Hard Bean Coffee shop opened its doors on October 13, ready to serve its roasted beans and ice cream to the Fort Lupton community. “I’m not only excited about the coffee, but I’m also excited about the ice cream. I live close, too,” said Mayor Zo Stieber. “It’s great to see it finally come to fruition for Huy. I know he’s worked so hard for this,” she said. The owners are Huy and Christine Lieu Duong who also owns Dales Pharmacy which is adjoined to the coffee shop.The Dales drive-through pharmacy and coffee shop is located off State Highway 52 and Dales Place. The pharmacy was completed as of October 19, 2020, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, the coffee shop could not be opened right away. “It took a network of local builders and want to shout out to, Janell & Otis Burough, Snowy River Construction & Excavation they were the general contractors, Gabriel & Jennifer Thatcher, G.T. Electrical Solutions were the electricians and Zachary Gillham was the person who did the HVAC and Plumbing,” said Huy Duong. A year later the coffee shop opened with two large seating areas, a WIFI connection, and a charging station so when people are waiting for a prescription they can walk into the coffee shop and wait in a comfortable atmosphere to read, drink coffee, eat pastries and ice cream. It also has a drive-through window. “While they’re waiting for the prescription they can sit and relax and have a cup of coffee. We are supporting different types of customers. This is a wonderful community,” said Christine Lieu Duong. Fort Lupton Councilman Chris Ceretto said, “The ice cream was a pleasant surprise. It’s great. Huy

has done so much for the community. It’s just wonderful to have him expand.” Why coffee? Christine Lieu Duong said,” We always dreamed of providing a coffee shop for the community. It’s a great place for people to come and have a drink with friends and family.” “I love coffee and I drink it every day. We live in a world where we’re always running off doing things and sometimes it’s nice to slow down- sit and relax a little bit. We also have a drive-through for those speedy people that may want to relax and try to lay back,” she added. Huy Duong said Todd Hodges Planning Director for the Fort Lupton Economic Development contributed to the idea to add a coffee shop to the pharmacy.

“I was always meeting with Huy and teased him about a drivethrough coffee shop and you have a drive-through drug store- you can do coffee too,” said Hodges. “ They decided to move forward with it obviously and it is amazing work on what they’ve accomplished here. I’m very proud to see this.” Gabriel Thatcher owner of Fort Lupton GT electric solutions who helped with the electrical connections said “Huy came in and we asked us if we would like to help them. We were super excited to work with Huy. The more time we spend with them, the more we enjoy being around him and enjoyed the relationship with him. He’s pretty cool.” Owners Otis and Janelle Burough with Snowy River Construction and Excavation out of Keenesburg were the General Contractors.
