Police Blotter Crime Calls from May 31-June 6 Tuesday, June 1 — Georgetown police were patrolling in the 1500 block of Argentine Street when the officer spotted a vehicle that was listed as stolen out of another county. Police set up surveillance and arrested a male suspect, who was reportedly found with narcotics and a firearm.

Wednesday, June 2 — Idaho Springs officers responded to a motor vehicle accident. When officers arrived, the vehicle was on its roof and a man was crawling out of it.

The man was unsteady on his feet and bleeding from various places.

He also reportedly smelled of alcohol, and was transported to the hospital for medical care. He was later cited for driving under the influence and careless driving.

Wednesday, June 2 — An Empire officer conducted a traffic stop as part of an agency assist for Grand County Sheriff’s Office. Law enforcement had put out a call about a man who had reportedly robbed a bank in Fraser. A Grand County Sheriff’s deputy responding to a motor vehicle accident at the top of Berthoud Pass happened to see a car matching the suspect vehicle’s description driving over the pass,

and asked law enforcement in Clear Creek to respond. An Empire officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle near mile marker 250, and the driver complied without incident. He was taken into custody by Grand County law enforcement.

Thursday, June 3 — Idaho Springs officers noticed a vehicle reportedly driving with expired plates.

During a traffic stop, officers also discovered the driver’s license was suspended. The passenger apparently couldn’t drive the vehicle either because his license was suspended.

The driver was cited for the expired plates and driving while under suspension, and the two men waited for someone with a valid driver’s license to get them.

Friday, June 4 — Georgetown police conducted a traffic stop in the 1600 block of Argentine Street. The driver reportedly had various types of narcotics in their possession and was arrested on several charges.

Saturday, June 5 — Georgetown police conducted a search along High Street as a couple had set up a camp in the area. They were contacted and given a timeframe to leave the area. Officers will follow up on the issue at a later date.

Georgetown might revive Fourth of July fireworks

Georgetown officials and business owners are determining whether the town could host a small but official Fourth of July fireworks display.

During the June 8 Board of Selectmen meeting, Cabin Creek Brewing co-owner Craig Abrahamson said he and his fellow co-owners would be willing to donate at least $5,000 worth of commercial-grade fireworks for a town-sponsored display. They would also be willing to help town staff with preparation work and clean up, he said.

The selectmen directed staff to work with Cabin Creek Brewing and other businesses to create a fireworks plan to bring back to the June 22 selectmen meeting. However, the next day, Town Administrator Kent Brown reported that officials had run into a few obstacles during their discussions with the Clear Creek Fire Authority.

“I don’t want to be so quick to say we will have (a fireworks display) this year,” Brown stated in a June 9 email.

One reason to revive the display, Abrahamson told the selectmen, is that business owners want to retain Fourth of July visitors as late into the evening as possible. Given that Georgetown hasn’t had a fireworks display in a few years, visitors are leaving before or shortly after dinner.

Not only would reviving the townsponsored fireworks display help businesses recover after a rough year, but it would also create a fun environment for locals, Abrahamson said.

“A lot of us remember what Fourth of July looked like,” he said. “ … I feel like my kids have lost that.”

Depending on finances, Abrahamson said Cabin Creek could donate $5,000 to $10,000 of consumer-grade fireworks, which he felt would be a good middle ground between an expensive professional-grade show and no fireworks.

A display with consumer-level fireworks should still be big enough and last long enough to feel authentic, he estimated.

He said that other individuals or businesses are welcome to contrib-

ute toward the fireworks as well, but that wouldn’t impact Cabin Creek’s contribution.

“I would love to have fireworks again,” Selectman Jon Jennings said. “ … It’s been a horrible drain on the businesses to have nothing happen after dark.”

Police Judge Lynette Kelsey and the other selectmen felt likewise, but were also concerned about parking.

With the Bighorn Crossing development, Georgetown lost much of the parking it once used for lakeside fireworks displays.

However, Abrahamson felt that

locals and town staff could work together to come up with official parking plans, with Selectman Mary Smith suggesting allowing people to park on the other side of Interstate 70.

If the town doesn’t have its own display, people will probably shoot fireworks off around the lake anyway, Selectman Rich Barrows commented.

“If we don’t have something structured, then we’ll have something unstructured,” he continued.

News Briefs Rec shooting issues at St. Mary’s St. Mary’s residents have encouraged Clear Creek County to designate the community as an area where it would be illegal to discharge a firearm, as residents believe the area meets the density requirements to do so.

County staff is investigating the matter, which came up in a June 1 county commissioners meeting.

County officials said they’ve heard numerous complaints from St. Mary’s residents about recreational sport shooting on private property, which the residents believe is being done unsafely. Sheriff Rick Albers told the commissioners his deputies have been at the property in question and didn’t see anything of concern.

Regarding what legal avenues Clear Creek can take to prevent this kind of behavior, County Attorney Peter Lichtman said an area can be designated as unlawful to discharge firearms if it has at least 100 people per square mile.

According to 2010 census data, St. Mary’s density is about 196 people per square mile, however staff said the 2020 data won’t be available until the fall.

Lichtman clarified, though, that even if St. Mary’s meets the density requirement and the county assigns the designation, it cannot prevent the discharge of firearms on a private property that’s done in a safe manner and only on that property.

The St. Mary’s residents in attendance encouraged the board to consider designating the area as unlawful to discharge firearms.

“People have physical pain in their ears because this (gunfire) is deafening,” Silver Creek Road resident Beth Ramsey said. “The sound cannot be contained in that lot.”

Georgetown to fix fixtures, bridge railing at the lake The Georgetown Board of Selectmen has approved a $24,000 project to repair the warming hut bathrooms at Georgetown Lake and a $60,000 project to put in new railing on the nearby 22nd Street Bridge.

The projects were approved separately during the board’s June 8 meeting.

According to Town Administrator Kent Brown, the warming hut bathrooms haven’t been working for

several weeks as the water valves within the concrete and the fixtures themselves need to be replaced.

In the interim, the town has been using portable restrooms.

Brown said that the new fixtures will have touchless flush valves, which the selectmen and staff both felt would be more sanitary and easier for people to use.

Brown added that he didn’t have an estimate on when the Wheat Ridge-based contractor can start or how long it will take once work is underway. He said he should know by the June 22 board meeting.

In addition the town will also replace the 22nd Street Bridge’s railing. Brown said this was recommended by the Colorado Department of Transportation and the town’s insurance.

He estimated that, by the time the materials arrive in Georgetown, the project won’t get underway until the fall. The town included the project in its 2020 budget, but wasn’t able to do the project last year, he noted.

Culvert work closes Jones Pass A lower section of Jones Pass Road on the Clear Creek side will be closed through June 30 because of a culvert replacement project.

In a press release last week, Denver Water announced it will be replacing and repairing five deteriorating culverts above a large meadow at the Docker Mine. The public can still access campsites below that point, and Denver Water will try to accommodate pedestrians and cyclists along the road as conditions allow.

A full motorized and non-motorized closure will be necessary at one of the culverts due to the steep slopes, which do not accommodate foot traffic around the construction zone.

This section of the road should be reopened to all users by July.

The project is part of a long-term effort to maintain the 55 culverts along the road, and some were replaced in June 2020. Denver Water uses and maintains the road under a special use permit with the Forest Service, as it is the only route to get equipment and supplies over Jones Pass to its Williams Fork Collection System between late summer and early fall.

Legislative changes dilute hunt for bias in state tests Measure to create audit system undergoes changes, has passed Colorado Senate

A bill ordering a wide-ranging performance audit of Colorado’s school accountability system has passed the state Senate after skeptics amended the bill to focus more on narrowing persistent gaps in test scores and less on determining if the tests are biased.

The amendment was one of several changes the bill has undergone to rein in an audit some feared would be too slanted against the accountability system Colorado has used to monitor schools since 2009.

“Where this bill started was an attack on assessments, and where it is now is looking at changing our accountability system so that it’s working for our kids,” said state Sen. Jeff Bridges of Greenwood Village, who brought the amendment on the Senate floor June 3 with support from state Sen. Janet Buckner of Aurora.

House Bill 1294 orders an independent third-party review of Colorado’s school accountability system, which rates schools based on standardized test scores and allows for outside intervention in schools that don’t improve. The audit would ask whether the system meets the goals laid out by legislators, improves student outcomes, hurts certain student groups, and influences teaching practices in negative ways, among other questions. The audit would be due in November 2022.

The bill is a top priority for the Colorado Association of School Executives, which represents superintendents and other administrators.

Many of them feel the current system judges schools unfairly and doesn’t provide the type of information that actually drives improvement.

Teachers and community groups also support the bill because they worry the system currently penalizes schools serving low-income children of color and overemphasizes test scores at the cost of a rich academic experience.

But some Democrats on the Senate Education Committee feared the

original audit bill set up a foregone conclusion: that state assessments themselves are biased.

The bill rests on a fault line among Democrats who control the state Legislature. The party once championed education reform, including using standardized tests to measure the performance of districts, schools, and teachers. Now the party is divided, with some who once supported these policies questioning whether they’ve been effective.

When the bill was first heard in the House Education Committee, representatives of education advocacy groups like Democrats for Education Reform and the Colorado Children’s Campaign said they had concerns that the bill didn’t ask the right questions and would lead to faulty conclusions.

Those groups dropped their opposition after the wording of one of the questions was changed in the House.

Instead of asking the auditor to examine whether aspects of the accountability system “maintain institutional or cultural biases,” the bill now asks the auditor to consider whether “unintended barriers or obstacles” affect the performance of students from different groups.

The change shifted the focus from bias in the accountability system to the myriad challenges students face in and out of the classroom. The

change also garnered Gov. Jared Polis’ support — but not that of all Senate Democrats.

It took a week to hammer out an amendment that addresses those concerns while maintaining the support of bill sponsor state Sen. Robert Rodriguez of Denver. Most Republicans remained opposed to the bill, though they said the amendment improves it.

The House still needs to approve the Senate amendment before the bill goes to the governor.

The Senate amendment doesn’t change the questions the independent auditor would consider. Instead, it changes the legislative declaration, a statement of intent that sets the direction of the audit.

The change to the legislative declaration describes Colorado’s test score gaps. In the 2018-19 school year, the most recent for which test data is available, roughly 30% of Black and Latino students performed at grade level in literacy, compared with 45% of all students. In math, 13% of Black and Latino students performed at grade level, compared with 35% of all students.

Similar gaps exist across the nation.

Experts disagree on how much those differences are caused by the quality of education in schools serving lowincome students of color, the effects of poverty and racism outside the classroom, and bias embedded in the

tests.

The amendment goes on to note that there are schools and districts where low-income students of color buck these trends and post high test scores.

It also calls out the opportunity gaps that shape academic performance: lack of access to preschool and advanced coursework, inadequate wraparound services, less experienced teachers, and harsher discipline.

Bridges said the audit may find that the accountability system doesn’t do enough to address the most important factors in student achievement or even that the system makes things worse. The system may need to change, Bridges said, but he doesn’t want the auditor to see test score gaps and conclude that the assessments are the problem.

“We know we have a long way to go to get our kids where they need to be,” Buckner said in support of the amendment. “I admire the fact that we are able to have these conversations. They are not the easiest conversations to have because we disagree about what we should be doing for our kids, especially for our kids of color.”

Idaho Springs man hospitalized after incident with police May 30 incident under investigation and officer on leave

One Idaho Springs police officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending investigation, after a local man was hospitalized from a May 30 physical altercation between him and ISPD officers.

Neither the man nor the officer has been identified at this time. It was unclear what the man’s current condition is.

ISPD Chief Nate Buseck stated on June 9 that the Fifth Judicial District Attorney’s Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigations are conducting separate investigations looking into whether any excessive force was used during the incident.

According to Buseck, around 10:45 p.m. on May 30, ISPD officers re-

sponded to a disturbance in the 3200 block of Riverside Drive. A woman reported that a man who lived in a nearby apartment had assaulted her.

Officers contacted the suspect, who was described as a white male, who reportedly answered the door holding a club-like object that appeared to have teeth along the edges.

There was a physical altercation between the man and the officers, which resulted in the man’s hospitalization. Buseck stated that the officers were uninjured.

After the event, ISPD conducted an internal review and contacted the DA’s Office three days later to request a formal investigation.

Buseck estimated that the investigation will last another few weeks and said the department can release body-camera footage once the investigation has concluded.

Meanwhile, the ISPD has decided not to pursue charges against the man for the initial assault claim “after a thorough review of all the evidence,” according to Buseck.

Living with Wildfire: Fuel reduction around your home Wildfire has always played a prominent role in the environment of Colorado. Long before houses, towns and subdivisions were established across the landscape, fires were a natural result of the frequent summer thunderstorms and lightning that traveled across the region. However, nearly a century of fire suppression has resulted in a buildup of fuel loads, creating conditions that have the potential to create catastrophic wildfires. Within this natural fire environment there are individual homes and entire communities. Many existing homes may be unable to survive an intense wildfire. Since it is not a question of “if” wildfires will occur but “when” they will occur across the Front Range, the likelihood of human life and property loss is great and growing. Our ability to live safely in this fire environment depends on pre-fire preparation.

These are actions taken before a wildfire occurs that improve the survivability of human lives and homes. It is important to remember that there are no guarantees when wildfires meet extreme conditions and firefighting resources may be limited.

Multiple Large Fires in the Area or State Impact Resources Many people assume that when a wildfire starts, it will be quickly controlled and extinguished. This is an accurate assumption in the vast majority of fires. For most wildfires, firefighters have the resources, equipment, and technology for effective fire suppression. Some

wildfires burn so intensely and expand so rapidly that there is little firefighters can do. Even airtankers and helicopters, if available, cannot be expected to save every home in these fires. Fuel reduction around your home can reduce risks to your home and increase firefighter safety.

Your house is more likely to withstand a wildfire if grasses, brush, trees, and other natural and manmade fuels are managed to reduce a fire’s intensity. The Home Ignition Zone refers to the home itself and the immediate surrounding 30 to 200 feet. Survivable space is the modification of landscape design, fuels, and building materials around your home to make an ignition caused by wildfire unlikely, even without direct firefighter intervention. Create a survivable space around your structures by removing, reducing, relocating, and replacing fuels and vegetation to slow the spread of wildfire. Include detached garages, storage buildings, barns, and other structures in your plan. Survivable space involves developing a series of management zones in which different treatments are used.

Zone round your Home This is the area of maximum modification and treatment. It consists of an area of at least 30 feet around the structure in which flammable materials and vegetation are removed and replaced with nonflammable decking or decorative stone and well-placed fire-resistant plants and groundcover. This distance is measured from the outside edge of the home’s eaves and any

attached structures, such as decks or stairways.

• Trees here are considered part of the structure, the fewer the better, and are at least 10 feet from the structure.

• Remove “ladder fuels” from beneath trees.

• Keep plantings within 3 to 5 feet of the walls to a minimum, especially if structure sides are flammable.

Decorative gravel, flagstone or concrete decking is recommended in this area.

• Dry grass next to flammable structural components can easily ignite and carry fire that may cause a home ignition.

• Do not stack firewood or store other combustibles in this zone.

• Remove branches overhanging or touching the roof to a distance of a least 10 feet. Remove all branches within 15 feet of the chimney.

Moderate Fuel Reduction Zone The size of the zone depends on the slope of the ground where the structure is built. Typically, survivable space should extend at least 100 feet from the structure. Within this zone, the continuity and arrangement of vegetation is modified.

Remove stressed, diseased, dead or dying trees, and shrubs. Thin and prune the remaining larger trees and shrubs. Be sure to extend thinning along either side of the driveway all the way to the main access road as this will assist with safe passage for you during an evacuation and for firefighters to access your home. These actions help eliminate continuous fuel surround-

ing a structure while enhancing fire safety and the aesthetics of the property.

• Thin trees and shrubs at least 10 feet between crowns, more if on a steep slope.

• Prune under large trees to a height of 10 feet. Remove ladder fuels from under trees.

• Locate propane tanks at least 30 feet from any structures, preferably on the same elevation as the house.

Keep flammable vegetation at least 10 feet away from these tanks. Do not screen with shrubs or vegetation.

• Stack firewood and woodpiles at least 30 feet away and uphill from structure. Keep flammable vegetation at least 10 feet from woodpiles.

• Dispose of slash (limbs, branches and other woody debris) removed from your trees and shrubs by chipping or by piling and burning with an appropriate permit.

The Extended Zone is the area greater than 100 feet from the home.

Space and prune trees and vegetation to keep flames smaller, lower to the ground, and to interrupt fire’s path.

Fire is a natural part of our Colorado ecosystem. It is not a matter of if we are going to have wildfires, but when we will have wildfires and at what intensity. Homeowners must assume a major role in wildfire protection by taking action to reduce the ignitability of their homes before the threat of a wildfire.

Urgent: Slow down to control hurry sickness Do you count the cars in front of you and always move to the line that seems to go faster? Do you check out the items in grocery carts ahead of you and calculate which checkout lane will move faster? Do you chronically feel short on time and try to accomplish every task faster, only to get irritated with any kind of delay?

If so, then you – as I do – might have hurry sickness.

Yes, hurry sickness is a real thing.

However, hurry sickness, sometimes called excessive time urgency, is not disorder or a diagnosis, and it’s not an actual medical or mental health condition.

But it is a compulsion I often have trouble managing.

By definition, hurry sickness is “a behavior pattern characterized by continual rushing and anxiousness and an overwhelming, persistent sense of urgency – even when there’s no need to be moving so fast.”

ALCHEMY

I experience hurry sickness in pretty much every aspect of my life. At work, hurry sickness takes the form of multi-tasking, which is probably doing more harm than good.

Stanford University research found Andrea Doray that people who are “regularly bombarded with several streams of electronic information cannot pay attention, recall information, or switch from one job to another as well as those who complete one task at a time.” Hmmm …

I often have trouble differentiating between when the urgency is real – such as getting to the airport to catch a flight – and when it isn’t.

Even small, everyday things such as shopping, eating or (especially) driving feel like a race to me.

And sometimes, focusing on just

one thing can feel almost unbearable. In fact, I have an actual list called “things to do while doing something else.” This might look like playing solitaire on my phone while eating lunch or sorting and deleting photos while binge-watching episodes of “House.” There’s no telling what I’ll squeeze in while waiting on something in microwave!

I’ve been driven by extreme time urgency for most of my adult life …

I feel perpetually behind schedule, and there never seem to be enough hours in a day to accomplish what I need to do. Often, no matter how much I do get done, I feel as though as I’m playing catch-up.

Fortunately, there’s lots (and lots) of advice for getting hurry sickness – and its resultant anxiety — under control. I’ve selected a few here that I’m going to work on: Wake up with enough time to enjoy a cup a coffee before I start work.

I log on in the early a.m. to connect with colleagues across multiple time

zones, so allowing for time between bolting out of bed and booting up the computer sounds like a better way to start the morning.

Practice mindfulness, even if it’s just a few breaths to help me focus on what’s going on in the moment, such as navigating the interstate, participating in a conference call, or simply watering my flowers.

Embrace self-care … sleep, hydration, nutrition, relaxation and exercise. All I can say here is that I’m trying.

But perhaps the most important remedy for the pressure and angst of my hurry sickness to make sure my friendships and relationships a priority. I am most nourished when I connect with the people I love and admire, and I’ve missed you.

According to the district, while visitation has been slower than staff would like, the bumper cars have been a big hit.

Those driving them around Saturday afternoon said they were incredibly fun.

“I spun around,” Idaho Springs’ Leanna Ceresa said, “which I didn’t think I would do. ... I’m excited to have bumper cars as an option (at the rink).”

Ceresa, who skated at the rink when it was at Digger Field, said she preferred the new location. She described how it’s not as close to Interstate 70 and instead is up against a “beautiful hillside.”

She hoped that the rec district would host some bumper car afterhours events for adults.

Ceresa’s 8-year-old daughter, Skye, was also having a blast bumper-carring three sessions in a row.

“She could do this all day,” Ceresa said of Skye.

The district has a revenue-share agreement with the host company to rent the eight bumper cars, as buying them would be $6,000 each, Dhyne explained.

“Everybody loves them,” she said of the bumper cars.

While the bumper cars’ future at the Frozen Fire Rink is uncertain for now, skating will be at staple at the Shelly/Quinn Ballfields yearround.

Maintenance at Digger Field was difficult because of the direct sunlight and limited access to water.

However, the new location has a

little bit of shade in the mornings and has direct access to water, Dhyne said.

However, now the downside is that people can have a difficult time finding the rink.

Dhyne hopes that traffic at the rink will pick up now that summer is in full swing. The district will offer rink operations during Thursday evening softball games, and also hopes to starting renting out the nearby batting cage as well.

Additionally, CCMRD is hosting a June 26 family day with discounted skating tickets and a Christmas in July event on July 24. Both events will feature food from Beau Jo’s and live music, and the latter will include vendors and Santa Claus, Dhyne detailed.

Clear Creek girls finish successful soccer season Seniors, team spirit lauded during Senior Night

While the Clear Creek girls soccer team lost a hard-fought game to Flatirons Academy 1-0 on June 11, it was happy to celebrate the seniors who played their last game for the Golddiggers.

Coach Dan Ebert lauded seniors Elsie Gothman and Annie Galke, along with the rest of the team, noting that the highlight of the season for him was how well the players supported each other.

The Diggers were 5-4-1 overall and 3-1-1 in 2A Mile High West play. In Friday’s game, Flatirons didn’t score until near the 80th minute, showing both teams’ strong defense.

“I’ve been playing soccer for about seven years now,” goalkeeper Galke said. “I definitely improved a lot this year, and I got out of my comfort zone and started getting out of the goal more and saving a lot more shots.”

City looking to hire deputy city clerk With City Clerk Diane Breece set to retire after this November’s election, city officials are looking to

June 16, 2021 hire a deputy city clerk to assist the elected city clerk.

Staff directed the city attorney to write an ordinance reducing the duties of the elected clerk, and officials anticipated hosting the first reading of that ordinance at Monday’s City Council meeting.

Idaho Springs has had several ballot measures to make the city clerk an appointed position rather than an elected one, but the majority of voters have been against it.

Now, City Council members worry that whoever is elected in November will not be qualified to replace Breece, who’s held the office for more than 20 years.

During the June 7 work session, Mayor Mike Hillman described splitting the office into two positions — the elected city clerk and the hired deputy clerk.

The city has done this before with its elected treasurer position, also held by Breece, and its contracted

finance officer.

Hillman said the deputy clerk position would be advertised internally first, and wasn’t sure yet whether the deputy clerk would report to the elected clerk or the city administrator.

Councilman Bob Bowland described how the elected clerk is only answerable to the voters, while the hired deputy clerk can be held accountable by staff and City Council.

General Information All drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that the water poses a health risk. More information about contaminants and potential health effects can be obtained by calling the Environmental Protection Agency’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791) or by visiting epa.gov/groundwater-and-drinking-water.

Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the general population. Immunocompromised persons such as persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, persons who have undergone organ transplants, people with HIV-AIDS or other immune system disorders, some elderly, and infants can be particularly at risk of infections. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, or to receive a copy of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines on appropriate means to lessen the risk of infection by Cryptosporidium and microbiological contaminants call the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (1-800-426-4791).

The sources of drinking water (both tap water and bottled water) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over the surface of the land or through the ground, it dissolves naturally occurring minerals and, in some cases, radioactive material, and can pick up substances resulting from the presence of animals or from human activity. Contaminants that may be present in source water include: •Microbial contaminants: viruses and bacteria that may come from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural livestock operations, and wildlife.

•Inorganic contaminants: salts and metals, which can be naturally- occurring or result from urban storm water runoff, industrial or domestic wastewater discharges, oil and gas production, mining, or farming.

•Pesticides and herbicides: may come from a variety of sources, such as agriculture, urban storm water runoff, and residential uses.

•Radioactive contaminants: can be naturally occurring or be the result of oil and gas production and mining activities.

•Organic chemical contaminants: including synthetic and volatile organic chemicals, which are byproducts of industrial processes and petroleum production, and also may come from gas stations, urban storm water runoff, and septic systems.

In order to ensure that tap water is safe to drink, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment prescribes regulations limiting the amount of certain contaminants in water provided by public water systems. The Food and Drug Administration regulations establish limits for contaminants in bottled water that must provide the same protection for public health.

Lead in Drinking Water If present, elevated levels of lead can cause serious health problems (especially for pregnant women and young children). It is possible that lead levels at your home may be higher than other homes in the community as a result of materials used in your home’s plumbing. If you are concerned about lead in your water, you may wish to have your water tested. When your water has been sitting for several hours, you can minimize the potential for lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. Additional information on lead in drinking water, testing methods, and steps you can take to minimize exposure is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791) or at epa.gov/safewater/lead.

Source Water Assessment and Protection (SWAP) The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment may have provided us with a Source Water Assessment Report for our water supply.

Duties include basic repairs and landscape upkeep in an exceptionally friendly, professional and efficient manner.

(4) days per week; 6-8-hour days required from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. preferred, Wednesday through Saturday.

Starting wage is $16 per hour, depending on level of experience.
