The Von Trotha-Firestein Farm in Greeley has been officially distinguished as an Agricultural Heritage Site by the Weld County board of commissioners Dec. 8. “This designation of the Von Trotha-Firestein Farm an Agricultural Heritage Site is a testament to its impact and legacy in Weld County. Today’s resolution extends protections for the Von Trotha-Firestein Farm against future development, which preserves its value to the agricultural landscape of the county,” said Commissioner Chair Mike Freeman. Over 109 years the farm has been in operation and was taken over by the Von Trotha-Firestein family for 93 years. The Von Trotha-Firestein farm was registered on May 12, 2009, on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of Interior as one of the most historic farms and ranches in Weld County. The Von Trotha-Firestein farm is on 49 acres with irrigated farming and livestock feed. Also, the farm helped Greeley and Weld County with invented technological and economical advances in irrigation and sugar beet cultivation. Also, the farm developed methods for recycling building materials used for other types of building. On the

our farm by designating it as an Agricultural Heritage Site,” Commissioner James said, reading an email from the Firestein’s. “Our farm has a rich history of agricultural endeavors, and it’s nice to further

honor the agricultural history with this designation,” said Ruth and Judy Firestiens.
