Third time’s a special charm EHS girls swim team takes state three years in a row BY DEB HURLEY BROBST DBROBST@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM

At the start of the season, there was reason to think Evergreen might not be able to threepeat as the 3A state championship team for 2021, with the graduation of standout swimmers Remi Gucker and Hope Atkins. Turns out this year’s team of swimmers had more than enough firepower to keep the title in Cougar hands once again. And they managed to do is without taking first in any of the 12 events at state on Monday at Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Thornton. Evergreen won the team event with 360 points, beating Aspen, which took second with 273 points, and third place Glenwood Springs at 254 points. It wasn’t long after the first COVID-19 vaccines went into arms that NREL software engineer Nick Muerdter started hearing constantly about the difficulties faced by his coworkers trying to set up a shot for their family members. “It sounded like a lot of it was just so repetitive and frustrating because

they would go to one pharmacy’s website and enter their location and then click on their nearest store and then click several more times to find out ‘oh, nope they don’t actually have vaccines available’ and that would just happen over and over again” he said. “I heard from people that were spending their entire

day trying different stores and ZIP codes.” But where most people would probably just commiserate and move on, Muerdter found himself thinking that there had to be a better way — and that he might just be SEE VACCINE FINDER, P12
