Englewood High School athletes honor Tom Munds The boys varsity basketball team held a moment of silence before a game BY JOSEPH RIOS JRIOS@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM
Englewood High School held a moment of silence in honor of Tom Munds, a longtime Englewood Herald reporter, before the school’s boys varsity basketball game against Fort Lupton High School on Feb. 13. Funds generated from the game were donated to the Casa Unida Foundation, a nonprofit that works with people in Nicaragua to combat poverty in the country. Munds went on numerous mission trips with the organization. He passed away on Feb. 6 at the age of 82 after a battle with cancer. “He was such a prominent figure in our community. He always made a point of going to our activities and covering the school,” said Nate Smith, Englewood High School’s athletic director. “So many of the coaches knew him and respected him. It was a great opportunity to have a tribute to him and all that he’s done for the high school.”
