Arapahoe County Clerk and Recorder Joan Lopez vowed to review her office’s processes and procedures after drawing criticism for ballot-processing times in the Nov. 5 election. “We recognize that there has been frustration with the time it has taken to process all the ballots,” a statement attributed to Lopez, sent on Nov. 8, reads in part. “Once the 2019 election is complete, we will review our processes Lopez and procedures with all of the County’s relevant stakeholders. My staff and I are fully dedicated to conducting fair and transparent elections that ensure all Arapahoe County voices are heard, and we will continue honing and improving our operations as needed.” The statement cited “record-breaking turnout for an off-year contest,” saying the election saw 42% voter turnout and nearly 60% of ballots returned on Election Day.

There was a point before opening night for the Englewood High School Pirates football team that senior middle linebacker Yakez Daughtry knew the team was heading in the right direction. Daughtry watched as team atten-
dance spiked in summer scrimmages in preparation for the 2019 season. He credits it to the hire of the team’s head coach, Mike Campbell, who brought 15 years of experience as a head coach at Arapahoe High School to Englewood High School in 2018, and other coaches on the team. “The atmosphere with Englewood changed in terms of how (we) win and operate as a real football team together. You can tell people are taking Englewood more seriously,” said Daughtry. Since Campbell took control of Englewood High School football,
