Conifer may get a free-standing library as soon as late 2023. The Jefferson County Public Library board of trustees on June 16 put $2.5 million into its 2023 Capital Improvement Plan for what is named the “Conifer opportunity.” After a community-engagement effort to find out what residents want and need, library officials hope to find space “in an existing commercial building for tenant finish or a building refurbish,” according to the May 19 board meeting minutes. The Jefferson County commissioners must approve the library district’s budget. The Library Board has not heard any recommendations nor made any decisions on whether to move the library. The current 9,000-square-foot Conifer library has been housed at Conifer High School since the school opened in 1996 and is shared with high school students and staff. It is open to the public after school and
