Grandma’s Spaghetti Sauce & Meatballs

Grandma’s Sauce Homemade & Meatball Sp s aghetti

From the kitchen of Grandma Sanfratello. My mom learned this recipe from her mom. Some of my fondest memories include her cooking this sauce on the stove all day. And if my brothers and I would act up, we would catch a whack from the wooden spoon. Tip: Don ’t roughhouse in the kitchen.

Ingredients

Sauce:

● 1 - 8oz can tomato sauce ● 1 - 6oz can tomato paste ● 5 cups of water ● 1 small onion ● 1-3 cloves of garlic ● 1 tsp oregano ● 1 tsp basil ● 1/8 cup parmesan cheese ● 2 tsp sugar ● Dash salt/pepper

Meatballs:

● 1 lb ground beef (80% lean) ● 1/3 cup seasoned bread crumbs ● 1 egg ● 1/8 cup of parmesan cheese ● Half a small onion ● 1-3 cloves of garlic ● 1/2 tsp oregano ● 1/2 tsp basil ● Dash salt/pepper ● Mix all ingredients. Make into 2' balls. Drop into sauce (uncooked).

Preparation

1. Stir all ingredients for the sauce. Bring to a boil. 2. Turn heat down to a simmer. Add raw meatballs (plus Italian sausage, optional - 1/2 lb) to sauce. 3. Simmer uncovered for 3-4 hours. Skim fat off top and discard.

Serve with your favorite pasta. My mom always used spaghetti noodles.
