Learning about the first 20 elements Here is what you should do:
1. Learn the first 20 elements and their symbols. Although there are over 100 elements, you only need to commit to memory the name, symbol and number of the first 20 elements. A section of the Periodic Table showing the first 20 elements is given in Fig 8.5 below.
Check your understanding
1. Look at the list of the first 20 elements in the Periodic Table in Fig 8.5. Pick out the elements that are not mentioned in Table 8.1, and draw up a table to show: a) their names and symbols b) what the elements are like and what they are used for – to find out, do some research on the internet.
2. Why do you think that water cannot be found in the Periodic Table?
