Site development expert Jeannette Goldsmith told a crowd of local officials and business owners that she gets the sense that Adams County is trying to figure itself out, based on two days of tours and visits to local businesses and projects. Goldsmith, vice president of South Carolina-based site development search firm Strategic Development Group, said she’s been reminded of two counties in Tennessee — Sumner and Rutherford counties — while touring Adams County. Both counties are east of Nashville, Rutherford County to the southeast of Nashville and Sumner to the northeast. “Both are places that are trying to figure out where they fit in as a part of the Nashville metro area,” Goldsmith said. “I get the same sense about Adams County, trying to figure out where you fit in Metro Denver.” Rutherford County is home to the largest state university in Tennessee, as well as Nissan’s North American manufacturing facility. “They are really taking a tack to figure out what makes them unique and how they can add value,” she said..”Sumner is struggling a little bit to figure out their place in the region. Those two places have been in the back of my mind for the last 24-to-36 hours.” Goldsmith was one of three national site selection experts brought to the area by the Adams County Regional Economic Partnership to visit local developments and then give their opinions on how Adams County is doing — and what it can do better.

This is the fourth time the partnership has hosted the summit in five years, with the event returning for 2021 after taking a break in 2020. The Partnership brought in three site selection experts from around the country July 19 through 22. They included Goldsmith, Andy Shapiro, managing director of San Francisco’s Biggins Lacy Shapiro & Company LLC and Jerry Szatan of Chicago-based Szatan and Associates. All three are considered experts in helping large businesses find the best cities and communities around the country to expand their operations or to relocate. The group spent July 20 and 21 visiting a number of potential business magnets, ranging from Denver International Airport to the Colorado Air and Space Port and

Their day culminated in a farm-totable dinner and reception hosted by Adams County at Riverdale Regional Park and the July 22 breakfast. Commerce City hosted the breakfast discussion at Dicks Sporting Goods Park, for county, municipal and economic development officials and business owners from around the region. For Szatan, it was his second Adams County Site Selectors Summit. He visited the area in 2017 and said it was good to come back and see what had changed, especially RTD’s N-Line rail that connects Northglenn, Thornton and Commerce City to downtown Denver. John Cinea John Cinea, a native of Colorado passed away peacefully July 11, 2021 Age of 94 in his home surrounded by loved ones. He served honorably in WWII Army of occupation forces. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. Remembered as a kind, giving and unselfish person that loved gardening, playing his harmonica, crossword puzzles and building model airplanes. When told how he brought smiles to everyone’s faces his reply was simply “I enjoy doing it.” His warm smile and endearing heart will be missed, but always remembered by those whose lives he touched.
He is preceded in death by his parents Severino and Rosina Cinea, Brother Dominic Cinea and Sister Elvira Lee. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 68 years Willamae Cinea, and His children, son John Samuel Cinea, daughters Kathy Ann (John) Thompson and Diana Rush. Grandchildren Chad Rush, Derek (Casey) Rush, Nicholas Thompson, and Sam Thompson. Great grandchildren, Drayton and Cinea Rush. Along with several Nieces and One Nephew.

Thomas Samblanet was promoted to Director for the Fort Lupton Public and School Library taking the place of Sarah Frank, according to a press release by the library. “I am excited to lead the Fort Lupton Public and School Library in the next chapter of its storied history,” said Samblanet. Samblanet Samblanet grew up in Longmont and went to school at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts earning a BFA in Graphic Design. 2021 Adams County Fair Guide
The Adams County Fair is almost as old as the county itself
he first official Adams County Fair was held in October 1904, but the fair and rodeo predate the formation of the county. The fair dates back to 1888, when monthly Market Days were held at the fairgrounds on the south edge of Brighton, which is the presentday site of the City of Brighton Government Center at 450 South 4th Avenue.
The monthly Market Day for farm produce and livestock was organized by Brighton founder Daniel F. Carmichael and other Brighton boosters. The site was a racetrack called Driving Park, where horse races and plowing races took place and cattle and horses were auctioned. The fairgrounds also were the site of July 4th celebrations for several years. The Platte Valley Farmers Association launched a fall fair in Brighton in 1892. The scope of this project was larger than ever before and embraced several counties. Buildings were erected at Driving Park to house exhibits. A 120’ x 32’ grandstand that could seat 500 people was built next to the racetrack with a fine arts hall underneath. A tent eight feet in diameter was constructed to shelter displays of agricultural products. Stalls for horses, sheds for cattle, and pens for hogs were built to the south of the racetrack. A long list of premiums and awards were donated by local businessmen, including the Fulton Ditch Company, Arapahoe County (which then included the area), and various Denver business firms. On October 5, 1892, the day the fair was to begin, Brighton was hit by a terrible rain storm and the fair was postponed. Fortunately, the storm
struck before the exhibits arrived, and the only real damage at the fairgrounds was to the tent, which was flattened by the high winds. The fair was finally held October 18-20. Tomato Day - Battle of Brighton
After the voters of Adams County chose Brighton as the permanent county seat, the fairgrounds were turned over to the newly formed Adams County Fair and Rodeo Association. The first Adams County Fair and Rodeo was held during the first week of October 1904. Opening day was known as Tomato Day and was the day with the best attendance. A noon barbecue was followed by a tomato contest called the Battle of Brighton. Two teams of eight contestants dressed in white represented
the Democratic and Republican opponents for county offices. The two teams lined up and faced each other in front of the grandstand. Each team member was given a box of ripe tomatoes, and on command they disposed of the fruit as quickly as possible by throwing it at the opposing team and occasionally the spectators. Read all about the tomato fights from a newspaper article dated October 2, 1904. The next year the popular event was held between teams from Brighton and Fort Lupton. Other events were wild-bronco riding, half-mile foot races, bicycle and motorcycle races, a mule race, horse races of various sorts, and a baby contest. Over the years famous or soon-to-befamous performers participated
in the rodeo, including African American cowboy Nat “Dead Wood” Dick Love, who once worked as a horse trainer at the Driving Park in Brighton. Growing fair
In 1964, the Adams County Board of County Commissioners decided to move the fair to the former site of the Denver Poor Farm near Henderson, where new facilities were constructed. She is a graduate of Bennett High School where she was involved in Future Farmers of America on the executive committee and held the offices of reporter and historian. Mandy was a 5-year member of

the Dry Creek 4-H club where she showed horses and is an active member of High Plains Trail Riders Horse show club. Mandy is a partner in her family-owned business and farming operations. Her future plans include earning her degree in agriculture production management as the fifth generation to be part of agriculture. In her spare time, she can be found raising her bottle calves, showing her horse, and spending time with her family. Mandy hopes you will join her at the Adams County Fair August 4-8. Kira Szulinski, is the 21-year-old daughter of Milt and Laura Szulinski. She is currently attending Metropolitan State University, majoring in biology. She hopes to become a Physician’s Assistant. Kira has one younger sister who currently attends Horizon High School, the same high school she graduated from in 2018. Kira has been riding horses since she was eight and has participated in 4-H since the age of 12. She also played
softball at a national level from the age of 8 through 17. Kira has been training her horse Ember since she bought the mare as a 6-month-old foal. They began their show career over the past two summers and recently competed at the Colorado State Fair where they took 6th place overall in the level 2 division. The fair holds many wonderful adventures and memories for her. She is delighted to promote the fair and activities it holds. She hopes you will open the doors and join her and Mandy in the adventures August 4-8.

When is Senior Day? Senior Day is on Thursday, Aug. 5, beginning at 10 a.m. This event will be held outdoors this year. Located on the lawn east of the Waymire Dome Building. Enjoy a free lunch for our guests 55 and over, then take in the resource fair and bingo.
Does the fair have a lost and found? Lost and Found is located in the Parks Administrative Offices at the main entrance of the Regional Park Complex. Anyone looking for lost articles should check at this location during the fair from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or call 303.327.9430.
Is there reserved seating at the Grandstand? No. All seating in the United Power Grandstand Arena is general admission.
Do you allow pets at the fair? The only animals allowed on the grounds are service animals, animals on exhibit or those used in entertainment. We do not have accommodations for pets at the fairgrounds.
Where can I go for additional fair Information? Information booths are located in the Exhibit Hall and several booths on the Midway.
Adams County introduced a single-stream recycling program throughout county facilities which has increased the amount of waste diverted from the landfill by 17% since 2011. Plastic bottles, plastic cups, aluminum, cans, paper, and glass can all be recycled while attending the fair.
Where is the Adams County Fair? The Adams County Fair is held at the Riverdale Regional Park Complex at 9755 Henderson Road in Brighton. We are conveniently located off U.S. Highway 85, 124th Avenue, and Riverdale Road.
