Seniors4Wellness, service organizations provide a traditional Thanksgiving meal

Area seniors were treated to a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with turkey, mashed potatoes and all of the trimmings.

The festive lunch on Nov. 17 was

provided by Seniors4Wellness with the help of a host of volunteers from area service organizations. The seniors gathered in the parish hall at Christ the King Catholic Church in Evergreen to enjoy a meal, entertainment and camaraderie.

Christ the King’s Knights of Columbus made the luncheon logistics look easy, doing the cooking and plating, while volunteers did the serving. Chef Rich Davis oversaw all aspects of the lunch, making sure the plates were appetizing.

Evergreen Rotary started the Thanksgiving luncheon for seniors

nine years ago, and Seniors4Wellness took over the event two years ago after a pandemic hiatus. Seniors4Wellness is a nonprofit started by Evergreen resident Vince Ventimiglia, and the organization began offering programs for seniors after the Seniors’ Resource Center in Evergreen closed.

Volunteers came from Mountain Foothills Rotary, Evergreen Rotary, Knights of Columbus, Blue Spruce Kiwanis, Salvation Army and Church of the Hills, while Holly Berry donated the table centerpieces. The luncheon served 147 area seniors and 42 volunteers.

Lena Humphrey, a seventh grader at Montessori School of Evergreen, took time out of school to volunteer at the luncheon. She was the youngest volunteer at the event, saying she enjoyed helping seniors and volunteering in the community.

The Rev. Richard Aylor, pastor at Church of the Hills, said the blessing before lunch was served.

“In this season of Thanksgiving, we give You thanks for this community, this gift of friends and family, and for our seniors,” Aylor said. “It is so special that we can come together to share a meal.”

Festival of Trees joins community together to support Conifer chamber, Conifer Area Council

The annual Festival of Trees transformed The Barn at Evergreen Memorial Park into a winter wonderland scene.

There was something for everyone at this year’s event Nov. 17-18, which was back after a three-year hiatus because of the pandemic. Attendees checked out expertly decorated trees, wreaths and centerpieces, participated in a silent auction and kids activities, visited with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and more. The event culminated in an evening gala.

The Conifer Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Festival of Trees, and this year proceeds from the silent auction went to the Conifer Area Council. Shirley Johnson, president of the Conifer Area Council, and Katie Rothman set up the items in anticipation of bidders.

Rothman was happy the silent auction items had something for all ages, and Johnson said the silent auction’s proceeds would allow the Conifer Area Council to do even more good for the community.

Kristin Judy, the Conifer chamber board president, said she wasn’t sure exactly when the Festival of Trees started, but it began as a winetasting event and morphed into the Festival of Trees.

Hours before the public would fill the barn, Santa’s elves aka volunteers were hard at work decorating the live Christmas trees sponsored by area businesses, decorating the barn, setting up tables and making sure everything was perfect. Holiday music filled the air as they worked.

Businesses and leaders shine at annual Evergreen chamber gala

The Evergreen Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual gala allowed business leaders to shine for their dedication to providing great service to the community.

Five businesses and leaders were honored for their stellar work at Sparkle & Shine on Nov. 11. The event is also a chance for camaraderie and networking for the business community.

The winners of Business of the Year, New Business of the Year, Young Professional of the Year, Nonprofit of the Year and the People’s Choice award were selected by a public voting process, according to Nancy Judge, president of the Evergreen chamber. The People’s Choice category also has a giving-back-tothe-community component.

Caldwell Insurance Agency and 1st Colorado Roofing were title sponsors for the event held at Hiwan Golf Club.

Year award. Vanessa Walker, manager of Evergreen Discount Liquors, said longtime local owner Greg Thomas and the staff at the store next to the Evergreen Safeway were proud to receive the award.

“Customer service is No. 1 for us,” Walker said. “We take a lot of pride in the store and serving our customers.”

Fountain Barbecue was named the New Business of the Year. Owner Glen Fountain has a food truck on the east end of downtown Evergreen plus a catering business, specializing in smoked meats.

Cory Vander Veen, executive director of the Evergreen Park & Recreation District, was named the Young Professional of the Year. Vander Veen said he appreciated the award and the confidence the public has shown in the work the rec district does.

“This award really speaks to the people I work with,” he said.

Evergreen Rodeo was named the Nonprofit of the Year. Bryan McFarland, president of Evergreen Rodeo, said the organization was proud to be recognized.

“Our board, our officers, our members and our volunteers work their tails off every year to put on the best show possible,” McFarland said of the Father’s Day weekend events including the Evergreen Rodeo Parade and the PRCA rodeo shows at the fairgrounds in El Pinal.

“We are so thankful for our community,” McFarland said. “It was nice to get the recognition.”

Judge said agent Bryan Caldwall and his staff are very involved in the community.

Caldwell thanked the community, partners, insureds and his office team for the agency’s success.

“It feels great to be recognized as the People’s Choice,” Caldwell said.

and golds, which are The Venue’s signature colors. Callison said she loved decorating her own home for Christmas, picking a different theme with different colors this year.

When she heard the Festival of Trees was back this year, she volunteered to help.

Josie Adele, a local designer, volunteered to decorate the Blue Spruce Chocolates tree, calling it “A Piece for Peace” and using some of the chocolatier’s chocolate bars plus ornaments with words of peace in

different languages.

Adele said she volunteered to design the Blue Spruce Chocolates tree, saying she loved the shop in Kittredge. She highlighted six countries at war and six countries that are the most peaceful, adding, “I want to spread peace to countries that need it.”

Beth Schneider, the Conifer chamber’s executive director, said a lot of amazing volunteers make the festival happen each year, and the festival puts attendees into the holiday spirit.

“People like the magic of this event — the lights, the trees,” Schneider said. “It’s a beautiful way to kick off the holiday season.”

Revolutionary War plaque for Buchanan Park

A plaque commemorating the Revolutionary War will be installed at the Veterans Commemorative Walk in Buchanan Park.

The Evergreen Park & Recreation District board approved a 24-inch by 24-inch plaque commemorating the war in honor of the United States’ 250th birthday in 2026. The Daughters of the American Revolution is spearheading a movement to have plaques installed throughout the country as part of its America250 effort, and the foothills DAR chapter wants to place one here.

The plaque states: “Revolutionary War Patriot: This marker commemorates the men and women who achieved American independence.

These patriots, believing in the noble cause of liberty, fought valiantly to found a new nation. 1775-1783.”

The foothills DAR chapter, called the Mountain Rendezvous Chapter, will pay for the plaque, and American Legion Post 2001 will install it.

The post also maintains the commemorative walk, which was built in 2005 with private and business donations.

Rec district board member Mary McGhee, who brought the plaque request to the board several months ago, said at the Nov. 14 meeting that the Veterans Commemorative Walk has joined together locals with a shared experience, and it’s moving to see the community pay tribute to veterans.

Board member Don Rosenthal was concerned that the America250 plaque would be considerably larger than other plaques at the memorial.

Several representatives from the foothills DAR, American Legion and service organizations spoke at the meeting, asking that the request be approved.

Don Trickle, past commander of American Legion Post 2001, said while the America250 plaque would be bigger than the plaques commemorating other wars, it should be bigger because the country was formed thanks to the patriots who fought in the Revolutionary War. “It’s something the national DAR has designed,” Trickle said. “It’s appropriate and we support it. The

Mindy Trinkle, a teacher at The Bergens, said the Veterans Commemorative Walk was part of the school’s curriculum, teaching students about Americanism and patriotism. Classes go to the memorial, and she supported the America250 plaque.

Marianne Temple, past president of the Rotary Club of Evergreen, said the club strongly supported the marker and placing it in Buchanan Park.

“As Rotarians, we believe it’s our duty to support projects like these because they provide a huge benefit for the community,” Temple said. “It promotes civic pride and honors our first American patriots.”

Pickleball Club asks for larger space for courts in Marshdale Park

The Evergreen Pickleball Club has asked the Evergreen Park & Recreation District to consider putting eight pickleball courts on a larger pad at Marshdale Park, so it can host

tournaments in addition to daily play.

Currently, the park has four courts dedicated to pickleball and four tennis courts with pickleball court lines overlaid on them. Earlier this month, voters approved a property-tax extension for the rec district, and additional pickleball courts was one of the items to be funded by the extra money.

Club President Bob Taber said the rec district’s strategic plan called the courts a public/private partnership, and the club’s goal was to contribute $100,000 to the project.

“We would like (the courts) to be really good if not state-of-the-art, so we can hold regional tournaments,” Taber told the rec district board on Nov. 14. “We prefer an eight-court facility with passageways down the center, and each court having its own entrance and exit.”

Taber said the club has 300 members, with between 700 and 800 players in the mountain community. He estimated that 40 to 60 people play pickleball daily, and members shovel the Marshdale courts when necessary.

VOICES Two departing Jeffco School Board members serve as models of public service

s Jeffco Public Schools says goodbye to two dedicated public servants, I want to take a moment to reflect on the profound and positive impact that local leaders can have on generations of students.

Stephanie Schooley of District 3 and Susan Miller of District 4 just completed their terms as elected members of the Jeffco Public Schools Board. They exit the Board having volunteered thousands of hours of their time in service to Jeffco kids.

While attention is often focused on the highest-profile public offices, it’s often leaders who are closest to their communities who leave the most tangible and lasting legacies.

In this era of widening political divisions, Stephanie and Susan consistently acted in the best interests of Jeffco kids. They chose to work productively with their Board colleagues, casting politics aside and

At times, school board members can be lightning rods. But the best ones understand that having the opportunity to make a meaningful difference for a community means making hard and sometimes unpopular decisions. They were sense makers for the community during a pandemic and as our district ran out of runway to address changing demographics, resulting in the difficult but courageous decision to close schools.

As I reflect on Stephanie and Susan’s service, I think of how they each searched out – and sincerely strove to understand – all perspectives across this geographically and economically diverse district. Both demonstrated a commitment to

Stephanie and Susan are shining examples of two community leaders who have led with purpose, integrity, and an unwavering focus on students. They came to the Board as parents and community members who saw a system that could be improved. They stepped up to be part of the solution and to make a difference.

In this way, they serve as role models for all of us, including the students of Jeffco Public Schools. On behalf of Jeffco’s students and staff, I thank them both.

Arvada Center hosts ‘Cinderella’ this holiday season

he holiday season is a time filled with stories, whether they come in form of traditions long passed down or the fantastical kind we all gather round to hear for another year. For this year, the Arvada Center’s holiday show is a bit of both —Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.”

“Cinderella is a great holiday show because it’s magical and larger than life,” wrote Lily Schmoker, who plays Charlotte, one of the sisters, in the production, in an email interview.

“The beautiful set design, the transformations and the huge group numbers create a spectacular experience which is perfect for the holidays. It’s a feel-good story that families can enjoy together.”

“I think she is the total contrast of Ella, but I really fell in love with her,” Schmoker wrote. “I’m trying to play her with as much honesty as I can while keeping all her comedic moments, since she’s written, I think, to be a main source of comedic relief throughout the show.”

While the show certainly has some changes, the crucial core story is still

there and that’s the reason it has resonated with audiences for so long.

Which, as it turns out, makes it the perfect fit for the holiday season.

“I hope audiences have a beautiful holiday joy infusion,” Watters said.

“They will be entertained and get to laugh and those are important experiences to have as a family. These days it is so easy to get distracted by technology but I hope people will leave the show feeling joyful. It’s really fun to come be part of a show that is a real collaboration.”

Jack Smith

Jack Smith peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family.

He grew up in Orchard Park, New York and attended Davidson College in North Carolina. He achieved his law degree at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York in 1971. He and his wife, Diane Barry Smith, moved to Colorado that same year.

Jack became a partner at Holland & Hart in Denver where he worked for 41 years. He was a leader among bankruptcy practitioners in the Rocky Mountain region, was elected to the American College of Bankruptcy in 2003 and was honored by his peers with nomiation as a Colorado Super Lawyer in Bankruptcy.

Jack loved to travel, having visited over 100 countries on all 7 continents. Highlghts included climbing the Himalayas and trekking Machu Picchu with Diane, and summiting Kilimanjaro.

Jack was a lifelong skier, avid snowboarder, adventurous scuba diver, and guitar player.

Jack is survived by his wife Diane of 55 years, brother David Smith, daughter Amy Smith-Kirkwood and husband Charles, son Daniel and his wife Ursula and their children Leo and Martina . Jack loved spending time with his family, especially his two grandchildren.

Jack is celebrated by all for his integrity, wry sense of humor, and kindness and family loved his sense of adventure, dedication to loved ones, and his love of life. He will be greatly missed.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held December 9th at 1 pm, at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary and Cemetery, in the Chapel of Peace.

Living in the past Georgetown Community School fourth graders portray historical characters

Historical figures William Hamill, John Tomay, Sophie Galley and Isabella Bird have made an appearance in Georgetown.

Those four and more historical characters were portrayed by

Georgetown Community School fourth graders on Nov. 17, the culmination of a unit on the area’s history.

They made their presentation as part of the Devil’s Gate History Series called “A Journey to the Past: Highlighting a Local History Curriculum.”

Before the presentation, students were excited to get into their costumes, and they took a few minutes to review their speeches before teacher Lily Redfield welcomed the standing-room-only crowd of parents and friends at the Georgetown Community Center.

bella Bird, said the most fun part of the unit was creating a video of the characters, while fourth grader Aspen Harvey, who portrayed John Tomay, said she liked that night’s performance the best.

The character presentation was especially important for fourth grader Rowan Lawlor. He portrayed his great-grandfather, Roy Rizzardi, who had been a miner in the area.

Redfield explained that the unit had three goals: to teach the rich Georgetown history, to help students gain a sense of ownership of where they live and to instill in them the importance of historic preservation.

Redfield gave the audience a glimpse of the multifaceted unit that was more than a history lesson but also lessons in economics, the area’s demographics, geography, geology and civics. Students also worked on research and presentation skills.

The unit began with a timeline that took up one wall of Redfield’s classroom, on which students could correlate national events with Georgetown’s history. In Georgetown, they learned about gold discovered in 1859; silver discovered in 1874; Congress enacting the Sherman Silver Purchase Act in 1890, which was a huge boon for Georgetown; the act being repealed in 1893 and the negative impact on Georgetown’s economy; Georgetown and Silver Plume becoming a national historic district in 1966; and more.

Students turned Georgetown’s historic events into storylines, created comic strips about the history, took tours of area homes and mu-

seums, played a game called Cheat the Miners where they learned that miners rarely got rich but merchants did, and did a “creek chase” so they could see how Silver Plume and Georgetown were built with water in mind.

“The question was, ‘What does a town need to be successful,’” Redfield explained.

She explained that they toured some buildings that have been repurposed from their original uses, showing the importance of historical preservation, and students learned that because of early residents’ foresight to have a fire department, Georgetown still had most of its original buildings.

She reminded the audience that Georgetown is the only municipality in Colorado that still operates under a territorial charter, which is why it has a police-judge instead of a mayor and a Board of Selectmen rather than a town board.

The fourth graders proudly told the audience that Georgetown was named after George Griffith, who found gold in 1859; that W.E. Barton operated a hotel known for its hospitality where the Georgetown Community School building stands today; banker Charles Fish was one of the wealthiest citizens; Sarah Holden was a teacher and artist; and John Tomay donated money for a library.

Redfield said residents should be gratified that the area’s young people have an appreciation for Georgetown’s past, something that is important to the fabric of the town, adding, “This town and this area will be just fine.”

Idaho Springs Library celebrates 15 newly published authors

The culmination of 10 weeks of writing and rewriting in Meghan Phillips’ third grade class was recognized Nov. 14 with a ceremony attended by more than 60 kids, parents and community leaders.

“You need these skills and will use them every day for the rest of your life,” Idaho Springs Mayor Chuck Harmon told the eager students and crowd of proud parents.

The pride in the smile of each young author was evident as each student walked to the front of the room to show off their finished book.

“To be part of that joy for them and see

that pride within them … it’s great,” Phillips said.

The 10-week project began with each student coming up with an idea and then writing, editing and illustrating their own book, Phillips said.

Published author president of Idaho Springs Friends of the Library, Lisa Manifold, was on hand to encourage the young authors to follow their passion of writing.

“I truly believe everyone has a story to tell, and so if I can help kiddos learn they have a story to tell early on, it makes it easier as they get older,” Manifold said.

Students received a new pen as a symbol of the transition from writer to published author, library Outreach Coordinator Chris Crouse said.

Each book has been cataloged into the library system and is available for checkout to anyone with a library card.

Third grader Edward Ball’s tale of a robot who stands up to help defeat invading monsters only to be challenged by an evil queen who keeps making more and more monsters is available to check out now.

“It’s very fun to write the books and to use your imagination to do different things in your mind,” Ball said. “It’s complicated but also fun.”

To find out what happens in the end of Ball’s “Mech-Chedets” you’ll have to go to the Idaho Springs library.

“I’m just excited for him that he has something tangible that he created and

I know he worked really, really hard on it and we’re just excited for him,” Edward’s mom, Charlie, said.

“Race Cars” is unique in that it’s a bilingual book written in English and Spanish,

by Joaquin Utia Carreno. Phillips said he came up with the idea and wrote the dual language story himself.

Other titles on the shelves of the Idaho Springs library include “Ant-Man,” “Ultima Werewolves,” “Spider Man” and “The Fun Begins.”

Each story is unique, the characters, born of a child’s imagination, take life in the carefully written plots of 15 vastly different books, Phillips said.

However, they all conclude with the same words: “The End.”

round Christmastime in 1914, David Dwight Sturgeon’s son fell ill and became bedridden.

Sturgeon, an electrician who would go on to start the Sturgeon Electric Company, devised a plan to dip light bulbs in red and green

indoor Christmas lights — that designation goes to Thomas Edison, who did so in the 1800s, according to Sturgeon Electric’s Marketing Director Erin Stromberg — his innovation spread like wildfire throughout early 20th-century Denver.

“People went past the house and saw it and liked the look of it,” Jason Hansen, History Colorado’s director of interpretation and research said. “And we then as now knew

In 1945, NBC did a broadcast tribute to Denver and the Sturgeon family for having originated the tradition, according to Stromberg.

Now, Sturgeon Electric — still in business after all these years — celebrates its Christmastime roots by partnering with Colorado Children’s Hospital to hang lights on the homes of kids who are ailing during the holidays.

“This will be the sixth year in a row that Sturgeon Electric gives back to our community by putting lights on the homes of a child who is currently at Children’s Hospital,” Stromberg said. “We’re glad to be able to give back to our community and carry that tradition forward.”

This year, for History Colorado’s Zoom In exhibit — which examines the Centennial State’s history in 100 artifacts — Hansen’s research team looked

into the claim that Sturgeon invented outdoor Christmas lights to see if they could verify what many Denverites know as a piece of local mythology.

“It’s one of those stories where it may just be urban legend,” Hansen said. “And so, we went in and looked into it. I had a team of researchers that were working on that exhibition, and we dug into it trying to disprove it. And we couldn’t. It’s one of those enduring traditions, which is why we wanted to include it in the 100 objects exhibition.”

Thus, there is a strand of Christmas lights on display at the Zoom In exhibit at History Colorado’s Denver museum.

The organization also puts on an annual Christmas light tour that takes merrymakers on a bus ride throughout the city to discuss the tradition’s history and look at lighting displays today.

Macy Clem of Conifer, a graduate student at the University of Alabama, was named to the 2023 Southeastern Conference Soccer Community Service Team.

With 100 appearances in an Alabama soccer uniform, Clem served as a leader both on and off the field for the Crimson Tide.

Throughout her five years, she has volunteered with several organizations and has given back to the Tuscaloosa Community.

Clem earned her undergraduate degree in the spring of 2023, majoring in human performance and exercise science with a minor in psychology. She has competed in 100 games with UA, becoming just the second student-athlete in program history to reach the milestone.

She is an intern with the Crimson Tide Foundation as she works towards a graduate degree in sport hospitality management.

Former Clear Creek County sergeant pleads guilty

Former Clear Creek County Sheriff ’s Office Sgt. Kyle Gould pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges related to the death of Christian Glass. He was sentenced to two years of unsupervised probation on Nov. 16.

Sally Glass, Christian’s mother, said afterward that the court pro-

ceedings would not bring her son back.

“He gets to move on with his life,” Sally said. “We’re just trapped in this pain.”

Gould’s plea deal comes two weeks after former deputy Andrew Buen, who fatally shot Glass, pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder.

Glass died on the night of June 10-11, 2022, when he was stranded in his car near Silver Plume. He had called 911 for help, saying he was trapped and when officers arrived, they asked Glass to leave his car. He refused in what turned into a long standoff that ended when officers broke Glass’ car window and used a Taser on him. Buen shot Glass five times, killing him, according to an indictment.

Gould was in contact via cell phone with Buen during the en-

counter, the indictment states. Buen muted his body-worn camera audio during the cell phone conversation, and the conversation was not recorded, according to the indictment.

According to court records, Gould was not on-site at the time but authorized the entry into Glass’ vehicle, which prosecutors say directly led to his death.

The Glass family received a $19-million settlement in the wake of the outcry over their son’s death.

Since then, officials in Clear Creek County have promised change, including reforms at the Sheriff ’s Office by an interim sheriff — Matthew Harris, whose most recent job was assistant inspector general for investigation with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

In court, Sally clutched a heart-

shaped glass-like rock she said symbolized Christian’s “love and compassion” as she told the judge of the untold pain she and her husband Simon have been going through since their son’s death.

“You can stick Mr. Gould in jail, but it’s not going to bring Christian back,” Sally said.

Sally said the rock was one of the rocks Christian was bringing back from Utah when his vehicle got stuck and he called 911.

“They killed a good kid,” Sally said.

Defense motions in the Buen case are expected by Nov. 27. Judge Catherine Cheroutes wants to know if the defense will request a change of venue in the case. A hearing on any motions filed is set for Dec. 18.

Evergreen swim’s Finley Anderson speaks on upcoming season at Winter Sports Media Day

The annual Winter Sports Media Day at Ball Arena from the Colorado High School Activities Association means fan favorites like basketball, wrestling, hockey, swimming and diving and skiing are right around the corner.

Student athletes, coaches and teams from every region of Colorado Community Media were in the building on Nov. 13, and all were more than ready to get their respective seasons underway.

Perhaps the strongest living dynasty in high school sports in Colorado stays active in Evergreen swimming and diving. The Cougars have won five straight 3A state championships and don’t plan on slowing down soon.

Evergreen finished with 443 points, which is 21 more than the team posted last year. As previously reported

Want to referee basketball? There’s a class for that in Evergreen

Kids as young as 13 can become certified referees for real middle and high school games with the right training.

The course offered through Evergreen Sports Officials is taught by Clear Creek Middle and High School Coach Phil Mauro.

The idea, according to Mauro, is to get kids involved in sports by teaching the rules to referees, plus there’s a need for referees now.

“There is a high need for new officials, especially up here in the

mountain area,” Mauro said.

Mauro explained that often in games there is one referee per game when there should be two or three.

New referees would start working with younger teams, then work their way up.

At a recent basketball tournament at the middle and high school in Evergreen, 14-year-old Will Kelker and 13-year-old Frank Mauro were dressed in black and white referee uniforms with whistles dangling from their necks.

to make money and help out the kids teach them how to play basketball,” Kelker said.

Successful graduates of the course would be recognized and certified referees through the Colorado High School Activities Association, according to Mauro.

Students typically meet Thursday nights for about an hour at Evergreen High School as students learn rules, mechanics and professionalism, according to the curriculum.

The cost is $175 dollars for the sixweek course, but students in the Clear Creek School District receive a full scholarship, funded, in part, through grants from the Explorer Fund and an Innovation Grant, according to Mauro.

certified and well-trained officials,” Mauro added.

At the recent basketball game in Evergreen, the two young referees commanded respect with their calls but Kelker said it’s not always easy.

“It’s hard, I mean the parents and coaches always have their own opinion,” Kelker said. “You just have to call what you call. You can’t let other people tell you what to think.”

Fifth Judicial District Attorney Heidi McCollum has filed misdemeanor charges against six current and former law-enforcement officers involved in the shooting death of Christian Glass last year in Clear Creek County.

Former Clear Creek County Sheriff ’s Office deputy Tim Collins, Colorado Division of Gaming Enforcement Investigators Mary Harris and Christa Lloyd, Idaho Springs Police Officer Brittany Morrow and Colorado State Trooper Ryan Bennie all face one count of failure to intervene under a state law that is meant to prevent unnecessary injuries and deaths to people being investigated by police.

Georgetown Police Marshal Randy Williams was also charged. He faces two misdemeanor counts, including failure to intervene and third-degree assault for allegedly firing his taser that night.

The qualified vendor must show possession of skills necessary to maintain and improve effectiveness, enhance its quality of services, minimize down time and support costs, and ensure security and safety controls at all times.

The purpose of this Request-for-Bid is to obtain relevant information, credentials, qualifications, experience and a proposed Project Approach from interested Firms to inform the Board for selection of a consultant to inspect, design epoxy solution, apply epoxy and paint surfacing, and warranty work and materials.

SCOPE OF SERVICES Sheriff’s Office Wall Painting & Epoxy Flooring Project • Normal working hours should be performed between 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday.

• Contractor shall provide paint and epoxy material options to Sheriff’s leadership for approval.

• Contractor shall comply with product manufacturer recommendation as included with the product.

• Obtain primary resinous flooring materials including primers, resins, hardening agents, grouting coats and topcoats through one source from a single manufacturer, with not less than ten years of successful experience in manufacturing and installing principal materials as described here.

• Comply with epoxy flooring manufacturer’s written instructions for substrate temperature, ambient temperature, moisture, ventilation and other conditions affecting epoxy applications.

• Perform testing of product as recommended by the manufacturer.

• Coordinate application of components to provide optimum adhesion of resinous product to substrate, and optimum intercoat adhesion.

Cure epoxy product according to manufacturer’s written instructions.

• Treat floor drains to bridge potential cracks

and to maintain protection.

• Remove temporary covering and clean resinous flooring just prior to final inspection.

Use cleaning materials as recommended by the product manufacturer.

• A collaborative design process with Sheriff’s Office leadership to design an epoxy and paint solution which fulfills the needs of the Sheriff’s Office staff as well as the security restrictions for inmates.

• Epoxy coating shall be applied to provide sufficient coating and thickness and shall be coped/angled to allow to be applied at the base of the walls and to extend approximately 4” to the current height of existing floor.

• Contractor shall apply a heavier non-slip epoxy resin at all floor areas. These areas shall be able to be mopped and cleaned.

• Contractor shall, at all times, take any and all steps necessary for maintenance and preservation of all adjacent County property.

• Contractor shall identify which employees will be working on this project including subcontractors. Those employees shall bring photo ID to obtain a County ID badge that shall be worn alt all times while on the property. Contractor staff shall return all ID badges to designed personnel at the end of each work day.

• Contractor shall provide daily cleanup of work area and trash removal from the site.

• Provide needed ventilation equipment during application and curing processes.

• Project management: Provide complete project management support inclusive of weekly meetings, coordination, project administration, scheduling, budgeting, design review and closeout.

• Comply with all insurance requirements in accordance with Clear Creek County standards.
