The Elbert County Board of County Commissioners gave the green light for the Elbert County Fair to take place July 28 through Aug. 2, after hearing from the fair board president during the June 24 BOCC meeting. Many events have been postponed until next year, including any highspectator events, and several events will be livestreamed through the Show Barn Flix provider. “Myself and the executive board members have worked diligently over the last couple of months as we navigate the ever-changing world of COVID-19, and what that means for the community,” said fair board president Tammi Schneider. “All of your staff and Dwayne (Smith) at the health department have been extremely helpful, and we feel we can enable the fair to go on safely.” Anyone attending the fair will have to sign a waiver stating they assume

“I am honored and humbled that the people of the 18th Judicial District supported my vision for a more just district attorney’s office,” Padden said. “It is important that we have a true progressive to reform the office from the regressive state George Brauchler has put it in, and I am thrilled that the voters of the four counties of the 18th Judicial District decided I am the right woman for that job.”

The Elbert County Agricultural Alliance, in collaboration with Elizabeth Parks and Recreation, will hold its third annual Homestead Fair on Oct. 10 at Casey Jones Park in Elizabeth. Diane Cribley, founder of ECAA, said the alliance hopes to unveil the future site of the alliance’s Homestead Education Center at that time. ECAA has been looking for a place to build the education center since the alliance was formed nearly three years ago as a way to provide support for agriculturally based businesses in Elbert County. “We are going to be building the center at Casey Jones Park, on some of the land that the parks and rec just bought,” said Cribley. “We don’t know for sure yet what it will look like, but we know there will be gardens with native plants, maybe a permaculture food forest and livestock education area.” Many members of ECAA are small, rural and agriculturally based businesses, including animal husbandry, wellness-based production, growing for markets and agritourism. The ECAA was founded to help business owners collaborate and share resources, education and marketing efforts.
