Inspired by the atmosphere and emotion of the Auckland Domain, The Domain Collection commissioned renowned New Zealand artist Carl Maughan to create a work that captures the essence and intangible beauty of this iconic green space.
Maughan—one of the country’s most recognisable contemporary artists—explores the cultural significance of gardens, rendering their dreamlike qualities through a hyper-real aesthetic. His use of vivid colour and simplified composition offers a fresh, modern interpretation of one of painting’s most traditional subjects.
