The Class of 2018

Congratulations to the Colorado Academy Class of 2018!

This class of 100 students has distinguished itself in so many ways. These students are mathematicians, singers, dancers, scientists, athletes, performers, social justice advocates, philanthropists, innovators, self-directed learners, painters, and entrepreneurs. Each student has brought unique talents to his or her time at CA, and together the class is a remarkable collection of young people.

Every member of this class devoted time to causes beyond CA. They built homes for local families, and they raised money to help schoolchildren in Haiti. They served elderly and homeless people, and they helped veterans and refugees, using their boundless energy to create better local and global communities.

The Class of 2018 has great plans for the future, starting with the college studies they plan: neuroscience, business, film directing, psychology, engineering, computer science, theater, medicine, nursing, environmental studies, art history, architecture, political science, music education—and more. No matter their field of study, their experiences at CA will provide a solid foundation on which to build a career and a life.

Thanks to the Class of 2018 for all you have brought to CA!

Leilani Aki Abeyta

At CA since: Fourth Grade Powerful Experience: In my course “The Supreme Court,” I had the opportunity to create a visual explanation of our topic in place of an essay. That provided me with confidence to see what I was capable of when incorporating arts with academics and allowed me to express my ideas fully with my teacher and my peers.

Community Impact Project: I went to Brookdale Senior Living and did art projects with the elders to connect through art and give people a chance to express themselves and create something they’re proud of.

Transformational Experience I Will Remember: I learned to accept myself for who I am, even when it’s hard, and to be honest with myself and others about what I need.

Where I Hope to be in a Decade: I see myself being a professional artist either doing murals or commission work for companies, working with kids through art, doing a gallery residency, participating in activism, or creating personal work.

Immediate Plans: Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, Md., to study Studio Art.

Emmanuella (Emma) Adwoa

Foriwah Akomeah-Sirleaf

At CA since: Eighth Grade Powerful Experience: The Senior Speeches are powerful, because it’s enlightening to hear the stories and experiences of your peers which have made them who they are today.

Community Impact Project: My senior Community Impact Project was to help Lower School students with reading and literacy.

Favorite CA Tradition: My favorite CA tradition is the Portfolio Show put on by art students. It’s really fun to see all the effort they’ve put into their work on display.

Transformational Experience I Will Remember: I will always remember my Interim experiences at CA. Through Interim, I have been given the opportunity to experience things I never otherwise would have.

Where I Hope to be in a Decade: In ten years, I see myself as a pediatrician doing what I love most, helping the sick and taking care of children.

Immediate Plans: Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, Ohio, to study Pre-Medicine.

6

Kate Elizabeth Altman

At CA since: Ninth Grade Powerful Experience: One of my best experiences at CA was this past season with everyone on the Cross Country Team. They made the impossible workouts bearable and the beginning of my senior year amazing!

Community Impact Project: I interned for AfricAid, a nonprofit organization that supports girls’ education in Tanzania. AfricAid provides young women with the opportunity to transform their lives and communities.

Favorite CA Tradition: I really enjoyed the first day of school, because I loved dressing up and welcoming my freshman buddy to the Upper School.

Transformational Experience I Will Remember: At CA, I learned that it’s important to ask the hard questions.

Where I Hope to be in a Decade: I see myself making a difference.

Immediate Plans: Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa., to study Environmental Studies.

Brady Fie Anderson

At CA since: Pre-Kindergarten Powerful Experience: I found a network of friends and built a community through the Cross Country Team.

Community Impact Project: I worked with the Horizons program to create a film and acting seminar for students who attended monthly Super Saturday events. Horizons students received an introduction to both acting and film and created their own short movies.

Favorite CA Tradition: Giant Relay Day has always been a fantastic time to go outside, eat some burgers, and enjoy the end of the year with friends and faculty.

Transformational Experience I Will Remember: I will remember the kind of intellectual curiosity CA fosters though class offerings and wonderful teachers, and I will try to emulate the same values teachers inspire in students each and every day.

Where I Hope to be in a Decade: I hope to be a mentor and role model for others in whichever profession I choose to pursue.

Immediate Plans: Pitzer College, Claremont, Calif., to study Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.
