LIGHTING THE WAY

‘Safer at home’ stage continues to involve considerations for safety BY TABATHA STEWART SPECIAL TO COLORADO COMMUNITY MEDIA

The stadium lights at Elizabeth High School are lit every Monday night at sundown, as part of the “Be the Light” campaign started by the Colorado High School Activities Association, in a show of support for their communities. The empty stadium would normally be packed with graduates and their families next month for the commencement ceremony, but this year will remain empty as students will not return to in-person learning before the end of the school year. School officials are hashing out possible ways to recognize seniors safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. PHOTO BY TABATHA STEWART

With the statewide stay-at-home being lifted earlier this week, the Elbert County Board of Health has issued its own recommendations for citizens within the county, as businesses reopen and citizens reengage in public life. Officials warn that everyday life won’t resume completely as it was before, and encourage residents to continue practicing safe social distancing, wearing masks, taking precautions for the elderly and higher-risk individuals and limiting gatherings to no more than 10 people.
