Crossroads First Baptist Church got its start when Union Pacific dropped off a rail car in Fort Lupton on the side of the tracks in 1921 for its first church service. “We are celebrated 100 years of God’s service working here and in the town of Fort Lupton,” said Kenneth Harnett, Crossroads Church volunteer. The community gathered at the church for prayer, celebration, food, activities for the children and dedication of the opening of the

time capsule on Aug. 15. The bright red capsule’s contents included a Fort Lupton newspaper from June 17, 1976, with the headline “First Baptist Church Raises Wall for Building.” The chapel started from a rail car named Emmanual, then moved into a basement at First Street and McKinley Avenue that was dug with shovels and draft horses pulling a slip. Work completed in 1921. The upper part of the building was completed in 1934. As the congregation grew, more space was needed. So, the church purchased property at Rollie Avenue and state Highway 52, where it sits today. SEE CHURCH, P5

Crossroads First Baptist Church opened a 100-year-old time capsule revealing a Fort Lupton newspaper from 1976, a photo of Rev. Halley Clark and his wife, previous church members that contributed to the church and 50th anniversary of church directories.
Westbound lanes of Bridge Street from 4th to 8th avenues will be closed from 6 p.m. - 6 a.m. beginning Aug. 29 for night work for the North Outfall Project. Traffic flow will be maintained in both the eastbound and westbound directions for the entirety of this portion of the work, but both directions of travel will be restricted to one lane and shifted to the eastbound lanes. The North Outfall Project started in February of 2021 and aims to construct storm drain improvements to mitigate nuisance flooding and improve the drinking water system in the area north of Bridge St. The project is estimated to be 65-percent complete at this time and is expected to be completed by December 2021. The flow and direction of traffic will be delineated by traffic control devices. The lanes will reopen and traffic shifted back to the normal alignment at 6 a.m. the following day with steel plates and asphalt patchwork in place. The westbound lanes may be bumpy at times. This process will be repeated throughout the week with work on this section of roadway set to be complete by Sept. 3. In addition, Denver Street from 6th to 7th Avenues and 7th Avenue from Denver to Brighton streets will be paved by Friday, Sept. 17. If you have questions, please contact Scott Olsen at 303-655-2136.

Adams County is tied with La Plata County for having the secondhighest number of orphan oil and gas wells in Colorado. However, new regulations will only go so far in addressing the problem. As of July, Adams County said it counted 77 orphaned sites, an unplugged facility whose owner isn’t maintaining the site. The state takes over the well when an opera-
tor leaves it orphaned. “The potential risks associated with orphaned wells are not the same for each facility; however there are several known orphaned sites in Adams County where historical impacts to environmental resources were only discovered by the COGCC (Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission) once the decommissioning operations began,” Greg Dean, the county’s oil and gas liaison, said in an email statement.

Older orphan wells pose a greater danger because they were drilled when there were few regulations, said Dean. Spills from orphan wells can pollute groundwater and soil, and methane leaks are considered hazardous air pollutants. Adams County Commissioner and board Chairperson Eva Henry said orphan wells, “show the integrity of the actual issue. It shows what they leave behind … they leave behind poison with these abandoned wells.” Industry advocates acknowledged
that orphan wells are a problem but disagreed with Henry’s portrayal. Carrie Hackenberger, associate director of the American Petroleum Institute Colorado, said in an email statement, “The number of orphan wells in the state is relatively small in comparison to Colorado’s ongoing oil and gas operations, and that success owes itself to Colorado operators’ ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of the communities in which they are engaged.”

Fire departments receive grant STAFF REPORT
There’s no place like hope.
Seven fire departments in the north Denver metro region received grant funding to purchase and install emergency access technology at commercial buildings. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is giving $1.25 million to the Thornton, Westminster, Federal Heights, and Brighton fire departments and the North Metro, Adams County, and South Adams County fire rescue districts to implement a new electronic rapid access system, according to a Thornton Fire Department news release. The departments will use the funding to purchase small metal boxes,
called the Knox Box, to install at businesses that opens doors. Firefighters remotely access the boxes in emergencies to enter the buildings. The North Area Fire Marshalls said in the news release, “Addressing fire and life safety issues is a top priority for our departments, and we are excited to be the largest regional effort to implement an Electronic Rapid Access System. This system reinforces our commitment to our community in providing professional and exceptional services for life and fire safety.” The fire departments have already started retrofitting a total of 6,400 businesses at no additional cost to the departments.

First Baptist Church merged with Crossroads Church in 2012. “They had the church in the basement for about five or six years. The upstairs part of the church started about 21 years ago. I think the church was called Calvary Baptist Church,” said Harnett. - The oldest member is native Bob Warner who lives on a ranch Northeast of Fort Lupton. “I joined the church in 1949,” said Warner. The Rev. Alex Stadler has been a member for about 10 years and started as a pastor in May 2020. “Celebrating 100 years is a great reminder for everyone, especially for myself, that I’m a part of something bigger than myself,” said Stadler, “to know this church has had such an impact on my story, especially my whole adult life, and has been formed by the people here. “It’s not even just my story, it is how many other people have been changed by this place. And now I have the honor to get to lead and care for a whole community. It’s exciting.” Rodney Knodel a youth leader at the church, said the youth members have grown to a group of 30 youths from about six. “It’s amazing celebrating 100 years and the origins starting from a rail car. We continue to grow with over 100 members. We are also proud of how inclusive we’ve been with our Fort Lupton community and our youths. We have so many loving leaders showing God’s love, “ said Knodel.

In addition to working in the cutting-edge and high-growth CBD industry, you will have the opportunity for cross training and advancement in other parts of the production process. At EVG Extracts, we specialize in CBD-infused products including tinctures, gummies, topicals, and a selection of other high demand products. This position will be responsible for mixing, processing, and packaging of CBD product while following a strict procedure to produce the highest quality product possible while maintaining a clean and safe working environment. We are looking for someone that is comfortable with a flexible work schedule. Shift rotations vary between a four- and five-day workweek and may vary from eight to ten hours per day. Job Functions • Performing production activities related to the mixing, blending, and packaging of CBD infused products including • Follow HACCP Plan and ensure quality and safety standards • Maintain a safe work environment, actively contributing to continuous improvements. • Document all manufacturing activities consistent with Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). • Maintain manufacturing and facility spaces in a clean state. • Communicate frequently and effectively with the Manufacturing Manager, Supervisor and Operator peer group. • Maintain personal training status and records consistent with company policies and procedures. Core Competencies & Skills • Ability to multi-task and handle multiple priorities during a shift • Prior high-volume food production/ preparation experience preferred • Must be able to lift up to and including 35 lbs. repeatedly throughout a shift • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time • Must be able to bend and squat repeatedly throughout a shift Must Meet the Following Minimum Requirements • 18 years of age • Have a minimum of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent, relevant professional, technical experience. • Regular and on-time attendance is mandated and is an essential function of this position. • Attention to detail in all aspects of job responsibilities, including but not limited to good documentation practices, strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedure and Manufacturing Batch Record instructions, equipment and area hygiene and safety, and cGMP adherence. • Comprehend written procedures in English language If this sounds like your perfect job, then apply today by sending your resume: jobs@evgextracts.com
