Class of 2010

The Class of 2010 is made up of 81 seniors; it includes the second consecutive year of winners from CA of both the El Pomar Award and the Princeton University Prize in Race Relations. It includes winners of the Colby Presidential Scholarship, the Thomas J. Watson Memorial Scholarship, the Dean’s Scholarship at Pepperdine, the winner of the Never Forgotten Fund award, and a University Scholar at DU, the Presidential Leadership Class Scholar at CU-Boulder, the Eisenhower-Evans Scholarship, and a Daniel Funds Scholar to name just a few.
Each one of the Class of 2010 graduates will attend four-year colleges spanning the nation from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine to Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. This group of students challenged themselves with advanced work in every discipline. They distinguished themselves as honored playwrights at Denver’s Curious Theatre, as top winners in the Regional Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, and as the top teams sweeping the regional Mock Trial Competition. This class includes the winning Math League Engineering Team. It includes members of the All-State Choir, the ACDA National Honor Choir, and Colorado’s All-State Honor Band. It includes editors of CA’s Kokopelli Literary magazine that won the highest award possible from the National Council of Teachers of English.
The Class of 2010 includes the first students who started in CA’s Horizons program. It includes an unprecedented number of Division I, II and III-recruited college athletes to play everything from women’s lacrosse at UC-Berkeley to equestrian jumping at Southern Methodist University. Collectively, they have served more than 45 nonprofit organizations with at least two thousand hours of community service, including the start of a worldwide effort to serve orphans in Peru, the continued effort to serve the education of girls and women in Tanzania, and the feeding and clothing of hundreds of people in need here at home.
In the words of e.e. cummings, “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are,” and we are so proud of who you have become.

Favorite Memory of CA: Going to the State Soccer Championship during my junior year.
Favorite CA Tradition: Going on Interim throughout my years at CA.
What would you most like to be remembered for at CA? For my leadership, and for my hard work in the classroom, the art studio, and on the sports field.
At CA since Pre-Kindergarten, will attend University at Buffalo State University of New York, Buffalo, NY
Favorite Memory of CA: I think the recent memory of beating Kent Denver on our turf my senior year will be a very special memory.
Favorite CA Tradition: My favorite tradition at CA is snack time in lower school. Although we always had the same snack of milk and crackers, I loved it. I especially loved Tuesdays and Thursdays because those were chocolate milk days. When I was in first grade in Ms. G’s class, Alex Leede would always have graham crackers and would refuse to eat the other type. So Ms. G one day asked him why he only ate graham crackers and he replied very seriously, “Because you are what you eat!” ...yep, that’s why it’s my favorite tradition. What would you most like to be remembered for at CA? To be honest, I’m not sure how I want to be remembered at CA, I just want to be remembered. And not simply for my athleticism but my enthusiasm in everything else. Otherwise, I think it’s up to the people currently at CA to decide how they want to remember me.
At CA since Fourth Grade, will attend Villanova University, Villanova, PA

Favorite Memory of CA: Junior and senior years of volleyball. Our coach pushed us out of our comfort zone and wanted us to grow not only as volleyball players but as individuals. By senior year when he would get on us in practice, it didn’t get to me anymore because I finally had “thick skin,” which has helped me a lot off the court as well.

Favorite Memory of CA: My favorite memory at Colorado Academy is my first Giant Relay Day in fourth grade. I had gone a couple times before with my brother, but this year was different and special because this time, I was actually a student at Colorado Academy. I couldn’t believe that I went to a school that celebrated the end of the year with tanks of water in which you get dunked, face paint, balloon animals, and at the very end, a Giant Relay Day Race where you could cheer on your classmates who were participating in the games! It was a great way to end that year, and I couldn’t wait for the years to follow.
Favorite CA Tradition: Senior Boards. I have loved looking at them each year, and I loved making my own this year. I think that it is a special tradition that shows the rest of the school another side of the seniors, and it also shows the seniors how far they have come.

Favorite Memory of CA: My favorite memory of CA is an average memory: it’s the memory of a regular day at school. I love walking through the halls, greeting teachers and administrators, and smiling, back-slapping, and telling everyone I see “hello.” It’s the open and caring nature of CA that allows everyone, from freshman to seniors, to not only greet other students, but legitimately care about them.
Favorite CA Tradition: My favorite CA tradition is the Coffee Haus, where students get to perform in an intimate environment for their peers and faculty. Usually, the student performers “wow” everyone else, and it’s a great, non-partying way of socializing.
What would you most like to be remembered for at CA? I would most like to be remembered for my quirks, my easy laugh and smile, my pride about being 5’6”, and, of course, Daisy the Zebra. Hopefully, when senior pranks are carried out--or any other prank, for that matter--they fit the same guidelines of harmless, funny, and clever.

Favorite CA Tradition: Field Day. I think that it’s a really good way to welcome summer and say good-bye to the school year. It embraces all that summer is about for me, so of course it’s a lot of fun.
What would you most like to be remembered for at CA? I want to be remembered as someone who fit into the CA community well. I have been going here since first grade, so obviously I love it, and CA has been a huge part of my life.

The experience gained can prove to be more valuable than the A in mathematics. Interim gives students insight to what an activity is actually about by letting them experience it themselves. Until they experience something, they can only assume what it’s like. What would you most like to be remembered for at CA? A voice of reason.
At CA since Fifth Grade, will attend Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, CA

My memories include my cat slippers “meowing” during the CAT tests in Lower School, and my best friends and I dancing on the choir steps and making music videos in Kassler before musical rehearsals. My perhaps unnatural ability to find everything hilarious and laugh about everything and anything. My complete love and passion for theatre and the arts, and just hopefully my happy attitude and constant search to make life the best it can be!
At CA since Third Grade, will attend University of Denver, Denver, CO
Favorite Memory of CA: Spending junior year in La Calera, Chile.

What would you most like to be remembered for at CA? For playing the saxophone, creating the first jazz combo at CA and for “The Sidewalks.”

Favorite Memory of CA: The life-long relationships I’ve created. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet some incredible people, and it’s these relationships that I will cherish forever.
Favorite CA Tradition: My favorite CA tradition is Giant Relay day. It’s the perfect way to end the year with great activities, and it just tops off the school year as a whole. Every time this event comes around, you know that it’s that time of the year again and you can begin to see new doors opening up for you.
What would you most like to be remembered for at CA? I would most like to be remembered for my transition from being a shy kid to an outspoken person. I never would have thought that I would have run for class president back in my early high school years. At CA since Third Grade, will attend University of Colorado at Boulder, Boulder, CO

What would you most like to be remembered for at CA? Just knowing that I was a part of a school like Colorado Academy is a treat in itself. I am perfectly happy in knowing that future students will be able to walk down the hall and see the picture of our class. I like the idea that they will be able to look at the picture in moments when they are stressed out by school and know that they are not the first to go through it all and that there is light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.
At CA since Sixth Grade, will attend Claremont McKenna College, Claremont, CA
Favorite Memory of CA: The dance party in Kassler and Students H.O.P.E. finally coming together after five months.
Favorite CA Tradition: Senior Kidnap Day. I loved running down the hallways throwing candy and screaming, and then asking the younger kids do funny things on the bus.
What would you most like to be remembered for at CA? For always trying to include younger kids on sports teams and for creating solid friendships across the grades. Favorite CA Tradition: I really love Interim. What would you most like to be remembered for at CA? My artwork.
At CA since Ninth Grade, will attend American University, Washington, DC
Favorite Memory of CA: Winning the Ultimate Frisbee state tournament this year. Having lost to East High School earlier in the season, we went into our final game against them during State feeling quite skeptical about the outcome. The game was back and forth, and anybody could have won it. However, we played our hearts out, and in the end came out as the winners. It was the first year we didn’t assume we would win, allowing for the win to be that much more rewarding. I have never felt more bonded to a group of girls than these.
Favorite CA Tradition: Interim. It gives you the opportunity to hang out with people in other grades, and people you might not necessarily be friends with, while also trying and experiencing new things. It also gives seniors one last chance to hang. What would you most like to be remembered for at CA? For being someone who was extremely accepting of others, laid back and who could have a conversation with just about anyone.
