With the help of the Fort Lupton community and Weld Re-8 School District sponsors, there is more than $8,000 for school supplies, thanks to the annual Sips and Spaghetti Dinner. The community participated in a raffl e, music, sip wine, beer and ate spaghetti.

“We’re so thankful for all the people that helped with the spaghetti dinner. It’s going to be so nice for our kids receiving all of the gifts,” said Alan Kaylor, Weld Re-8 superintendent. “I’m excited, I think with the pandemic, it’s been diffi cult this year for parents to afford some of these supplies, so it comes at a great time.”

Some of the sponsors that stepped up to the plate included Collison Brewing Co., Wholly Stromboli, the city of Fort Lupton, Greco and Sons, Villano Brothers Farm and Republic National Distributing Co.

“Our citizens have always been so generous, especially when the chips are down. They fl ip them over and make it hit. I’m so grateful to my citizens for helping support the community and supporting the schools. Ultimately, our kids are our future, and why not make them the best they can be?” said Mayor Zo Stieber.

All of the money went directly towards purchasing school supplies for the students this year. The staff purchased art supplies, sports equipment, musical instruments, backpacks, paper, canyons, pencils and rulers. Laptops were purchased for graduating seniors who are going off to college who need a laptop.

“These funds fi lled needs that are simply not fi lled with traditional budgeting,” said Christy Romano, Fort Lupton events coordinator. “It bridges the gap between what budget affords for the supplies of each school and what they need. So that’s why the spaghetti dinner is so important.”

Jordan Chacon, an assistant principal at Twombly Elementary School, said, “It’s great to see the community come together for something so great for the kids. It’s appreciated. It’s good to see that we can get back together again to give to the school, help the teachers out and the kids.”

Terrie Asay, the Fort Lupton Police Department’s community service offi cer, helped organize the spaghetti event to raise funds.

“We did this a couple of years ago. But with COVID, we had to back off that year. It was so nice to have it again and look at these supplies. It’s great,” said Asay.

Winifred Lezine, the principal at Fort Lupton Middle School said,” We are thrilled to death to get the supplies, and it was a wonderful event. I was there at the spaghetti dinner, and it was fantastic to see it all come around to get the supplies to help our kids. It also helps our teachers and we’re very appreciative for everything,”

Melissa Rickman, owner of Wholly Stromboli, has been a sponsor every year.

“It’s what I love about this community. We’re a small community with a big heart. We always dig deep, and we purchased instruments and computers- my heart’s happy,” she said.
