A recount of the November election race for the seat that represents east Aurora and far east Centennial on Arapahoe County’s board of elected leaders confirmed that the incumbent Republican will hold onto his seat for another four years. Commissioner Jeff Baker bested Democratic challenger Idris Keith by 164 votes in the final results, according to a spokesperson for the Arapahoe County Baker Clerk and Recorder’s Office, which oversees elections in the county. The race went to an automatic recount as required by law due to Baker’s earlier lead of 165 votes. (The results barely changed.) Recounts are held when the difference between candidates’ votes is less than or equal to one-half of 1% of the leader’s vote count, according to the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office, which oversees elections in the state. In this case, the threshold for a recount was roughly 205 votes. Commissioners make up the governing body of a county, somewhat similar to city councils. SEE RECOUNT, P15
