Metro District votes to join lawsuit against state

e Highlands Ranch Metro District Board of Directors has followed suit with Douglas County in a vote to join a lawsuit against the State of Colorado to overturn Senate Bill 23-303, which Gov. Jared Polis signed into law in May.

e law creates Proposition HH, which will be on the ballot in November. It is touted as a property tax relief meant to o set historically high property tax increases. But, in voting to join the legal ght, the metro district contends the proposition’s language is confusing and violates Colorado’s constitution.
“ is complicated proposition includes multiple subjects and di cultto-understand concepts,” said Metro District Board Chair Renee Anderson. “It’s just plain wrong to put this forward to voters. Local governments rely on property taxes to provide critical services and should have been consulted in e orts to provide a solution to bring relief to citizens.”
Commissioners from 11 counties, including Douglas, El Paso and Mesa, have also joined the lawsuit. e Douglas County commission voted to join the suit on May 23.
