It was with great joy and happiness that we watched May end with great success. Not only did our monthly #BA5 focusing on Education, Innovation, and Growth at Warwick Farm's Holiday Inn have a full house, I continued to connect with our local businesses in the Canterbury-Bankstown area and Western Sydney. I can see how our local economy is recovering with the spirit of tenacity and innovation.

We're all coming through the hard times together, and the CBCC continues striving to connect you with fellow members and the wider community. Standing together provides us with a stronger voice to advocate for the needs of our members. Our focus right now is on growing on membership, bringing great events, workshops and creating opportunities on which our members can do business with one another. As another year draws to a close, the CBCC welcomes our members to join our 2021 Annual Gala! 2021 has been a year of recovery after the events of 2020, as many of our members continue striving forward in a time of economic and market uncertainty. We have witnessed the great efforts of our members to continue building a vibrant and flourishing community through standing as an example of business leadership. TRADITION OF THE FEDERAL BUDGET By invitation of The Hon. Jason Clare, MP the CBCC was lucky enough to experience the 2021 reading of the Budget and the traditions associated with it. Jason is a Patron of the CBCC and has always been genuine in his approach to our members and the plight of the business owner. He expressed his empathy for the troubles of business owners especially with COVID-19 biting at the heels. In the Canterbury Bankstown LGA and Sydney's West, Jason expressed his delight at the powerful force of hope that the CBCC represented - the heart and spirit of the business community can hold entire communities up and together. Jason's team were friendly and hospitable escorting us to meet The Hon. Chris Bowen MP where the conversation focused on energy and sustainability. Then the questions shot from the CBCC about his time as Treasurer and his experience and the secrets to the next election. Chris shared the assessment of the last loss and then was candid and honest delighting our members.

THE TOUR In a flashback to a school excursion to Canberra, we were given a tour of Parliament House. Our guide was knowledgeable, witty and friendly. Our members were engaged and used this time to network and discuss important issues with one another, take photos with important artifacts and portraits, but most importantly - master the selfie. At the end of the tour, we enjoyed a light lunch and then met The Hon. David Coleman MP and The Hon. Michael Sukkar MP the minister for Housing and the deputy Treasurer. David has recently accepted the position of Patron to the CBCC and thanks to David we were able to watch the reading of the 2021 Federal Budget Live. A big thank you David!

THE DINNER Our dinner with Jason was full of shop talk, conversation. We talked about mental health and its impact on business productivity and community as a whole with David. There was non-stop storytelling and sharing of the lived experiences. There was speculation as to when the Federal Election will be called and of course the enjoyment of delicious food. We were thrilled by drop in appearances by David Coleman, The Hon. Ed Husic MP. A big thank you to our Patrons - David & Jason!

Local bus operator, Transdev are working hard to change the face of public transport and the transport industry more broadly. In the last 4 years, they have recruited 76 female bus drivers and 5 female maintenance staff. In March they are launched their “Women in Transport” initiative with a goal to make a 100% improvement to their current female recruitment figures in 12 months. Managing Director Robert Macey announced the initiative at their International Women’s Day event. “We want to remove the barriers and make a career in public transport more accessible for women.” “We are working to create mum-friendly driver and workshop rosters to provide greater flexibility and working with councils to improve on-the-road amenities for women.” “We are also establishing mentor groups and expanding our community engagement to partner with local women’s charities to support them as and where possible.” To kick off the initiative and promote their female recruitment efforts one of Transdev’s coaches has been wrapped in purple and features two female employees, bus driver Fenella Davidson and mechanic Callie Milne. The Coach can be seen travelling throughout Sydney, when used for Charter bookings.
While public transport is a traditionally maledominated industry, Transdev is doing their bit to encourage more women to join their ranks in all roles. New bus driver, Fenella made a career change last year and hasn’t looked back. “When I started training there was another female in the group and we really leaned on each other which was super helpful. For the whole journey so far the men have been really great. They’re always there to offer advice and the management team have been awesome” she said. Four years ago, Apprentice Mechanic Callie Milne swapped her nursing scrubs for overalls to fulfil her lifelong dream to become a mechanic. “The workshop is a very male-dominated space, but I know I am treated as an equal by my colleagues. I feel so lucky to be doing a job that I love and hope that other young women consider a career in this field,” she said. Every night, thousands of Australians experience homelessness. But it doesn't have to be that way. This year I'm taking part in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout to raise money for the St Vincent de Paul Society to support Australians in need. For one night, he'll be sleeping outside as part of an eye-opening experience to raise awareness and bring home the realities of homelessness. For the past 52 years the Rotary Club of Padstow has presented Carols by Candlelight to help celebrate the joy of Christmas in our local community. On Sunday 19 December 2021, Padstow Rotary Club will again stage Carols by Candlelight at Playford Park Padstow from 6 pm. Due to COVID restrictions, our audience numbers will be reduced to 5,000. Local groups and performers will be providing the entertainment along with numerous other food and festive entertainment stalls. The evening will culminate in a spectacular fireworks display. This year’s production budget exceeds $25,000 and whilst our local Council provides some financial support it falls a long way short of this figure. Hence, we are asking Business & Service Providers to join in the spirit of Christmas giving and help us celebrate Christmas by providing sponsorship. This enables us to continue to put on a bigger and better event for our community. We are able to tailor a sponsorship package to suit and maximise the exposure of your Business.
