27J Schools in Brighton aren’t exempt from the recent nationwide supply and worker shortage issues. “Over the last couple of months, we have had challenges with food service supplies and staffing,” said district spokeswoman Janelle Asmus. “We’ve been very short-staffed

with unfilled positions, such as kitchen managers, assistant kitchen managers and nutrition services workers.” There have been supply chain delays and breakdowns, too, Asmus said. “This has resulted in food shipments not meeting our needs as planned in order to feed our students who rely on school breakfast

and lunch for daily meals,” she said. “To cope, we have had office staff fill in at various schools. We’ve shifted existing staff to meet the most urgent needs, and we’re doing our best to attract new workers and hire qualified people to join the team.” The district’s answer to supply chain problems is research in an effort to find sources other than traditional suppliers.
