Flannel, family and Flat Acres Farm BY NICK PUCKETT NPUCKETT@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM

Over the past 11 years, Mike Smith has built Flat Acres Farm into a Parker institution. The 40-acre property at Dransfeldt and Twenty Mile roads has become an almost indispensable part of thousands of families in eastern Douglas County. Families from as far as Denver travel to Flat Acres Farm. A handful of families come week after week, Smith said. “This allows families to check out and have some fun with the kids,” Smith said. He motioned to the entrance of the farm. “You don’t see too many unhappy kids until they’re right there, and they got to go,” he said. SEE FARM, P11

With the 2020 election less than a week away, Elbert County Clerk and Recorder Dallas Schroeder warns against voters mailing their ballots at such a late date. There are 21,186 active voters registered in Elbert County, and Schroeder said officials anticipate a high turnout. “At this point, don’t mail in your ballot,” said Schroeder. “Any ballots received after 7 p.m. on Nov. 3 won’t be counted. The only exception is for those living overseas and military ballots that might come in after that. And remember to sign your ballot.” SEE BALLOTS, P7
