OCCUPATIONAL TAX DIVISION BY THE NUMBERS
All approved businesses in the state of Georgia that have alcohol licenses must have a City of College Park alcohol license before selling alcohol within the city. Our team will work with Code Enforcement to issue any citations for those who are not in compliance with the ordinance. Penalties/Interest are now being implemented.
TECHNOLOGY UPDATE
Technology Update SagesGov is ongoing, new codes are being added to the system, which will make it easier for officers to write up the proper codes.
CONVENTION CENTER/ARENA/GOLF
July 2024 brought diverse groups onto the Gateway campus starting with the Atlanta Dream who kicked off the first part of the month facing formidable opponents, the Chicago Sky and the Las Vegas Aces. The Union of Tigreans of North America ‘s (UTNA) hosted their 50th Festival, while the Boys II Men, a community leadership outreach event brought local African American males together with community leaders to mentor and expose these young men to options and opportunities in a positive environment and to shoot some hoops as well. Sound of Excellence Sneaker Ball, ACIU Convention and Miss Tutu’s Fashion Show, and the Office of Bar Admissions (our long-time client) closed out the month.

Community Fun Day
Department responded to a multi-alarm fire located at 2300 West Point Ave, Alchemix Chemical Company.
The incident started at approximately 3:00pm and lasted everal hours with neighboring jurisdictions assisting.

NEW CITYWIDE CAMERA UPGRADE
We are happy to report there are 91 new cameras at the following locations: Public Safety, City Hall, Barret Park, Godby Rd. Recreation Center, Brady and Old National Pkwy. We have a project plan that details the installation at the other locations.
COUNCIL CHAMBER UPGRADE:
Training started on Thursday, August 15th for our Deputy City Clerk on using the following modules: Agenda, Citizens Engagement, and Mayor/Council Voting.
ACCESS CONTROL COUNCIL CHAMBER:
We have added access control on the two inner doors where Councilors Gay and McKenzie enter. We will also change the locks on the doors, so they lock automatically.
SMARTSHEET:
We have set up a test environment for this project management software. We are looking to purchase the Enterprise version.
With the opening of the Promise Academy, Mayor and Council approved to change the direction of traffic on John Calvin Avenue and Hemphill to Hawthorne Avenue from a two-way street to a oneway street.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
CRIME/FELONY ARRESTS [SEE FULL REPORT FOR FULL LISTINGS]
3504 Conley St - Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon/Public Drunk/Disorderly Conduct. A College Park Police Officer, responded to a verbal dispute call. A male and female where visibility intoxicated and yelling at one another. Two subjects were taken into custody.
4820 Massachusetts Blvd (LaQuinta Hotel) - Possession with Intent to Marijuana with Intent/Use of a Communication device. After a College Park Investigator was able to secure a drug buy through an informant; 14 grams of marijuana seized. One male was apprehended and taken into custody.
2216 Godby Rd (Chevron Gas Station) - Possession of a Controlled Substance/ Possession of Drug Related Objects/Weapons Violations Offense-Other A College Park Police Officer, while conducting patrols contacted a male loitering in the rear of the building. After a field investigation was conducted a male was taken into custody for four Marijuana, Crack Cocaine, Oxycodone, and a firearm
2216 Godby Rd (Chevron Gas Station) - Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon/Battery. While investigating a suspicious person call, a College Park Police Officer encountered a female victim. Female had been assaulted by a male acquaintance after being involved in an argument. The male had struck the female in the face with a closed fist and pulled her hair The male had left prior to officers' arrival. While giving the female a courtesy a ride home to 2200 Godby Rd, the male subject called the victim asking to come over to talk. Upon the male arriving Officers ordered the male out his vehicle and took the male into custody but not before the male attempted to reach for an AR-15 rifle.; one male taken into custody.

From managing projects for our annual KidsFest to overseeing landscaping for National Night Out, our team remains ever- present, constantly busy, and dedicated to maintaining the city grounds and ensuring the success of community activities. After several rainy days, we took essential steps to keep our city’s landscape healthy and resilient. This included refreshing our flower beds with new mulch and pinestraw, clearing fallen branches, trees, leaves and other debris to prevent diseases and allow the landscape to dry properly, ensuring our consistent aesthetics.
