Ready to get your hands dirty? Elbert County Extension’s Master Gardener program taking applications STAFF REPORT

The Elbert County Extension’s Master Gardener program is now accepting applications. The program is made up entirely of certified volunteers who aid the local Colorado State University Extension Office and provide researchbased gardening and horticulture

Master gardeners help the organization and connect with the community through leading educational seminars, writing articles, managing office hours in the growing season and participating in local community events. No previous experience or gardening skills are required. Applications are available at the Elbert County Extension Office, 95 Ute Ave., Kiowa. For information, visit cmg.extension.colostate.edu. The Master Gardener program includes 12 weeks of college-level

classes beginning in January 2020 and covering a broad range of topics including plant growth and development, soil health, plant nutrition, insects and pests, disease and diagnosis, turf management, floriculture, vegetables, wildlife and more. Once classes are complete, Master Gardener apprentices are required to spend 50 hours working in Elbert County. There is a one-time participation fee for applicants who are selected to join the program. Call 303-621-3162 for more information. The application deadline is Oct. 26.
