Some things to be thankful for Elbert County officials share thoughts on gratitude BY TABATHA STEWART SPECIAL TO COLORADO COMMUNITY MEDIA

The Elbert County News reached out to local officials and asked: What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving? Chris Richardson, Elbert County commissioner “I am truly thankful for the blessings of freedom we all enjoy. I am thankful for the opportunity to have given back to our great nation through over two decades of military service and the honor of serving my local community first as a school board director and now as county commissioner. I am humbled by the love and support I receive from my wonderful wife Andrea and thankful that we chose Elbert County as the place to raise our daughter.” Grant Thayer, Elbert County commissioner “I am thankful for the opportu-

nity to serve Elbert County citizens with the privilege of working with a talented professional staff and fellow elected officials. This facilitates citizen opportunity to pursue their goals for prosperity, liberty and safety while maintaining our rich rural heritage.” Megan Vasquez, Elizabeth mayor “I am thankful that I am blessed with supportive family and close friends who encourage me in life’s blessings and challenges. I am thankful to be blessed with an incredible life here in the United States of America and could not be more thankful for those serving our country and protecting our freedom each and every day. I am beyond thankful to be serving my community as mayor of Eliza-

beth and having the opportunity to work and live in our amazing town. May this season bless you all with joy and love and may we all remember life’s blessings.” TJ Steck, Elizabeth Fire Protection District chief “I am thankful for an incredible group of dedicated first responders that keep our community safe during the holidays. I am also thankful for a community that supports its local governments when they need it most.” Stephen Hasler, Elizabeth chief of police “There is just so much that I am grateful for! So much happens every minute of every day that gets lost in the craziness of our lives

that we tend to miss their importance and just dwell on the big, maybe not so important thinks that can bog us down. “Maybe you can’t afford that new car, can’t move to that bigger house you like, maybe it’s not fair that your neighbors get to go on a cruise, all these things are wonderful but should not be the focus of what makes you happy. “Be thankful for your family and friends, be thankful to be living in the best country in the world, be thankful to our military and first responders who protect us from harm, be thankful for good health, be thankful to be in a warm house when it is cold outside, be thankful to have food on the table. “I am personally grateful to have a beautiful wife, three fantastic daughters, friends to laugh and share good times with, thankful to work in a wonderful town with people who put service before self, and grateful to have the ability to recognize all those little things that happen every minute of every day that make me smile. “Have the best Thanksgiving this year.”
