THIS IS WHY YOU CHOSE CC. Welcome to Colorado College—where you’ll learn, live, and explore in ways that just aren’t possible anywhere else. Our innovative Block Plan shapes every part of life at CC, giving you the freedom to focus, the flexibility to explore, and the time to truly connect what you’re learning to the world around you. Here, you’ll take one class for 3.5 weeks. That’s it. No juggling multiple courses or splitting your attention between competing priorities. You’ll dive into a single subject, collaborate closely with classmates, and learn from professors who are just as immersed as you are.

SIGNATURE PROGRAMS SPOTLIGHT Study Abroad & Field Study
Venture Grants
Sciences at CC
The Block Plan makes studying abroad and field study part of everyday learning. Spend a block studying literature in London, ecology in Costa Rica, or art history in Italy, just like 70% of CC students who study abroad before graduation. Nearly 90% of students participate in field studies, learning hands-on in alpine forests, city councils, or archaeological digs.
CC students don’t just imagine change, they create it. The Keller Family Venture Grant Fund provides up to $1,500 (or $3,000 for groups) for original research, creative projects, and global exploration. Nearly 100 students received grants in 2024–25, turning bold ideas into real impact.
Science at CC means full immersion. On the Block Plan, you’ll join faculty on real research—from studying tree lines in the Rockies to mapping galaxies. You’ll gain handson skills, share your work at conferences, and prepare to lead in a rapidly changing world. 40% of CC students are STEM majors.

Career Catalyst Block:
WHERE THE CLASSROOM MEETS THE REAL WORLD Through Colorado College’s newest signature program, Career Catalyst students take their liberal arts education beyond the classroom and into the field—working alongside industry professionals at major companies, tackling real-world challenges, and gaining the confidence (and experience) to thrive after CC. Each intensive, three-and-a-half-week block bridges academic inquiry with hands-on learning, helping students explore careers, build networks, and apply what they’ve learned in meaningful new contexts. Every block has its own theme and partner organization, offering a distinctive lens through which students connect their studies to careers beyond campus. Students in the first two Career Catalyst blocks spent time in Los Angeles at Mattel and Washington, DC at the National Geographic Society.
“I happened to see a flyer in the library with the words National Geographic and immediately signed up,” she said. “I thought this would be an amazing way to get out of my comfort zone and apply the concepts I've learned in class to a professional environment.” Chloe Jung ’27, English major Hometown: Colorado Springs, CO “Before this block, I dreaded everything that had to do with a professional career,” Chloe said. “But by the third week, presenting before a large group—even in front of the CEO of one of the most influential nonprofit organizations in the world—felt natural.” She left the experience with newfound confidence and perspective. “I used to think I needed to tell my own story to make an impact, but I realized that being a leader can also mean uplifting the stories of others,” she said. “This kind of selflessness is one I hope to take with me during my time at CC and after graduation.”
Week one of the block began on campus, where Chloe and her classmates studied readings on knowledge, education, and professionalism. In weeks two and three, the class traveled to Washington, D.C., for an immersive experience with National Geographic. There, Chloe and her classmates met National Geographic executives, employees, and even former CC president and current CEO Jill Tiefenthaler. The block culminated in a 24-hour group research project, an experience Chloe described as “difficult and uncomfortable at first, but ultimately transformative.”

As an associate at Morgan Stanley, Orren Fox ’20 thrives in one of the most dynamic environments in global finance. He credits the rigor and rhythm of Colorado College’s Block Plan with preparing him to think critically, adapt quickly, and tackle complex challenges head-on. For Orren, the lessons learned at CC continue to shape how he works, leads, and learns every day.
Orren Fox ’20, Economics major Hometown: Newburyport, MA You’ve built your career in the fast-paced world of investment banking at Morgan Stanley—what has that experience been like, and what excites you most about working at the heart of global finance?
CC emphasizes learning that connects across disciplines. How has your liberal arts background influenced the way you think and lead in the financial world?
There’s no better way to begin a career than to place yourself at the center of the action. Every day presents new challenges—whether it’s advising on a major Mergers & Acquisitions transaction or navigating volatile markets. The pace is relentless, but that is what makes it exciting. Frankly, it’s fun being at the intersection of capital, economics, and strategy, and it’s a wonderful way to continue learning after CC.
A liberal arts background provides you with a broader lens through which to view problems. Often, it seems that the subject matter of your classes matters less than the habits and skills you form while studying numerous disciplines. Fall semester of my first year, I took AH 203: Women in Art, without appreciating the intensity and prior knowledge needed to excel in a class of this caliber. As someone with no art history background, I learned how to learn quickly and how to distil my learnings into clear ideas. These skills serve me well as I work across many different groups, each with their own priorities, jargon, and manner of working. Adaptability is key, and it is something you can develop by pushing yourself to take classes in unfamiliar disciplines, even though you may think to yourself, “When am I ever going to use this?”
How did the Block Plan shape the way you approach complex projects or problem-solving in your career today? The Block Plan taught me how to work quickly without sacrificing quality. It mimics the pace and focus required to thrive in a career and juggling numerous assignments simultaneously. People appreciate those who can work with urgency but maintain the intellectual depth and honesty to produce good work even when time is short. It’s incredibly valuable to be able to focus intensely, absorb information quickly, and to draw connections between seemingly disparate ideas while synthesizing what you’ve learned in a digestible way so that others can learn too.

What advice would you give to current or future CC students who want to carve their own path in competitive industries like finance? The biggest hurdle to landing a seat at a big bank is differentiating yourself from the horde of other applicants. Fortunately, CC does that for you with the Block Plan. Understand how this makes you different and how it shapes your approach to work and learning. Early in your career, all that matters is your
capacity to learn and to work hard, both of which are essential to excelling at CC. Do both of these things and find a way to communicate how the Block Plan rewards these skills, and you will be just fine! If you could go back and talk to yourself as a newly admitted student, what would you tell him about making the most of the CC experience?
until it overflows, then add some more. You won’t regret joining more clubs, taking harder classes, and learning new things, but you will regret saying “I don’t have time for that” only to realize that it gets infinitely harder to do all those amazing things once you graduate.
Take advantage of every block break. Go to every talk. Join Dance Workshop. Play club sports. When you think you have no time and can’t possibly do more, find something else to do. Fill up your plate

Gap Year? No Problem. Each year, approximately 20–30 incoming students opt to delay the start of their CC experience and pursue a gap experience. Gap students know themselves well, are resilient and independent, and are more likely to be leaders on our campus. Some students use their gap semesters or gap years to stay home and work, volunteer full-time, or travel the country or the world.
