FISCAL YEAR 2018 FINANCIAL SUMMARY Established in 1967, the College of DuPage Foundation is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation adheres to the highest standards of financial management, and the result is a healthy balance sheet that allows users to consistently provide programmatic support to important College of DuPage initiatives and scholarships for students throughout the community. GIVING SUPPORT Motivate a student, honor a loved one, or expand an educational program. The College of DuPage Foundation is here to help you fulfill your philanthropic goals. To further support the students and programs of the College and increase the impact that public higher education has on our community, please consider the following giving options: ESTABLISH AN ENDOWMENT Endowments are donated funds that are invested in perpetuity. Principal-generated earnings fulfill the scholarship or program fund’s charitable intent as established by the donor when the gift is made. Establishing an endowment is a wise choice if you are eager to see your gift have impact now and into the future. SPONSOR, PARTICIPATE IN OR VOLUNTEER FOR EVENTS Throughout the year, College of DuPage hosts a wide range of community and campus events. Sponsorship support maximizes the return to students and programs. Other ways to get involved are to participate or volunteer at the event. GIFTS OF STOCKS AND BONDS Stocks, bonds, or mutual funds that have increased in value and have been held for more than one year are one of the most popular assets used for charitable giving. By making a gift of appreciated assets, you can avoid paying capital gains tax that would otherwise be due if you sold these assets, and they are tax deductible for the full fair market value when the gift is made. Alternatively, if you own securities that have lost value, you can sell the stock, take a capital loss deduction, and make a gift to the Foundation. GIFTS OF INSURANCE Donors may give new or existing policies to the Foundation. Once the Foundation is the owner of the policy, the donor may make gifts that are tax deductible to the Foundation for the purposes of paying the premiums. GIFTS OF RETIREMENT ASSETS Most people do not use all of their retirement assets during their lifetime. A gift of assets from your IRA, 401k, 403b, pension, or other tax-deferred plan is an excellent way to give back, thanks to special tax considerations. Retirement plan beneficiary designations can be changed at any time. Contact your investment manager for more information. GIFTS IN-KIND Gifts in-kind are non-cash contributions of goods or services.
