Sally Abbott

August 19, 1940 - March 9, 2022 Sally Nancy (Vasquez) Abbott, 81 of Brighton, Colorado, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 9th, 2022, after su ering a devastating stroke on 3/4/22. Sally was born on August 19th, 1940, to Frank Sr. and Carmen (Romero) Vasquez, in Sterling, Colorado. She was the 6th child of 8 children. e family lived in the small town of Padroni, Colorado, located just north of Sterling. She graduated from Padroni High School as the class Valedictorian in 1958. She went on to get her Associate in Arts Degree – in Education from Northeastern Junior College in Sterling Colorado in 1960. She later returned to college and received her bachelor’s degree in Education Administration from Colorado State College (now the University of Northern Colorado) in Greeley, Colorado. After graduation from NJC in 1960, she began her teaching career in Chappell, Nebraska from 1960 until 1962. After Graduation from CSC in 1964, she was hired as a Bilingual and Elementary Educator to the children of US employees of Oil Company workers in Venezuela. For six years she taught Elementary education to all her students as well as Spanish to the English-speaking students, and English to the Spanish-speaking students. She often spoke of what a wonderful experience living and working in Venezuela was for her, and she maintained relationships with a handful of co-workers from her time in Venezuela, nearly up until the time of her death. She was hired by School District 27-J of Brighton, Colorado in 1970 as a Bilingual Educator and was also put in charge of the Summer Migrant Education program. She was promoted to Director of Bilingual/ Bicultural Education for the school district in 1975, a position she held until her retirement in 1983. She returned to education in 1986 as a substitute teacher for Kindergarten, First and Second grades for School District 27-J. She formally retired from education in 1996. She met Gean Abbott Sr. while they both worked for School District 27-J and they were married on December 23rd, 1973, in Denver, Colorado. ere was a Blizzard that day and many of the wedding party spent their wedding night with Sally and Gean at their home in Brighton. ey were joyously married for 37 years until Gean’s death in 2010. During their marriage they spent many memorable times playing Golf, Cards, and enjoying good meals and parties with many family and wonderful friends. ey also traveled extensively throughout the United States (Seattle/San Juan Islands, New England, Maine, Minnesota, Florida, Hawaii, etc.) as well as internationally to places like Mexico, St. Maarten, and a wonderful cruise to Estonia. ey owned a Condo in Fountain Hills Arizona and went there at least once a year, and after their grandsons were old enough, they took them every year and had many joyous times and stories from these travels. She was a member of the Women’s Golf at Riverdale Golf Club, Silver Sneakers of Brighton, U&I Club, and several Bridge Card Clubs. She had two grandsons (Nathan and Allen Abbott) who from the time they were born were the light of her life, and a better “Doting” Grandmother you would never nd. She was blessed with two twin Great Grandchildren in April 2021 (Elaina and Elijah Abbott) whose visits she treasured and of whom would speak of to anyone who would listen. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters (and brothers-in-law), Elizabeth Vasquez, Edna and Adolph Padilla, Ruby and John Mora, Brother Frank Vasquez Jr, Nephew Robert Vasquez and Niece Beverley (Vasquez) Jakle. She is survived by Son - Gean Jr. (Donna) Abbott, Grandsons – Nathan (Giao) Abbott, Allen (Krystal) Abbott, Great Grandchildren Elaina & Elijah Abbott, Sister - Vivian Perales, Brother - Ray Vasquez, Nieces - Joyce Lansing, Joanne (Rudy) Trujillo, Patricia Padilla, Monica Mora, Marilyn Mora, Nephews Richard “Butch” (Susan) Vasquez, Martin Jakle, and numerous Great Nieces and Nephews. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, 6 pm, Tabor Funeral Home, Brighton, CO with Mass of Christian Burial on ursday, March 17, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Augustine Catholic Church, in Brighton. Sally will be buried on Friday, March 18, 2022, 9:00 a.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery, in Denver, CO. Jerry Lee “Lee Lee” Hernandez

July 20, 1954 – February 9, 2022 In loving memory of Jerry Lee Hernandez, who passed away February 9, 2022 at the age of 67. Jerry was born on July 20, 1954 and was raised in Fort Lupton by his mother, Nellie Hernandez and grandparents, Louis and Fermina Hernandez. He attended Fort Lupton High where he later became a custodian for many years. It was also in Fort Lupton where he was involved in the Chicano movement. He then moved to Denver in 1980 where he met his wife, Maria Perez, and her ve children. For over the 40 years living in Denver, he worked as a custodian for IBM and the University Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Maria Perez, and her six children; Nancy Martinez, Joe, omas, Andrew, Chris and Mario Perez. He also left behind six grandkids. Jerry is also survived by one sister, Mary Anne Minjares, and her ve children; Louis, Fermina, Marie Hernandez, Farrah and Greg Minjares, along with 17 great nieces and nephews. He had two brothers, Anthony and Louis Hernandez, who also preceded in death. Also, an aunt Mercedes Hernandez, followed by numerous cousins. Jerry attended the Hernandez family reunion in September 2019 and often spoke of the memorable moments of that day. He will always be remembered for his passion for motorcycles. He loved making his special pancakes on big breakfast Sundays. Jerry loved listening to oldies and especially loved his Bob Marley. He was a happy soul and always enjoyed talking to people. Jerry was grateful and thankful for what others did for him, but most of all he had a smile that will never be forgotten. He will truly be missed and in our hearts forever. We love you, Jerry. Mass was held at the St. William Church on March 10, 2022.

Beverlee Beth “Beverley” (Nelson) Rudy

July 1, 1927 - March 8, 2022 Beverley Rudy, 94, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2022, in her home in Fort Lupton. She was born in Longmont, Colorado on July 1, 1927, to the late Herbert and Ruth Nelson. She was the 5th of 6 children. Beverley graduated from Fort Lupton High School in 1945 and enjoyed being a part of the Fort Lupton Community her entire life. After graduation, she worked at the soda fountain in the Lewis Drug Store in Fort Lupton. On January 8, 1948, she married Daniel Rudy and they had 3 children: Gary, Larry and Mariann. She enjoyed being a wife and mother and she loved to sew. Some of her most cherished time was spent with her family. Monthly dinners with the extended family were a must and when it was her turn to host, she made the most delicious fried chicken. Her boisterous laugh was contagious, and she was always the life of the party. Beverley was always a hard worker and a dedicated employee and proudly worked for the Brighton Blade for over 10 years and for John Dent Law O ce for over 20 years. After retirement, she enjoyed hours in her yard working with her roses. She loved and valued family time most and was always grateful for any act of kindness no matter how small. Beverley was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Lupton. She enjoyed numerous activities for seniors at the Fort Lupton Recreation Center and cheered on the Denver Broncos every game they played. Beverley was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Rudy, son Gary Rudy, mother and father, Herbert and Ruth Nelson, sisters Rubyanna (Willis) Bell, Maxine (Ralph) Brenning, Donald (Goldie) Nelson and Virginia (John) Kalcevic. She is survived by her sister Patricia Terry; son Larry (Gilda) Rudy, daughter Mariann (Gary) Johnston; grandchildren Daniel (Heather) Rudy, Scott Rudy, Shawn (Alyssa) Johnston and Sandra (Mark) Saar; greatgrandchildren Gavin and Liam Rudy, Sydney Forbes, Scott Rudy, Ketcher, Kolton and Kamdin Johnston, Naomee, Carolynn and Dustin Saar; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to her as Aunt Bessie. Memorial Service will be on ursday, March 17, 2022, beginning at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church, 306 Park Avenue, Fort Lupton, Colorado.
