It’s always better to analogize funding a trust with a bank account. When we open a bank account, we typically deposit money into that account. If not, the account is virtually of no use to us. That is what we are doing with a Trust. The biggest thing to remember, is the why we’re funding. Often times Estate Planning Attorney’s recommend Trust planning for two main reasons: probate avoidance and privacy. While the concept works in theory, the only way to achieve those goals is to actually “fund” the trust. So how do we do it? The answer to that question is going to depend on what type of asset is being funded to our Trust. These assets may take many different shapes and forms. They can include property, cash accounts, stock accounts, investment accounts, businesses or business interest, vehicles, boats, houses, rental properties, etc. There are two ways to move money and property into a trust: (1) by transferring ownership of the accounts and property from you as an individual to the trust, and (2) by completing beneficiary designations which will then name the trust as the beneficiary on other types of property such as life insurance, investment, and certain types of annuities. Beware, there are some types of assets that do not work well in a Trust (tax reasons) such as IRA’s and certain types of retirement accounts, so it is important to address assets individually.

In January 2021 we learned a 250-acre downhill bike park accessed by a chair lift was being planned west of Conifer in a scenic, pristine wetland meadow at Shadow Mountain Drive and Warhawk Drive. Almost two thousand of our neighbors living within close proximity to the property have signed our petition to oppose this bad idea. Thousands more concerned citizens have also signed; however the project developers continue to persist. Our opposition is research driven and evidence based. The developers maintain that: • The facility will not conflict with the delicate ecosystem and wildlife habitat that currently exists. This statement is NOT true - Studies by local experts recommend against this project because it will devastate wildlife habitat in the entire region. • If the project is denied, high density housing or sewage treatment facilities will be built on the property.
