Douglas County Commissioner Lora Thomas will run to represent the Highlands Ranch area at Colorado’s Capitol in 2024. The move potentially pits the Republican against Rep. Bob Marshall, first Democrat to represent the area in at least a decade. Thomas formalized her candidacy for Colorado House District 43 on Jan. 7 in filings with the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office. Thomas told Colorado Community Media that her resume boasts a “lifetime of service to my state and my community.” “I’m running for HD43 because the people of Highlands Ranch have made it clear that when it comes to the issues that matter most to them — public safety, the continuous rise in the basic cost of living, determining the quality of their children’s education, and keeping taxes, especially property taxes, low — Bob Marshall and the Democrats are failing them on all fronts,” Thomas said.
