masks, and those who don’t comply could have their business licenses suspended or revoked. The order in response to COVID-19 was approved July 8 by the TriCounty Health Department Board of Health, the agency that oversees Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas counties.
One of the four people suspected of driving to the home of a Cherokee Trail High School student in an incident that ended with the student’s death could see trial as early as December. But attorneys were still battling over what evidence can be presented at trial and how the case will proceed. A July 7 hearing centered largely on whether the suspect, 18-year-old Kenneth Alfonso Gallegos, knew he and his mother were being listened to in a police interview room after the May 2019 fatal shooting of 18-year-old Lloyd Alvin Chavez IV in east Centennial. Gallegos has pleaded not guilty to charges including first-degree felony murder. Gallegos and his co-defendants were accused of involvement in the shooting that occurred during what was planned as a robbery of vaping products Chavez sold, according to arrest affidavits. After the incident, Gallegos’ mother, Stephania Gallegos, and her husband were taken to an interview room once they got to a law enforcement building, according to the mother’s testimony at the July 7 hearing in Arapahoe County District Court.

A summer of canceled events in Centennial But city held first-ever drive-in movie event BY ELLIS ARNOLD EARNOLD@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM
Summer and early spring are typically time for a long train of
outdoor events in Centennial, but three of those gatherings already have been canceled, and the fate of two more in September is unclear. Live music and food trucks at Centennial Center Park are a tradition in the city, and 2020 would have been the year for the city’s fifth annual Brew-N-Que with local
barbecue and breweries for beertasting, the 15th annual Centennial Under the Stars concert and laserlight show, and a May 30 Summer Kickoff event. But they were canceled amid the coronavirus pandemic, and there may be more scratches ahead. SEE EVENTS, P8
