NOW SERVING EVERGREEN, CONIFER, BAILEY AND PINE

A snowy New Year’s Eve

BY DEB HURLEY BROBST DBROBST@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM

Never say Evergreen isn’t filled with hardy souls. More than 1,000 people of all ages

braved the area’s first significant snowstorm on New Year’s Eve to participate in the fun of Skate the Lake, in its 26th year. It can aptly be described as a Hallmark-like event. The snow provided a beautiful backdrop for skating and broomball on the ice and movies in a heated tent — plus food trucks, booths by the event’s sponsors Caldwell Insurance and Kids to College Pediatric

Dear readers, Happy new year! With the new year comes a few updates to your Canyon Courier. The first one is that the newspaper will now be published on Thursdays instead of Wednesdays. Most of Colorado Community Media’s newspapers have had a Thursday publication date, so we wanted to unify the publication date to ensure that the production and delivery process goes more smoothly. This likely won’t change Kristen Fiore when you receive your newspaper, and e-editions will still be posted online Wednesdays. The second new item is that I am now the editor of this newspaper! I joined Colorado Community Media about two months ago as the new West Metro Editor, taking over the Clear Creek Courant, Canyon Courier, Golden Transcript, Arvada Press and Jeffco Transcript. I am coming to you from central Florida, where I was previously an editor at The Villages Daily Sun. I am delighted to be here. As I’ve been learning about your community and its key stories, I have been heartened by your passion, sense of togetherness and constant efforts to better your neighborhoods and ensure that different voices are included in every edition of the Canyon Courier. It is truly an honor to help share these stories, and I want to thank you for being a supporter of local news. Those with comments, questions or concerns can reach me at kfiore@coloradocommunitymedia.com.
