Class of 2012

The Class of 2012 is the final class to spend its entire academic year in the Knowles Upper School Building, which was decommissioned in late May to make way for a new Upper School.
This class of 78 students includes a Daniels Scholar, a Never Forgotten Fund Scholarship winner, many playwrights at Denver’s Curious Theatre, more than a dozen recruited college athletes, members of the All-State Choir, editors of CA’s award-winning Kokopelli and Journey Work publications, portfolio artists, robotbuilders, engineering enthusiasts, film makers, linguists, and more. These are individuals who are devoted to causes and communities beyond CA, whether helping children with cancer, or staging yet another record-breaking Students H.O.P.E. event for those in need. And this group will travel the world to attend college, from Palo Alto, California, to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
The Class of 2012 includes many students who have been a part of the CA community since Pre-Kindergarten, as well as one whose senior year at CA was his first. Says one student, “You’ll be a part of lots of things and places throughout your life, but only a few places will always be a part of you.”

At CA since Second Grade, will attend Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas
My favorite CA memory was our fifth grade trip to Crow Canyon.
My favorite CA tradition is the first day of senior year when we dress up with a theme and welcome the freshmen on the front steps.
I’d like to be remembered at CA for being upbeat and always trying to have a fun time!
Lifelong lessons from CA: I will carry with me the lessons I learned from all of my great teachers at CA.
At CA since Fourth Grade, will attend Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon
My favorite CA memory came during the five minutes before our field hockey state finals game. It was at that moment, standing in the pre-game huddle, that I realized I was a part of something more than just another team. My favorite CA tradition was the themed dress up days before sports games.
Lifelong lessons from CA: There comes a point at a school like CA where you become so comfortable and you just let your guard down. I reached that point at CA, and I have no problem just being myself.
At CA since Pre-Kindergarten, will attend Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire
My favorite CA memory was beating our rival, Kent Denver, in lacrosse. I’ve never been a part of a team or group of kids that I’ve cared about as much. CA hadn’t beat them for decades, and the game was attended by a huge number of people. It felt good to win for CA, for our team, and for myself. Needless to say, the whole school was excited about it.
My favorite CA tradition happens at the first-day-of-school assembly. The seniors are each called by name and then proceed to scream the class chant. I’ve watched it since I was in Pre-K, so to finally be the one standing up and yelling felt pretty sensational. Our Class of 2012 chant was, “One who? One-two!”
I’d like to be remembered as a person who was deeply involved in many aspects of the school. I’ve always thought that I’ve embodied Colorado Academy’s goal,
which is to allow students to take advantage of the many resourses available to them in order to create a well-rounded life. I feel that I’ve strongly reinforced the idea that CA students can be amazing athletes, musicians, leaders, and scholars all at the same time. I hope that my example will encourage younger students to take advantage of everything that is right here in front of them.
Lifelong lessons from CA: CA has taught me a work ethic that can help me succeed in any aspect of life. In the classroom, if you can’t do math, doing all your homework every night will make you a better student. On the lacrosse field, if you can’t throw the ball, getting on the wall for an hour will improve your skills exponentially. No matter what I do in the future, I’ll take this lesson with me.
At CA since Second Grade, will attend the University of Colorado at Boulder in Boulder, Colorado
My favorite CA memory was getting some help from my fifth grade teacher so that my two friends and I could skip swim practice during P.E. The pool was freezing! Mrs. Adams would find a reason for us to stay behind and help her. It felt like a secret among the four of us as the rest of my class walked in dripping and smelling of chlorine.
My favorite CA tradition is Color Wars. I like how there are two teams made up of all grades.
I want to be remembered for my senior Portfolio Show. I hope my spray paint and stencils are remembered for being different and for having an impact on people.
Lifelong lessons from CA: CA has taught me to respect and be comfortable around all types of people. I give CA full credit for my acceptance of people of a different age, gender, race, religion, or political leaning. The teachers at CA have taught me how to ask for help and how to help others.
At CA since Pre-Kindergarten, will attend the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado
My favorite CA memory was making it to the state finals for field hockey this year.
My favorite CA tradition is Giant Relay Day. I would like to be remembered for my competitive spirit and my love for playing sports.
Lifelong lessons from CA: Both the 2011 and 2012 seasons of field hockey made everyone on the team close, and I will never forget what I experienced with my teammates.
At CA since Ninth Grade, will attend Georgetown University in Washington, DC
My favorite CA memory was when the boys and girls in Chanteurs decided to switch clothes after the picture for the yearbook this year. The girls looked quite dapper in their suits, and I never knew the boys in choir looked so good in dresses!
My favorite CA tradition is the Faculty Skit before Winter Break. It is always fun to see my teachers’ acting skills and inventive jokes. It has definitely been a highlight of my time at CA.
I would like to be remembered for my compassion and my consistency.
Lifelong lessons from CA: I learned how to be my own person and roll with the punches. CA showed me more about who I am and who I want to be. More importantly, it showed me to do the best with what I’m given in order to achieve my goals.
At CA since Twelfth Grade, will attend the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington
My favorite CA memories are of the friends I made, and of the great community of which I got to be a part, if only briefly.
I would like to be remembered as the only new student in senior year who nevertheless founded the astronomy club and worked in the booth during almost every theater production. (I’ll probably just be remembered for being really pale.)
At CA since Ninth Grade, will attend the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California
My favorite CA memory was the time I pushed Ali around the high school in a recycling bin and attempted to scare and surprise our teachers.
My favorite CA tradition is Color Wars because of the team spirit and rivalry.
I would like to be remembered for my contributions to each of the Ultimate Frisbee teams.
At CA since Pre-Kindergarten, will attend Colgate University in Hamilton, New York
My favorite CA memories come from competing as a varsity tennis player who had the opportunity to represent Colorado Academy at the State Tennis Tournament and appreciating the camaraderie and support the players offered each other as a team.
My favorite CA tradition was baking cinnamon bread in MAC every Friday, which made the entire Lower School smell amazing. I would like to be remembered as a student who has exemplified the core values of Colorado Academy by striving for excellence in being a diligent student and a serious athlete.
Lifelong lessons from CA: The long-lasting friendships I have built with the teachers of Colorado Academy have laid the foundation for my subsequent education and the relationships I hope to build in the future.
At CA since Kindergarten, will attend Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio
My favorite CA memory was beating our rival, Kent Denver, in lacrosse during my sophomore year. We beat them 6-2 in front of a large home crowd. My memories of those moments on the field will last for a lifetime.
My favorite CA tradition is being paired with a Kindergartener as a senior buddy. I still remember when I was in Kindergarten, and my senior buddy was Rordan Shane. I had the pleasure of being coached by him in seventh grade. I hope Carleton has enjoyed me as much as I have enjoyed being his senior buddy this year.
I would like to be remembered as an all-around student athlete. I feel I have juggled CA’s academic rigor, my extra curricular activities, and all of my sports quite well. Without my experiences as a student-athlete at CA, I would not be the same person I am today.
Lifelong lessons from CA: I will carry the “Brotherhood” with me for the rest of my life. This is the lacrosse team motto, the simple word that has pulled the team through hardships and victories. Above all, the Brotherhood has taught me how to be a leader, take criticism, and work as a unit. And of course the Brotherhood would be nothing without our great coaches, Lance Savage, Dan Pratt, and Brel McCoy.
At CA since Sixth Grade, will attend the University of Colorado at Boulder in Boulder, Colorado
My favorite CA memory has been spending time with my advisory throughout my entire high school career.
My favorite CA tradition is Giant Relay Day because it is such a fun way to end the school year!
At CA since Kindergarten, will attend the University of California at San Diego in La Jolla, California
My favorite CA memories have come from playing with the Ultimate Frisbee team. I have made some really great friends, and I am planning on playing in college.
My favorite CA tradition is Senior/Kindergarten Buddy Program because it has been cool to be able to look back and remember how I idolized my senior buddies and then get the opportunity to be the senior myself.
I would like to be remembered for being a part of every team on which I played, for being part of the choir, and most importantly, for being part of the CA community.
At CA since Pre-Kindergarten, will attend Chapman University, The Dodge College of Film in Orange, California
My favorite CA memories come from a school trip to England bewtween seventh and eighth grade . To this day, those memories are some of the best I have.
My favorite CA tradition is the Spring Musical. Every year, I make new friends and reconnect with old ones.
I would like to be remembered as the girl who listened to anyone who had a problem and was friends with all age groups.
Lifelong lessons from CA: I learned to branch out and take risks.
At CA since Kindergarten, will attend the University of Portland in Portland, Oregon
My favorite CA memory was during my final soccer game on the Colorado Academy Men’s Soccer Team. It was a playoff game, and I scored a goal to tie the game up and send it to overtime. Although we lost, I will always remember the reaction and support from fans and teammates. I have found that the time bonding with teams was one of my favorite things at CA.
My favorite CA tradition is Senior Kidnap Day. It is always so exciting every year to be surprised with a fun day off school. Most of the time it is kept a secret, and when it finally comes it is one of the best days of the year!
I would like to be remembered as the last Devereaux to graduate. I would like to most be remembered for the laughs that I have brought to the CA campus. Lifelong lessons from CA: I have spent the last twelve years of my life at CA. Over those years I grew and matured greatly. If I have to choose one thing to carry with me it would be the way in which I go about problem solving. I have learned to confront a variety of challenges in different ways, and with the help of the education I received, I will definitely be able to be successful in the future.
At CA since Fourth Grade, will attend Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas
My favorite CA memory is the Interim trip I went on junior year to Montana. We did three days of trail riding on horseback, and it was one of the best experiences I have ever had. The scenery was breath taking, and the trust I developed with my horse going up and down the mountains truly tested me. It was a trip I will never forget.
My favorite CA tradition is Senior Kidnap Day because of the surprise factor. The seniors have fun finally being at the top of the school and the freshmen have fun getting to know the older kids in the high school and seeing everyone in a different setting. I would like to be remembered for my energy, enthusiasm, and laughter. Lifelong lessons from CA: The value of working hard.
At CA since Seventh Grade, will attend the University of British Columbia Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada
My favorite CA memory is the lacrosse program, in particular the home games against Kent Denver. BROTHERHOOD!
My favorite CA tradition is the Homecoming Pep Rally. I would like to be remembered for my contributions to the film program at the school. I am very proud of the direction of the CA arts, and in particular the film program. I also hope to be remembered for the multiple entrepreneurial ventures which I created during my time at CA, the newest being Poutine Cuisine, a french fry and poutine stand at local venues this summer! If you’d like to find out more visit us on the web at www.poutinecuisine.com.
At CA since Eighth Grade, will attend the Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri
My favorite CA memory is playing basketball in my senior year. From the good friends I had on the team to how much I love the sport itself, it was my happiest time at CA.
My favorite CA tradition is Giant Relay Day. Between Color Wars and the actual relays, it is by far the most laidback day at school and eases you into summer. It is just an overall fun day.
I would like to be remembered for the friendships I made and the effort I put into basketball. I feel like when we all push ourselves even just a little bit, we can achieve great things.
Lifelong lessons from CA: At CA, I learned how to think on my feet. From making presentations to planning my homework for the night, I always had to be on my toes. That is something that will help me tremendously in college and beyond.
At CA since Ninth Grade, will attend the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado
My favorite CA memory is from freshman year on the Varsity 2 Tennis Team. My team was made up of mostly seniors, and I was terrified of them, but as the season progressed I became quite close with all of them. It was pretty cool.
My favorite CA tradition is the welcoming of the freshmen by the seniors on the first day of school. The seniors help the freshmen start their first of four years in the high school by standing at the front steps and welcoming each freshman into the class. It creates a bond between the two grades that lasts for the rest of the year.
I would like to be remembered for being a nice kid and a loyal friend.
Lifelong lessons from CA: One experience I’ll always remember is going to the State Championships with the tennis team as a senior. Not only was it fun, but the way our whole team came together and supported each other was really special to me.
At CA since Fifth Grade, will attend Swarthmore College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
My favorite CA memory is taking Russian Literature with Mr. Lee.
My favorite CA tradition is marching out from the Lacrosse House in lines of two, down to Slater Field. I would like to be remembered for my independence.
At CA since Pre-Kindergarten, will attend the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California
My favorite CA memory was when Raquel and I got the lead parts for the first grade play, “The Ugly Duckling Twins.” I’m sure it was hilarious to watch Raquel push me out of the way of the microphone.
My favorite CA tradition is Kindergarten Buddies. I loved being able to get to know and hang out with the Kindergarteners because they were all so cute and funny.
I would like to be remembered for my contributions to Kokopelli and for being a genuine and fun person.
Lifelong lessons from CA: CA has helped me form friendships that will last forever, and for that, I feel so fortunate to have been able to go here.
At CA since Ninth Grade, will attend Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
My favorite CA memory was taking the bus down to watch the Women’s Field Hockey team compete in the State Championships. It was amazing to see our entire school rally around the team, and I always have a blast cheering at games.
My favorite CA tradition is the senior Portfolio Art Shows. It’s a great way to see the incredible work that my classmates do, but often goes unnoticed. Everyone from the entire school shows up - teachers, students, parents - to support all of CA’s artists.
I would like to be remembered at CA for my work with AfricAid. I have really enjoyed seeing the organization grow, and I am always amazed at the difference that the CA club has on the lives of women halfway around the world.
Lifelong lessons from CA: CA taught me that it’s better to try something and decide you hate it, than to regret not having tried it at all. You never know what hidden passions or talents you have.
At CA since Second Grade, will attend Sewanee: The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee
My favorite CA memory was the State Volleyball Tournament. It was so exciting to earn a spot among the top teams in Colorado. Even more exciting was seeing the whole CA community at the Denver Coliseum supporting the team. It was such an amazing feeling to have everyone come together!
My favorite CA tradition is the buddy program. I love my Kindergarten buddy! Having the opportunity to get to know him and watch him grow has been the most enjoyable experience. I always look forward to seeing him and know that he will always make me laugh.
I would like to be remembered as someone who was a hard worker and a passionate friend.
At CA since Kindergarten, will attend University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington
My favorite CA memory was going to the State Volleyball Tournament. It was the most incredible feeling seeing a bunch of students in the stands watching us even though it was a school day.
My favorite CA tradition is Interim because it is the perfect time to relax and forget about school for a week. It’s also cool to hang out with teachers in a different environment and be with students that you may not normally be with at school.
I would like to be remembered for my awesome abbreviations and sayings!
Lifelong lessons from CA: All of it! There are too many amazing experiences to count since I have been here so long. I’m really going to miss it.
At CA since Seventh Grade, will attend New York University - Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development-Art Department, in New York, New York
My favorite CA memory was my portfolio art show with Ethan Hill and Jack Edgar. I had been looking forward to my art show since I was a freshman. It gave me an opportunity to express my art to the rest of the school and show them how much art means to me.
My favorite CA traditions are the junior writing courses and senior seminar courses. They really helped with essay writing, poetry, and prose. Senior seminar was a fantastic way to end my English career at CA.
I would like to be remembered for more than just my sarcasm and occasional jokes. I want people to think of me as a strong, independent person. I would say I want people to remember me as a dear friend that everyone could talk to.
Lifelong lessons from CA: I will always remember some advice that Mr. Lee gave me when my mother was sick. I was struggling with coordinating school with spending time with my mom. Mr. Lee helped me realize that sometimes, you just have to let life happen as it is. He told me, “Would you rather look
back in 30 years and say, ‘I ditched my homework in order to be with my mom,’ or, ‘I ditched my mom in order to get an assignment done?’” Of course I ditched my homework. It’s a small price to pay, but Mr. Lee made me realize that there are plenty of sacrifices you have to make in order to do what is truly important in life.
At CA since Ninth Grade, will attend Digipen Institute of Technology in Redmond, Washington
My favorite CA memory was walking into the Upper School to see the entire floor covered in balloons as part of last year’s senior prank. It was incredibly memorable. So many balloons!
My favorite CA tradition is one inviting high caliber musicians and dancers to perform during assemblies; I will always remember the Whiffenpoofs along with all the other great musicians that played for us.
I would like to be remembered for co-founding the Robotics Club and the Computer Science League. I hope that these clubs will stay active in the school for decades to come.
Lifelong lessons from CA: Passion. They say with hard work you can accomplish anything, but when the hard work is a passion, it is not work. (I never had computer science ‘homework’... but I did computer science assignments at home). I cannot wait to follow my passions in the future.
At CA since Sixth Grade, will attend Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee
My favorite CA memories come from a summer abroad trip in Middle School. We traveled to England and Scotland and saw awesome places like Stonehenge, Buckingham Palace, and much more. Not only did I have a great opportunity to visit Europe, but I also became friends with some of my best friends during that trip.
My favorite CA tradition is Giant Relay Day. The whole school comes together and gets to feast on the traditional lunch of hotdogs and hamburgers, sign the newly acquired yearbooks, and compete in a friendly relay against the other teams. It always marked the beginning of summer, and is always a great way to finish the year.
I would like to be remembered as a friendly, funny, approachable person who was a role model as a committed singer and a passionate and dedicated volleyball athlete.
Lifelong lessons from CA: I will always remember the State Volleyball Tournament. Going to state had been our goal since freshman year, and although we only made it to the tournament my senior year, it was definitely the greatest volleyball season I have ever played. We didn’t expect to make it to the championship match, and be 27-0 (until the last day of the State Tournament). But most importantly, I will always remember that we, a small but mighty team of 10 or so players, were able to unite the CA community.
At CA since Pre-Kindergarten, will attend Chapman University in Orange, California
My favorite CA memory is Mr. Blanas’ Greeks class in eleventh grade. We laughed (to the point of tears) every day, and we really bonded as a class to the point where we made Greek “Jersey Shore” t-shirts.
My favorite CA tradition is the Buddy Program! I’ve been both the Kindergartener and the senior. I enjoyed it as much as a seventeen yearold as I did when I was five.
I would like to be remembered for my volunteer work at the Horizons Program at CA and also for my contribution in choir (especially my dance moves).
Lifelong lessons from CA: I made great friends and formed great relationships with my teachers and will always remember that.
At CA since Ninth Grade, will attend Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut
My favorite CA memory is my recent art show with Yasmin Gunberg and Jack Edgar. Not only did it come together perfectly and beautifully, but I was so happily surprised by the large turnout and how many people of all ages seemed to enjoy it. I am continually impressed by just how invested the CA community is in the arts, from young to old.
My favorite CA tradition is the Senior/Kindergarten Buddy Program. It was such a great experience. The other day, our Kindergarten buddy, Abby, gave Rachel Wright and me a presentation she had put together on sea slugs. I’m still amazed by how much she knew and had researched, like where their gills are located and how they gain their color from the creatures they eat. Spending time with such a bright kid over the past year was a really incredible and heartwarming experience. I would like to be remembered for not once setting foot in the CA weight room, eating far too much candy from the College Office, and being a generally happy person. And for being an artist and musician.
Lifelong lessons from CA: Never eat a sandwich with onions for lunch. The taste and smell will linger all day. Just play it safe and have some soup or something.
At CA since Seventh Grade, will attend the University of Colorado at Boulder, in Boulder, Colorado
My favorite CA memories are from the first day of school each year. The CA community is always so welcoming, and the excitement that echoes through the halls of the school is simply unparalleled.
My favorite CA tradition is Colorado Academy’s Senior/Kindergarten Buddy Program. It is certainly one my favorite aspects of senior year. It puts school into perspective, and gives one a chance to look back on the plethora of education received throughout school. Reading a long Dr. Seuss book can be just as important as a big AP test. Traditions like these also connect the school in a very unique way. I would like to be remembered for my time in the Colorado Academy Poetry Club. A fellow student and I formed the club in 2009, and it has been a source of happiness for me ever since. There is an amazing group of poets in this school, and it is great to have a place to read, write, and share poetry outside of organized classes. I hope the club continues to have meetings and Poetry Slams after I leave. Lifelong lessons from CA: Going to Colorado Academy is an experience; it is not just an education. This school provides so much more than that. CA helped to shape me into the person I am today, and I will carry every aspect of this experience with me for the rest of my life.
At CA since Kindergarten, will attend St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota
My favorite CA memory was when we beat Kent Denver in lacrosse my sophomore year.
My favorite CA tradition is Giant Relay Day. I enjoy everything from the dunk tanks to the barbeque. I also just loved being able to relax at the end of the school year. I would like to be remembered at CA for my kindness and positive outlook on life.
At CA since Tenth Grade, will attend Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island
My favorite CA memories are those with the field hockey team. I will always remember our times together fondly, both wins and losses.
My favorite CA tradition is the Senior Boards. I love seeing all of them at the end of the year. It’s always fun to see how much people have
grown over the years, and where they plan to go in the future. The Senior Boards are a great way to illustrate such successful high school careers. I would like to be remembered for being friendly and positive.
At CA since Kindergarten, will attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida
My favorite CA memory is when sometime in Kindergarten or first grade we were playing soccer and recruited almost every guy in the grade and then challenged a few fifth graders.
My favorite CA tradition is the Brotherhood.
I would like to be remembered for creating a terminal for more aviation interests coming out of CA.
Lifelong lessons from CA: There are too many. One reccurring experience is when random people ask me where I go to school, and I reply, “Colorado Academy” and every response I get is, “Oh, wow, that’s a great school, good for you!”
At CA since Ninth Grade, will attend Stanford University in Palo Alto, California
My favorite CA memories are the times I beat the prideful Mr. T in a game of Hearts!
My favorite CA tradition is definitely Kindergarten Buddies. Hadley, sweety, you are the light of my life.
I would like to be remembered for the goofy excitement I brought to all my classes, clubs, and friends.
Lifelong lessons from CA: I learned so much from my work with Students H.O.P.E.! I want to carry with me the dedication, passion and joy of giving back it inspired.
At CA since Third Grade, will attend Cornell University in Ithaca, New York
My favorite CA memory is my first day of freshman year. Between the seniors screaming from the front steps and receiving a ridiculous costume from my senior buddy, I felt incredibly overwhelmed, but I loved it.
My favorite CA traditions are Giant Relay Day and Color Wars. In Lower and
Middle school, we did sack races and high jumps, then in high school grew into sock wrestling and pie eating. It is always so much fun getting competitive with friends and cheering on classmates. GO RED TEAM!
I would like to be remembered for being friendly to everyone, having a great school spirit, and being a loyal friend.
At CA since Ninth Grade, will attend Centre College in Danville, Kentucky
My favorite CA memory is being part of the basketball program for four years. It was so enjoyable to be on this year’s team, and I will never forget the ten players, the three coaches and all the great memories.
My favorite CA tradition is the Senior/Kindergarten Buddy Program. I really enjoyed having a Kindergarten buddy this year. It makes you enjoy the little things and gives you a great perspective on the things that really matter.
I would like to be remembered as someone who was fun-loving and happy, and a competitor on the basketball court.
Lifelong lessons from CA: I have really enjoyed my experiences during Interim, and I will take the spirit of trying different things with me for the rest of my life.
At CA since Tenth Grade, will attend Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee
My favorite CA memory is of the debates we had in AP US History.
My favorite CA tradition is Interim.
I would like to be remembered for ignoring political correctness.
At CA since Second Grade, will attend the Eugene Lang College at the New School of Liberal Arts in New York City, New York
My favorite CA memory is of the social aspect of Colorado Academy. I will always enjoy how connected the student body was through events like dances.
My favorite CA tradition: The high school is continually rich in traditions, so much so that I cannot pick a favorite.
At CA since Third Grade, will attend Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota
My favorite CA memory is my fourth grade experience with “Mini Society.” For a few weeks, the entire fourth grade became a miniature version of society. We all created products and sold them to one another. I distinctly remember everyone setting up their “shops” in the Lower School library. There was excitement, there was laughter, there were pet rocks. Everyone was eager to buy with fake money in hand. “Mini Society” may have taught me the basics of money, but almost more importantly, it taught me how to make a pretty great scrunchie. It was lots of fun!
My favorite CA tradition is definitely Interim. Ever since the sixth grade, I have looked forward to these trips that cap off each school year. Interim is great because you get the chance to try something new or develop an existing skill, go to exciting places (even if it is just a CA classroom), and get to know people that used to be another face that you’d see in the hallway. From fly fishing in Middle School to exploring and camping in Colorado’s mountains in Upper School, each interim that I have been on has been a true adventure. Interim is just one of many CA traditions that has given me millions of great memories.
I would like to be remembered as the girl who did it all. Perhaps I will be remembered as the thinker, as the singer, as the athlete, or as the girl with the nice penmanship. No matter the exact way that people at CA remember me, I hope that I am recognized as someone who loved her time at CA and as a good member of the community. I hope that students and teachers alike will look back and think of me as a person with an energy that had a positive impact on CA’s campus.
At CA since Ninth Grade, will attend Pitzer College in Claremont, California
My favorite CA memory: It’s too difficult to choose only one memory that has been a particular favorite during my time at CA, because I have had so many. I have loved hanging out with my friends on the steps of the music building, my senior prom, managing the boys baseball team, playing hearts during lunch, and spending time with my Kindergarten buddy. My favorite memories of CA are all about the people I love.
My favorite CA tradition is the welcome for freshmen to the Upper School by the seniors on the front steps of every year. It was a great feeling as a freshman to be welcomed into the community, especially being new to the school. I would like to be remembered for making a good life for myself, even after
Elizabethtough times. Equanimity is defined as, “mental calmness, composure, and evenness of temper, especially in a difficult situation,” and I strive for that. I hope I will be remembered for at least giving it a shot.
Lifelong lessons from CA: I got the chance to work with H.O.P.E. every year, and being a part of something that helps so many people has been so valuable and positive for me. It’s taught me how much I love being a part of community service, and I plan to continue in college.
At CA since Kindergarten, will attend the University of Colorado at Boulder, Honors Engineering Program in Boulder, Colorado
My favorite CA memory is from the beginning of my junior year I felt that I was one of only a few kids at CA who were interested in robotics and computers. As a small group of my friends and I tinkered with projects in our spare time, Doc (Hogan) pulled us aside one day and suggested that we start an Engineering Club. We were amazed that more than 25 students showed up at our first meeting. At that moment, I realized that I was not the only one with a passion for engineering and gadgets. In fact, there were more students interested in the Engineering Club than almost any other club at CA. Doc’s grin revealed a look of, “I told you so,” to which I could only smile.
My two favorite CA traditions would be Giant Relay Day and all of the theater shows. Giant Relay Day has been part of my life since I can remember. Back in Lower School, I remember how excited I would be to get the ribbons and prizes then take my turn at the dunk tank. It was the day I looked forward to year after year, and it has always put a smile on my face. Similarly, while I was never on stage of any of CA’s theater productions, I was always behind the scenes designing, building and running the shows along with an amazing crew of students. With every show, I could stand back stage and smile knowing that I had been part of a production while having fun the entire time.
I would like to be remembered for showing students that engineering is not only fun but is cool as well. I hope to return to CA in the coming years to discover that the next generation of students is using engineering in their every day lives regardless of their skill level. I am excited to see what coming students can think up and create in the Innovation Lab in the new high school.
Lifelong lessons from CA: One thing that I learned and will carry with me for the rest of my life is not to judge people too quickly.
At CA since Third Grade, will attend Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina
My favorite CA memories come from this year’s fall sports season when both the volleyball and field hockey teams made it to their state title games. I will always remember standing in the front row of the Denver Coliseum and cheering for the women’s volleyball team until I got a headache.
My favorite CA “tradition” is when, on the morning of the pep rally, CA alums bring in bagels and juice for the entire high school. The memories are something I will cherish forever.
I would like to be remembered for my sense of humor and my work in creating the Colorado Academy Sports and Lawn Chairs Club. I hope that future students will carry on my legacy of intense sports enthusiasm.
Lifelong lessons from CA: Just one more memory, really. I will always remember when the Sports Club and I wore “jorts” to the volleyball regional tournament.
At CA since Pre-Kindergarten, will attend Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia
My favorite CA memory has been playing on the volleyball team. I have loved spending every afternoon with some of my best friends belting the Dixie Chicks in practice and playing all the way to the State Championship match in the Denver Coliseum. Volleyball has kept me close to the coaches, friends, and mentors I have known since Pre-Kindergarten. My favorite CA traditions are of the strong sense of community at CA, and this is why I love the Senior/Kindergarten Buddy Program. I can remember spending a day at the zoo with my senior buddy when I was in Kindergarten, and now I am the senior buddy taking my Kindergartener to the Denver Zoo. It is a tradition that brings my experience here at CA full circle.
I would like to be remembered for contributing to the school as much as it has contributed to who I am today. I hope all of my teachers, coaches, and mentors will remember me for my dedication and tenacity while my classmates remember me as a caring and dependable friend.
Lifelong lessons from CA: I have experienced so much, growing intellectually and physically within the CA community, and I will always carry with me the relationships with friends and teachers who have helped make me the independent and well-rounded person I am.
At CA since Fifth Grade, will attend Yale University in New Haven, Connecticutt.
My favorite CA memory is the first day of senior year. All the seniors donned Harry Potter garb, our class theme, and gathered at the front of the high school to cheer and welcome the new freshmen. I remember the seniors doing this for me my freshman year, and I loved the sense of coming full circle to bring in new students as we get ready to leave. This was also the first time I had seen my friends since the summer holidays, and the sense of companionship and community was palpable, even under black cloaks and earsplitting chants.
My favorite CA tradition is the post-opening night Red Robin runs. After the first night of every CA show, the cast members and friends who attended go to Red Robin to knock back chocolate milkshakes and bottomless steak fries, the perfect remedy to a long evening of performing.
I would like to be remembered for my contributions to the theater department as well as my academic achievements. My time on stage at CA has been just as valuable as my time in the classroom, and I hope that my hard work in both areas leaves a lasting legacy in the CA community.
Lifelong lessons from CA: One thing that has been instilled in me since my first day at CA in fifth grade is the power of community. As such a small school, I have found that coming together and offering support has been an invaluable part of my high school experience, and I will always carry this knowledge with me in the new communities I encounter.
At CA since Sixth Grade, will attend New York University, Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates
My favorite CA memory was one freezing morning when a few of us arrived at school at about 5 a.m. and made a full waffle breakfast in Kassler, complete with silverware and napkins on our laps. A lot of people were rather confused, but it was a great way to start the day.
My favorite CA tradition is definitely the Senior/Kindergarten buddies! I loved meeting up with Leah at lunch and hearing about life from a six-year-old’s point of view. Those stories are priceless.

Not only was the soccer experience phenomenal, but we also were able to experience the culture of Costa Rica during the trip.
My favorite CA tradition is Homecoming. Being able to hang out and dance

Lifelong lessons from CA: I think the confidence, poise, and courage of my Mock Trial teammates taught me a valuable lesson about approaching high-pressure situations. Throughout my four years at CA, my teammates constantly pushed their comfort zones and delivered excellence that surpassed any expectations, despite nerves and inexperience. My interactions with my teammates and coaches showed me that the team always comes before the individual and that taking risks is often very rewarding.
Attended CA since from Pre-K to 5, and from 9-12, will attend Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, Colorado
My favorite CA memory was in my junior year, during a bus ride to the final round of golf at Evergreen Golf Course. One of my teammates found an early draft of a novel that I was and currently am still writing. As a joke, my teammate started reading it like a teacher in an English class, asking others questions about it to analyze what I had written. The odd part was everyone was actually enjoying the story instead of just humoring it. It was interesting and it is one of the many things that has kept me writing my novel to this day.
My favorite CA tradition is Senior Kidnap Day, as it was a break from classes that was always a welcome surprise when it came. I would like to be remembered for the new art media I introduced to the CA community, digital painting. Digital painting is creating a picture but using a computer to create the image. I draw on the computer and create images using a Bamboo tablet. I showed CA this new art form with my portfolio, and I believe the student body found interest in my work.
