U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner, center, met with veterans at American Legion Post 82 in Elizabeth on June 29. “I appreciate the veterans and their families who joined me for a public discussion in Elizabeth,” Gardner said. “I’m honored to represent more than 400,000 veterans in Colorado, and I’m committed to making sure they receive the best possible care. I encourage any veteran or their family who needs help with a federal agency to contact one of my local offices – we are here to help.” COURTESY OF U.S. SEN. CORY GARDNER’S OFFICE

Elbert County homeowners who contested their property revaluation from the county assessor’s office and still disagree with the outcome have until the end of the business day on July 15 to file a petition with the County Board of Equalization. Appeals will go before a hearing officer, who will render a recommendation to the CBOE. The county mailed 13,682 revaluation notices, and according to Assessor Susan Murphy, 94 percent of the revaluations were uncontested. Revaluations were based on a collection period of 24 months from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2018. “During the month of May, in our appeals process, we talked to a fair amount of taxpayers in Elbert county,” said Murphy.
