A joint effort by the Weld County Sheriff ’s Office and the Colorado State Patrol helped cut the number of fatal crashes on seven highways in 2020, according to a Jan. 29 release. “The progress is wonderful, it’s very exciting and a great sense of reward. I think with both agencies, we are looking forward to 2021 to see if this can be the new normal in Weld County,” said Captain Ian Whittington Colorado State Patrol. “It does give me a sense of appreciation with optimism because I know that we need the local community support to slow down and buckle up. Pay attention to the road.” Captain Whittington, said with the COVID-19 impacting nationwide last year, it is something to consider of the reduction of fatal crashes resulting in less traffic on roadways and also economic changes. “The reduction that we saw A Colorado State Trooper joins a Weld County deputy working together for a traffic stop.
