Littleton business rallies support for family displaced by Marshall Fire Auto repair shop’s January fundraiser brings in thousands BY ROBERT TANN RTANN@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM
Keller Bros. Auto Repair in Littleton has a history of community support. At the store, Wednesday is known as “Help Day” and for the past eight years its owners have donated $5 for every oil change the store sees that day to go to local charities and nonprofits. When its owners heard that the head of one of their longest-supported nonprofits lost her home in the Marshall Fire, they rallied to make Help Day a campaign to raise funds for her and her parents, who also lost their home. “It was just devastating. We love those people,” said Terry Keller, founder and CEO of Keller Bros. “Our hearts go out to them.” Throughout the month, for every oil change the store saw on Wednesdays and Thursdays it donated $5 to Elizabeth Kupfner, who runs the Denver Dachshund Rescue and Transport. Keller said the store has a long relationship with Kupfner’s nonprofit, which they have supported with donations even before beginning the Help Day campaign. Since the beginning of January, Keller has seen an influx of customers on Wednesdays and Thursdays who have helped him raise thousands of dollars for Kupfner and her family. “Our customers are just awesome to help whenever they can,” Keller said. The District Attorney’s Office for the 18th Judicial District will be hosting an in-person event on Feb. 12 in Aurora for people with active lowlevel warrants to resolve their cases or set new court dates The event will take place at 14980 E. Alameda Drive, Aurora, 80012 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Anyone with an active warrant or warrant for probation violation in the county for Class 5 or Class 6 felony, Class 4 drug felony, misdemeanor or traffic offense will be able to seek help at the event. The event, the first of its kind for the county, arose out of a need to address the backlog of cases due to COVID, according to Senior Chief Deputy District Attorney Vicki Klingensmith. “We realized we needed to have some kind of forum for people to address low-level warrants,” Klingensmith said. “We heard from the courts about the number of outstanding warrants … and we heard it from the public defenders.” The DA’s office has made it clear that there will be no arrests made for SEE WARRANTS, P20
