Laydon gives ‘Harvard for a Nickel’ talk
INSIDE THIS ISSUE
BY ELLIS ARNOLD EARNOLD@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM
One of the county’s elected leaders told a small crowd about the concept of “getting to the balcony of your life” — the idea of thinking about who you are and how other people perceive you in order to get the correct view. “It’s very easy to get stuck in your own head and your role,” said Abe Laydon, chairman of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners. He asked Dan Dertz, a longtime Douglas County staff member, about who he really is. “Well, he’s really good looking, first of all,” Dertz said, to laughs from the crowd. Laydon asked him: What might others see in you that you don’t? “I think I don’t give myself enough credit sometimes. I think there’s some affirmations that I see in others that I don’t see in myself,” Dertz said. SEE CONFERENCE, P2
