IN THE NEWS Architecture Chair Candidates Visit After Spring Break

Students are invited to interact with the candidates for chair of the ISU architecture department, who will be on campus following spring break. Maurizio Sabini, currently an associate professor of architecture and urban design and international studies coordinator at the Kent State University College of Architecture and Environmental Design, will be here March 22 and 23. You can attend his public presentation and open forum from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in Kocimski Auditorium, 101 Design, followed by a reception from 5 to 6 p.m. in the South Forum (near the Reading Room). Sabini will have lunch with undergraduate and graduate students from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 23, in the Lightfoot Forum. Kent Spreckelmeyer, currently a professor of architecture at the University of Kansas School of Architecture, Design and Planning, will be here March 29 and 30. You can attend his public presentation and open forum from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, March 29, in Kocimksi Auditorium, with the reception from 5 to 6 p.m. in the South Forum. He will have lunch with students from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 30, in the Lightfoot Forum.

Urban Planning Expert to Speak on Globalization of Planning March 22 at ISU College of Design Urban planning expert Enrique Silva will address the political and institutional opportunities emerging from the globalization of planning practice in a presentation Thursday, March 22, at the Iowa State University College of Design. Silva’s lecture, “Governance and Planning: Locating the will and power to plan in the Americas,” will be from 3:40 to 5 p.m. in Room 130 Design. It is free and open to the public. [Read more]

Architecture Associate Professor Mitchell Squire Featured in ‘Future Great’s Issue of ArtReview Magazine

Mitchell Squire, associate professor of architecture, is one of 25 international artists to be featured in the ArtReview annual “Future Greats” issue. For the past eight years, the London-based magazine has enlisted leading international artists, critics and curators to select artists whose practices many have yet to hear about, but which might become significant in the near future. For Squire’s feature, a short essay by Chicago artist and Theaster Gates accompanies a pair of images from one of Squire’s recent video works. Both Squire and Gates are College of Design alumni. Squire received a BArch in 1994 and MArch in 2001. Gates received a BS in community and regional planning in 1996 and MA in interdisciplinary graduate studies in 2005. [Read more]

Work by ISA Associate Professor Teresa Paschke in Major Fiber Art Exhibition

Teresa Paschke, associate professor of integrated studio arts, is one of 68 artists from 15 countries whose work is represented in “Outside/Inside the Box,” an exhibition of innovative fiber/textile art that transcends disciplines and combines historic concepts with contemporary perspectives. The show is on view March 3-31 in the Icebox Project Space at the Crane Arts Building in Philadelphia. A closing reception will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 31. [Read more]
