Kicking off the school year with a new building The community celebrated the new building on Aug. 9 BY JOSEPH RIOS JRIOS@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM
Cherrelyn Elementary School students, family members and community members received a tour of the new elementary school building on Aug. 9. The K-6 school comprises more than 40,000 square feet and comes with 12 classrooms and STEM, maker, gym, art, music and special-education suites. Thanks to bond money passed by Englewood voters in 2016, Englewood Schools was able to replace the old Cherrelyn Elementary building, which had been part of Englewood since 1948. “(The new building) sends a big message that the community really values the work that their students are doing and other community members are doing in this building. It’s really exciting for the kids to engage in learning in a building that can also inspire them,” said Eric Bachmann, a fifthgrade teacher at Cherrelyn. About 230 students attend Cherrelyn. The new building incorporates pieces from the old building, like bricks and locker doors. SEE BUILDING, P7
