya, Japan. ment epidemiologists switched gears from monitoring the inflow of flu common colds and many types of bacteria to investigating Covid-19 the past three weeks. The department has three epidemiologists working seven days a week. One of them is a retired doctor who is volunteering 24/7 to conduct investigations to help fight the spread of Covid-19, according to Weld County Health Department officials.

February: Fort Lupton Finest

The Fort Lupton City Council recognized five officers in February for actions in protecting a family during a dangerous incident Dec. 2. Sgt. Christopher Pelton, who was shot in the face, received the Purple Heart, Officer Jeremy Sagner received the Medal of Valor, and Officers Kaitlynn Walker, Guadalupe Gallegos and Shawna Paintin received the Medal of Honor. `It’s the policy of the department to recognize personnel and their exceptional performance. We expect a high level of professional conduct from our officers. At times, our officers will perform in a manner that exceeds expectations and bringing distinction to themselves,” said Fort Lupton Police Chief John Fryar. “These five officers performed in their duties with such exemplary manner.
