Drivers are encouraged to park in the lots south of fields and west of 108th Avenue, in the Recreation Center lot and in the lots near 112th Avenue and Madison Street.

Westminster’s City Park celebration

Westminster’s City Park celebration officially begins at 4 p.m. with the opening of the kids activity zone, food vendors and the beer garden. The celebration culminates in the 9:15 p.m. fireworks display.

There is limited parking at the park complex, so the city recommends using shuttles to get to the event. Shuttles will run every 15 to 20 minutes from several places: Westminster Commons on 76th Avenue and Hooker Street; the MAC, 3295 W. 72nd Ave.; Westminster City Hall at 4800 W. 92nd Ave.; Water World at 90th Avenue and Pecos Street; Shaw Heights Elementary, 8780 Circle Drive.; Rocky Mountain Elementary, 99th Avenue and Lowell Boulevard; Front Range Community College west parking lot on 112th Avenue; and the West View Recreation Center, 10747 W, 108th Ave.

Staying home

Remember that exploding fireworks and firecrackers, as well as bottle rockets and anything else that flies or breaks apart, are banned by state law.

All varieties of fireworks, including sparklers, fountains and ground spinners and smoke bombs, are banned in Northglenn and Thornton as well.

Westminster allows those more tame varieties, but only during the Independence Day celebrations. They are allowed from noon July 3 to noon July 5 — unless a state ban, due to especially dry conditions, is in place.

Similarly, sparklers, fountains and their ilk are allowed to be used in the unincorporated parts of Adams County, per state restrictions.

QUESTIONS

In the 7th Congressional District, Republican candidate Laurel Imer posted a video last week questioning primary opponent Erik Aadland’s relationship with a nonprofit and super PAC that are spending to support Aadland. All of super PAC For Colorado’s Future spending on mailers and texts supporting Aadland and opposing the third candidate in the contest, economist Tim Reichert, is going to Telephone Town Hall Meeting, a Golden company with the same address as the super PAC. For Colorado’s Future won’t report its donors until mid-July, after the primary is settled.

Telephone Townhall Meeting was the Aadland campaign’s top vendor between April 1 and June 8, earning $16,000 for printing, texting and meetings.
