live streams. The first effort at girls soccer was due to take place April 21. Athletic director Ty Gordon said the hope is to expand the program to cover road games next year. Faculty advisor Jake Marsing wants to add in-school newscasts, as well. Before taking his teaching job at FHS (he teaches social studies), Marsing worked in sports radio in two markets, including Denver. He covered college football, the Denver Nuggets and the Denver Broncos. “I’m teaching them based on what I learned,” Marsing said. “The rest is trial and error.” Air time in all forms For now, the focus is on sports, much to the delight of four members of the class, including Zach Wartner, who also pitches on the Warriors’ baseball team.

“I joined because it was based on sports,” Wartner said. “I’ve done color commentary so far. I like to talk. I like to talk to new people. I was nervous at first, but it’s become routine now. I even did play by play of a basketball game.” Khloe Gould is not interested in being on the air. She’s more at home behind the scenes. “I’ve loved the class from the first day,” said the FHS freshman. “I’ve learned a lot .. how to set up a broadcast, how to take it down, how to set up a tripod, how to set up a stream. Fort Lupton City Council approved contracts and other financial business during its business meeting April 19. Among them was $72,000 to buy more than two tons of zinc orthophosphate for the city’s water treatment plant. The money comes from the water treatment plant repair and maintenance fund. Jon May, the public safety director and wastewater/water plant operator for the city, said the material helps knock down corrosion in the water pipes and has done so for almost 20 years without issues. “There’s only one company that meets the national safety standards,” May told council, saying that firm is ChemQuest Co. “Foreign countries say, ‘We meet them (the safety standards).’ But most people don’t use foreign companies,” May said. “We’ve used Chemquest since the start. If you approve, we won’t need to reorder until 2025.” The state ordered the city to add corrosion-control chemicals 20 years ago to meet federal lead and copper regulations for drinking water, according to staff notes. An option would have put the city in the position of asking for an engineering study to change the corrosion control methods. “We could not be successful” with this option, the staff notes said. Council’s vote was unanimous.

Clifford James Haffner

January 23, 1937 - April 20, 2022

Clifford James Haffner was born on January 23rd, 1937 in Hudson, Colorado and went to be with the lord on April 20th, 2022 in Lafayette, Colorado. He was the second of 5 kids to Fred and Dorothy Haffner and grew up in Hudson until 1942 when his father passed away. The family then moved to Chula Vista, California where his mom worked in an airplane factory during World War II. After a while they moved back to the Hudson area where Cliff attended Hudson High School where he lettered in both football and basketball until he graduated in 1955. He soon attended college in Greeley before going locomotive engineering school in Pueblo. Later in life, Cliff served in the Army and the National Guard as a cryptographer. In 1963 he married Marilyn Seargent and had three kids; Tami, Bryan, and Brad Haffner. Over the years he worked for Western Electric, Hutchison Homes, and AT&T. In the late 80’s he married Vikki Cooper and they resided in Granby, Colorado, raising cattle on the Barner Ranch. Cliff enjoyed horseback riding, farming,

His favorite reading material was the Fence Post, and if he wasn’t in the house watching old westerns he was outside fixing or breaking something. A fond memory from the family is going to grandpa’s house for Oreos and a Coke with a welcome line of “Hey kid, what do ya know?”.

Jose Calletano Padilla, J.C., was born on June 9, 1948 in Las Vegas New Mexico, and passed away on March 11, 2022. The seventh child of Pedro and Conferina Padilla, he was raised in Brighton Colorado. He is preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Conferina, his brother Joseph, sisters Mary Ann and Emma Padilla. He is survived by his son Joseph Curtis Padilla (Brittany), grandchildren Janessa, Brooke, Kaulin and Jameson, his siblings Victor Padilla (Irene), Polly Clifford, Gil Padilla, Beth Verdeal and Linda LeBallister.

Marlene Heintz was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Fred and Mollie Bauer and was a twin and had 3 other siblings. She married the love of her life Verhn Heintz on May 8, 1955.

Marlene and Verhn farmed for many years in Nebraska, and then moved to Aurora, Colorado where she worked as a bookkeeper, and a school bus driver for 27J in Brighton, Colorado. After retiring she enjoyed her time watching grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports. She rarely missed any games.

Marlene is survived by her husband Verhn, her children Verlene ( Doug ) Montgomery, Mark ( Cynde) Heintz, and Becky Brown, 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

New electric car charging station opens along northern Interstate 25 corridor

United Power officials were excited as they opened their newest ChargePoint EV station along Interstate 27 April 20. “I’m 100% excited! It’s essential because it fills this charging desert that is 30 miles between Thornton and Loveland,” said Mark A. Gabriel, United Power’s president and chief executive officer. “So, people are coming off the highway now have an opportunity to stop and charge. As we fill in infrastructure, that’s more and more important as EVs become more popular.” The EV charging station is open to charge up with a 62.5 kW direct current fast charge off the northern Interstate-25 corridor for drivers traveling between Thornton and Loveland. Its new charging station is at United Power Carbon Valley Office at 9586 W. 1-25 Frontage Road, Longmont. “This is very exciting. It’s accessible not only to people in the Carbon Valley but to travelers along the I- 25 corridor and gives them a reason to stop,” said Jenn Venerable, Carbon Valley Chamber of Commerce executive director.

I take a lot of pictures of our sports teams,” Delier said. “I run the live streams at the church I go to, so that translates to this well.” Exposure to other announcers Marisol said the class listened to audio recordings of several announcers, some of whom yell and scream and some of whom are quieter. One of the more frequent voices on those recordings is that of former Los Angeles Dodgers announcer Vin Scully. He called Hank Aaron’s 715th career home run in 1974 – the record-breaker at the time – and then let the crowd roar for more than 90 seconds without saying a word. “If you get a good call of a play, it makes a more memorable broadcastt,” Bailey said. “I called a game-winning play, and then I let the moment happen. Pickleball plans Council OK’d a proposal from Gerardo Concrete for the construction of two pickleball courts in Railroad Park. The capped cost is a bit more than $41,000, and the money comes from the culture, parks and recreation sales tax fund. Doug Cook, the aquatics supervisor for the Fort Lupton Recreation Center, said the total cost for the courts -including fencing -- totaled $55,000 and would come in under budget. Work could start as soon as mid-May.
