he Halloween spirit was in the air at Belleview Park the evening of Oct. 19. Children and adults came decked out in Halloween costumes for the Belleview Park After Dark Halloween celebration. Attendees were treated to candy, Halloween activities, games, arts and crafts, face painting and more. Englewood previously hosted the event at the Englewood Recreation Center, but this time, the festival was taken outside.

The application window for the final seat on the Englewood Schools Board of Education is officially open, after not enough people filed to run for the board to spur an election. The school board passed a resolution at an Oct. 15 meeting to lay out the process it will go through to fill the final seat. Gary Manfre, who is soon to be a member of the board, was the only person who filed for one of two open seats. School board members Kevin Ebert and Sharon Scheminske are stepping away from the board to focus on other commitments. Applications for the position will be due by 3 p.m. on Nov. 11. Following that, the board will interview certain applicants on Nov. 14 and will fill the vacancy at a special Nov. 19 meeting at 6 p.m. at 3838 S. Huron St. Tena Prange, president of Englewood Schools Board of Education, said the board purposely set the deadlines the way it did so that candidates who don’t win in other city elections have an opportunity to be a board member.
