What to do •
•
•
Decide which multiplication table(s) you want the pupils to practise (see ‘Aim’ above), and display the corresponding Trios slide presentation. Referring to Slide 1, explain to the pupils that the number in the top corner of the triangle is the first number in a multiplication fact (for example 4), that the number in the left-hand corner is the second number in a multiplication fact (for example 11), and that the ant is covering the product of these two numbers (for example 44) in the right-hand corner of the triangle. Display Slide 2 to reveal the product.

• • •
Display Slide 3 and ask the pupils to work out the product of the two numbers, write it on their whiteboard and then hold it up. After an appropriate length of time display Slide 4. Repeat for the remaining 20 slides, quickening the pace as you go.
Variations •
Change the order of the slides, making sure to move pairs of slides, i.e. the slide with the ant followed by the next slide without the ant that reveals the product. Link to division • Move the ant on each slide so that it is covering the number in the left-hand corner of the triangle, for example:
Pupils practise the division facts for the multiplication table(s).

Decide which multiplication tables you want the pupils to practise (see ‘Aim’ above), for example 2, 5 and 10 multiplication facts, and display the corresponding Spinners slide. In fairly quick succession: - press the SPIN button on the left hand spinner to start the spinner going - press the SPIN button on the left hand spinner a second time to generate a number - press the SPIN button on the right hand spinner to start the spinner going - press the SPIN button on the right hand spinner a second time to generate a number. Pupils multiply together the two numbers generated by the spinners, write the answer on their whiteboard and then hold it up. Repeat, pressing the SPIN button twice on the left-hand spinner, then pressing the SPIN button twice on the right-hand spinner, quickening the pace as you go.
