Happy New Year from Co-Lin! In this issue of The Colinian, you’ll see photos from our 2021 Homecoming events, which were a huge success. It was wonderful to have so many of our alumni and friends together on campus again. I especially enjoyed hosting an open house at the new president’s home. We were delighted to have many alumni and Co-Lin employees to stop by on Homecoming day. Another bright spot in the week was the retiree brunch hosted at the Thames Center. Many of our former college employees enjoyed catching up with friends and former colleagues, along with all three of our living former presidents. In addition to Homecoming, we’ve been full speed ahead this year with classes, student activities, and more. I’m proud of the way our Co-Lin Family has stepped up to resume our normal activities on campus, while continuing to follow the Protect Our Pack COVID-19 plan. Despite the challenges of the past year, we are emerging stronger than ever. I am eager to begin the spring semester as we work towards the ongoing goal of growing the institution. I invite you to stay connected to Co-Lin, whether by joining the Alumni Association or by making a gift to the Co-Lin Foundation. Athletic Alumni Chapter
Megan Jones (’93) has been elected as president of the Athletic Alumni Chapter. She will be joined by Meleah Howard (’08) as vicepresident and Dr. Dewayne Middleton (‘96) as secretary. All former Co-Lin athletes and coaches are considered members of the athletic alumni association. The group meets twice annually and selects members for the college Sports Hall of Fame.
A wonderful time was had by all who attended the festivities on the Wesson campus during Homecoming 2021. I personally was able to attend the open house at the new president's home, the band reunion, alumni awards banquet, tailgating and the football game. The football team and the band did a great job that day. Thank you to everyone who made these events on campus a success! I had the honor and privilege to introduce the Alumna of the Year, Pat Fortenberry ('61) during the awards banquet as well. She was an outstanding selection to represent Co-Lin. All individuals honored this year were so deserving and truly embody the pride and spirit of Co-Lin. I encourage you to take the time to think of other Co-Lin alumni who should be honored and submit a nomination form to the Alumni office today. During Homecoming, I also had the opportunity to see old friends and make new ones throughout the day. This made me think about so many other graduates from years past that were not in attendance. I realized that I needed to make an extra effort to find those past graduates and invite them to not only become a paid member of the Alumni Association, but to come back to campus events as well. On that day, I made a challenge to myself to reach out to at least one person per month that I knew who graduated from Co-Lin and were not presently active as an alumni member. I now want to issue that challenge to everyone else to try and do the same. I have found it easy to do through social media and looking at past yearbooks. (For those that may not know, past Trilliums are on the Co-Lin website under the Alumni Association tab.) Join with me in reaching out to those waiting to be found. Alumna of the Year Patricia Ann Fortenberry
Patricia Ann (Moak) Fortenberry of Fayetteville, North Carolina and originally of Bogue Chitto, is a 1961 graduate of Co-Lin where she was a member the Young Women’s Christian Association, the Baptist Student Union, the 4-H Club, Future Teachers of America, the Chemistry Club, and was president of the Home Economics Club. After Co-Lin, she attended the University of Southern Mississippi. Upon her graduation, Fortenberry briefly worked as a social worker and a home demonstration agent before becoming a stay-at-home-mom dedicated to raising her two children. In 1975, Fortenberry began her 30-year career with Mary Kay Cosmetics and within two years she was promoted to Sales Director in the top two percent of the company. Over the course of her career, her business expanded internationally to Canada, South Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia. Fortenberry was promoted to Executive Senior Sales Director in 1979, National Sales Director in 1984 and to Senior Executive National Sales Director in 2003, a position held by only three people out of more than one million sales representatives. In 2005, she was recognized as the number one sales representative in Mary Kay Cosmetics out of more than one million people, and had over 30,000 people in her organization bringing in more than $40 million in retail sales annually. Over the course of her career, Fortenberry earned 17 Mary Kay pink Cadillacs and appeared on ABC’s “Good Morning America” with Mary Kay. Fortenberry retired from selling Mary Kay in 2006. Beginning in 2006 after her retirement from sales, Fortenberry signed a contract to travel internationally for Mary Kay to speak to and train sales managers in new markets around the world and is actively involved in assisting Mary Kay with its global expansion. She also authored and published the book “More than Makeup,” which coaches and inspires other sales people throughout the world. She is recognized as an Elite Executive National Sales Director Emeritus within the company and is a member of the National Speakers Association. She and her husband Charles have two children and five grandchildren. The Colinian | 3

Hall of Fame
The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Athletic Alumni Chapter inducted four members into its Sports Hall of Fame during the Alumni Awards Reception at Homecoming on October 28. Those honored were Jason Kinchen of Greenwell Springs, Louisiana, Josh McNulty of Magee, Rebecca Rousseau of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Dr. Kenneth Walley of Ridgeland.

Jason Kinchen Kinchen is a 1995 graduate of Co-Lin where he was a member of the baseball team. During his sophomore season, Kinchen hit eight homeruns and batted mid-370 and was named All-State and All-Region. His team earned a school record for most wins in 1995. After Co-Lin, Kinchen signed with Brewton Parker College, where he was named 1st Team All-American both years, hit 15 homeruns, and batted over 400. He was named national player of the year and the team earned a national championship title. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology. After college, Kinchen played professional baseball for seven years, playing for the Lafayette Leopards where he was named All-Star and League MVP, the Richmond Roosters where he was named All-State, and the Staten Island Yankees where he won a league championship. He also played for the Greensboro Bats, the Tampa Yankees where he won a co-league championship, and the Norwich Navigators where he won a league championship. He also played for the Joliet Jackhammers, and the Fargo-Moorehead Redhawks where the team won a league championship. Following his professional career, Kinchen coached at Central Private School and St. John High School in Louisiana where he was named district coach of the year and won three state championships. Kinchen left full-time coaching in 2019 and became park director for West Feliciana Parish Parks and Recreation. He and his wife Nicole have two children, Kane and Kennedy. Josh McNulty McNulty is a 2000 graduate of Co-Lin where he was a member of the baseball team. During his two years, the Wolves won Co-Lin’s firstever MACJC South State Championship, NJCAA Region 23 Championship, NJCAA Central District Championship, ranked fourth nationally in academics, a school record 47 wins and the school’s first World Series berth during the 2000 season. He was named All State and All Region in 1999 and 2000. McNulty set school records for doubles (17) and runs batted in (53) during the 1999 season and had the second most homeruns (18) and runs batted in (109) in a career at Co-Lin. After Co-Lin, McNulty signed with William Carey University where he led the nationally-ranked Crusaders in doubles (30) and runs batted in (84). He signed a professional contract in 2002 to play in the The Colinian | 4

inaugural season of the Southeastern Baseball League. He split time between the Americus Arrows and the Montgomery Wings and led the Southeastern League in batting average (.375) and doubles (20). During the 2002 season, he signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Seattle Mariners organization and played in the minor leagues with the Inland Empire 66ers and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. He played professionally through the 2004 season. He was inducted into the Mississippi Baseball Congress Hall of Fame in 2014. McNulty earned a bachelor’s degree in business from William Carey in 2003. He owns and operates Apex Physical Therapy in multiple locations across the state. He and his wife Keely have three children, Sly, Elle, and Monroe. Rebecca Rousseau Rousseau is a 2009 graduate of Co-Lin where she was a member of the softball team. She was named 1st Team All-Region, 1st Team AllState, and the team won back-to-back state championships. The 2008 team won the regional championship and finished national runners-up. In 2008, she logged 45 innings with a 4-2 record, while saving five games with 49 strikeouts and only 15 walks. As team captain in 2009, she led the way with a 19-5 record with a 1.91 ERA, while recording four saves. After Co-Lin, Rousseau signed with Belhaven University where her team was the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Champion and earned a sixth-place finish in the NAIA National Championship. Her senior year, the team earned a third-place finish in the NAIA Championship. She graduated received a bachelor’s degree in sports administration and a master’s degree in leadership. Rousseau played in the American International Sports Tours (AIST) softball tournament in Prague and finished third place. She has been an assistant coach at Ball State University and Morehead State University. She also coached at Greenwood High School, where she was an assistant coach for two years and then named head coach. Since 2016, Rousseau has been a prep/production manager at BlueCotton in Bowling Green, Kentucky. She and her husband Marq Moran have two children, Aiden and Ryleigh. The Co-Lin Alumni Association honored five outstanding faculty and staff members during the annual fall convocation held virtually on Zoom. Those honored from the Wesson campus were Mandy Case of Wesson, Dr. Amanda Hood of Utica, and Charlotte Stewart of Crystal Springs. Dr. Allison Duckworth of Mount Olive was the Simpson County Center honoree, and Riley Montgomery of Natchez was recognized for the Natchez campus.

Mandy Case Case was selected as Outstanding Career/Technical Instructor for the Wesson campus, where she is program coordinator of automation and control technology. She is a 1997 graduate of Co-Lin and earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Louisiana State University. Case previously worked as an environmental engineer at the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality for 12 years. She is married to Dr. Ryan Case and they have two children, Logan and Lucy. Dr. Amanda Hood Hood was selected as Outstanding Staff Member for the Wesson campus, where she is the Director of eLearning. She is a 2000 graduate of Co-Lin and earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi College. Hood earned her doctorate from Mississippi State University in 2017. She previously worked as a math instructor on CoLin’s Natchez campus and as an instructor and tennis coach at Hillcrest Christian School. In 2020, Hood served as president of the Mississippi eLearning Association. She is married to Charles Hood and has one step-daughter, Lauren. Charlotte Stewart Stewart was selected as Outstanding Academic Instructor for the Wesson campus, where she is a mathematics instructor. She is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics education and a master’s degree in secondary education with a concentration in mathematics. Stewart has completed additional studies in philosophy at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. She previ-

He received honorable mention All-State in basketball and was co-captain of the team. Walley was also selected to the student Hall of Fame. After Co-Lin, Walley earned a bachelor’s degree from Mississippi College. He received a doctor of dental surgery degree from the University of Tennessee and a master of science in orthodontics from St. Louis University. He opened his orthodontic practice in Jackson in 1980 and in Madison in 1997. He has served as a clinical professor of orthodontics at the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry for more than 34 years.

She is married to Johnnie Stewart and they have two children, Dustin and Daniel, and four grandchildren, Deborah, Ada, Ezra, and Chloe Grace Dr. Allison Duckworth Duckworth was selected as Outstanding Faculty/Staff Member for the Simpson County Center, where she is a biological science instructor. She is a graduate of Jones County Junior College and received a bachelor’s degree in biological science and chemistry, a master’s degree in secondary education from William Carey University, and a doctorate in science education from the University of Southern Mississippi. Prior to Co-Lin, Duckworth taught biology at Collins High School for five years. She is a member of Mississippi Professional Educators. She is married to Todd Duckworth and they have four boys, Jacob, Wyatt, Will and Jay. Riley Montgomery Montgomery was selected as Outstanding Faculty/Staff Member for the Natchez campus, where he works in the maintenance department. He is a recipient of the High Performance Award at Co-Lin and has perfect attendance as an employee. Prior to Co-Lin, he worked at Isle of Capri Casino where he also had perfect attendance. He has also been previously employed by Titan Tire and Johns Manville. He is a member of Egypt Baptist Church in Kingston. He has three children, Keymon, Ronnie, and Samantha, and twin grandsons.
Walley was honored as Co-Lin’s Alumnus of the Year in 1988 and has served on the Foundation’s Board of Directors. He is a past-president of the Co-Lin Alumni Association and Athletic Alumni Association and is a member of the Foundation Hall of Fame. He has also served as president of the Mississippi Association of Orthodontics and the Orthodontic Education and Research Foundation, and is a member of the American and Southern Association of Orthodontics. Walley is a member of First Baptist Church in Madison where he is a Sunday school teacher. He and his wife Rebecca have two children, Kenneth, Jr. and Richard, and two grandchildren. The Colinian | 5

The Band and Colette chapter of the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Alumni Association inducted Janet Douglas Blackmon of Oxford and Charles Edward (Eddie) Steadman, Jr. of Crestview, Florida into its Hall of Fame and honored LaToya Bradley Parker of Brookhaven and Stephen Paul Bush of Summit as the Stanley Stewart Outstanding Young Alumni recipients during Homecoming festivities on Thursday, October 28.

Blackmon Blackmon, the chapter’s 2020 Hall of Fame honoree, is a 1974 graduate of Co-Lin High School and a 1976 of the College. During high school, Blackmon was a member of the band for four years, a member of the flag corps for two years and a Colette for two years. In college, Blackmon was a Colette and was Head Colette her sophomore year. She was also an editor of the Trillium, freshman class president, a freshman beauty, and a sophomore campus favorite. After Co-Lin, Blackmon attended the University of Alabama where she was a member of the Alabama Million Dollar Band Crimsonettes. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority and graduated in 1978 with a degree in home economics. In 1980, Blackmon returned to Co-Lin and became Colette Director, Color Guard Coordinator, and Sojourner Choreographer until 1992. Blackmon moved to Oxford with her family and spent the rest of her career in education, teaching Early Childhood Education at South Panola High School for 18 years and serving as a Dual Enrollment Instructor with Northwest Community College for five years. Blackmon has served on the Mississippi Department of Education Early Childhood Education Curriculum Writing Team and as an Education Methods Class Trainer. She is a member of the Mississippi Association of Career Technical Educators, the Mississippi Association of Family Consumer Science Teachers, and the Family Career and Community Leaders of America. Blackmon was selected as Teacher of the Year in 2004 and in 2020 was recognized as the Mississippi Association of Family Consumer Science Educators Teacher of the Year and was Teacher of the Year at South Panola High School. She is a member of North Oxford Baptist Church. Blackmon and her husband Steve have one son, Douglas. Steadman Steadman, the chapter’s 2021 Hall of Fame honoree, is a 1976 graduate of Co-Lin where he was a member of the marching, concert, and jazz bands, as well as the concert choir and Sojourners. He was selected to Who’s Who in American Junior Colleges and was a twotime member of the Mississippi Junior College All-State Band. After Co-Lin, Steadman attended the University of Southern Mississippi and received a music education degree. He later earned a masters of The Colinian | 6

music degree from Mississippi College. Steadman began his career teaching band in various Mississippi schools where his bands consistently earned superior ratings. During that time, Steadman served as president of the East Central Mississippi Band Directors Association, president of the Capitol District Band Directors Association, and served as chairman of the Music Selection Committee for the Mississippi Band Directors Association for two years. In 1988, Steadman was hired as director of bands at Escambia High School in Pensacola, Florida before becoming the band director at Lewis Middle School, where he fell in love with teaching middle school students and made the commitment to remain teaching at that level. For the next 22 years, Steadman served as a middle school band director in Okaloosa County and his bands received superior ratings at all Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) events, as well as regional and national events. Steadman has received the Citation of Excellence from the National Band Association and the Cox Communications/Bravo Champion for the Arts award. He has been selected as Teacher of the Year twice and received that Oliver Hobbs Award by the FBA. He was named Outstanding Band Director in Florida by the Omega Chapter of Phi Beta Mu and was inducted into the Florida Bandmasters Association Hall of Fame in 2019. Steadman is a member of the Okaloosa County Educators Association, National Association for Music Education, the Florida Music Educators Association, Phi Mu Alpha, Phi Beta Mu, and is a life member of the Florida Bandmasters Association. Steadman is a member of Crosspoint United Methodist Church in Niceville, Florida where he sings in the choir, plays in the church orchestra, and serves on the administrative board. He and his wife Terri have two children, David and Alison. Parker Parker, the chapter’s 2020 Outstanding Young Alum honoree, is a 2006 graduate of Co-Lin. After Co-Lin, Parker attended Mississippi College and received a music education degree. She later earned a master’s degree in music education from William Carey in 2014 and a specialist degree in educational leadership from William Carey in 2017. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in educational lead-

ership from William Carey, with plans to graduate next summer. Throughout her career, Parker has served as director of bands for South Leake County High School, Bassfield High School, Collins High School, Natchez High School, and is currently the band director at Jefferson County High School. She has also worked in special education at Brookhaven High School and Denman Junior High. While Parker has been offered jobs in bigger school districts with better band programs, she prefers to teach in schools with a predominately African American student body to make a bigger impact on the students she encounters. During the pandemic, Parker invented a facemask that was able to be used by bands to better preform. Parker was married to the late Dedrick Parker and has two children, Dedrick Parker II and Patricia Parker. Bush Bush, the chapter’s 2021 Outstanding Young Alum honoree, attended Co-Lin from 2001-2004 and again in 2007. After Co-Lin,
Bush attended Delta State University and received a music education degree. Bush began his career as a band director and music teacher at Washington School in Greenville before becoming the assistant band director for North Pike School District in 2011. He leads the North Pike Middle School band, which has been recognized and awarded for superior performances in both stage and sight reading, and is assistant to the North Pike High School marching band, concert band, symphonic band, and various other ensembles. He is a past president and member of the Southwest Mississippi Band Directors Association, a member of the Mississippi Band Directors Association, and a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity. He is an active member of the Andrew Jackson Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Grand Lodge of Mississippi Free and Accepted Masons. Bush is a member of First Baptist Church in Summit. He and his wife Keely have one son, James Isaac. The Colinian | 7

With 2020 and limited capacity events behind us, Homecoming 2021 was a wonderful time for the Co-Lin family to gather once again and celebrate so many great memories of “The Place To Be.” While the perfect weather didn’t last all day on Thursday, there was still so much to enjoy and celebrate throughout the week of Homecoming. The week of activities kicked off on Monday with a community-wide movie night held in Stone Stadium with a viewing of Hocus Pocus. Tuesday evening was filled with fun at the Homecoming 5K Glow Run, followed by music and s’mores in the courtyard. On Wednesday, CoLin retirees returned to campus for a brunch held in the Thames Center where they were joined by many current faculty and staff to reminisce and share stories. The annual Homecoming Golf Tournament was held on Friday to round out the week of activities on campus. Homecoming day was held on Thursday this year and was filled with fun from the president’s home open house to the alumni awards reception and tailgate party outside the stadium. During the alumni awards reception, Patricia Ann Fortenberry was honored as the 2021 Alumna of the Year. The Athletic Alumni Chapter inducted four new members into Co-Lin’s Sports Hall of Fame. Members of the 2021 class are Jason Kinchen, Josh McNulty, Rebecca Rousseau, and Dr. Kenneth Walley. The Band and Colette Alumni Chapter inducted Janet Blackmon and Eddie Steadman into its Hall of Fame and recognized LaToya Parker and Stephen Paul Bush as the recipients of the Stanley Stewart Outstanding Young Alumni Award. Following a performance by the Sojourners at the tailgate party, Stone Stadium was filled with fans to support Homecoming Queen Madi Miller and her court to cheer on the Wolf Pack.

PROTECTING THE PACK: Three Generations Serve as Police Chief by Anna Grider For almost 50 years, the Roberts family men have been serving and protecting CopiahLincoln Community College through the Campus Police (and even before then, Campus Security) department on the Wesson campus. It all began in the early 1970’s when Kenneth Roberts took a job as campus security, following his service in Korea and having briefly worked as security at a shipping yard in New Orleans, Louisiana. Roberts moved to Wesson and embarked on what would become a nearly 30year career at Co-Lin. In 1981, when the community college system made the switch from having just security to official police officers, Kenneth Roberts became the first police chief on the Wesson Campus, a role he dutifully served in until his retirement in 1997. Ready to take his place at the helm was none other than Roberts’ son, Wayne Roberts, who had begun working at Co-Lin in 1985 in the maintenance department and served part-time with the campus police. “I just wanted to be like Dad – that was the main thing,” said Roberts of his desire to become a police officer. In 1994, Roberts was hired as a full-time police officer and assumed the role of Police Chief in 1997. He continued in that role until his retirement in 2016, after his own 30-year career at Co-Lin. Similar to his father and grandfather that had come before him, Tommy Roberts, having grown up on campus his whole life, knew from a very young age that he would want to follow in his family’s footsteps one day. “From the time I was this tall (holding his hands no more than three feet apart), I’ve been around this campus. I’ve watched PawPaw drive around his old Ford Taurus LTD and would ride around with him. I just always wanted to do it myself one day,” said Roberts. Tommy Roberts began working in the police department part-time in 2007 and became Assistant Chief in 2016 when his father retired, and Alvin Starkey became police chief. Upon Starkey’s retirement, Roberts The Colinian | 12
became the third generation of Roberts men to serve as police chief on the Wesson campus on June 13, 2021. For Wayne Roberts, that day would encapsulate the most rewarding part of his 30-year career. “To see my son take my place,” Roberts said, “that was the most rewarding part of it all.” Between the three of them, there are stories that could be shared for hours upon hours. From streakers to curfew-breakers, to possums and coons getting put in dorm rooms, to super-gluing doors and putting American flags on top of the radio tower, the list of mischievousness from Co-Lin students goes on and on. However, none of those stories could compare to the time a pig from town was loose and rooting up campus. “There’s a picture somewhere of Dr. Garner trying to lasso that pig,” said Wayne Roberts, “and it was hilarious.” Tommy Roberts also recalled how his grandfather was always out “driving around and looking for Clyde.” When he would ask who Clyde was, his grandfather would simply reply, “just whoever was doing wrong.” For Tommy Roberts, the biggest challenge he faces today is, “being able to relate to the way the public sees police officers today.” He continued, “We’re fortunate here that 90% of the time, none of the students we encounter have had any other encounters with law enforcement and we get to be the first. We have the unique opportunity to give them a positive look at law enforcement before they do get out in the rest of the world. I can’t tell you the times we use this job as a learning experience for the students. It’s not all brass tacks sometimes.” While Tommy hasn’t accrued nearly as many crazy stories as his grandfather and father, the best part of the job comes when former students come back for Homecoming and other such events on campus. He shared that, “To learn what someone did when they left Co-Lin and have them introduce you to their kids – that is the most rewarding part.” “Co-Lin has been good to our family,” said Wayne Roberts. “It was fun working here.” As far as continuing in the ‘family business,’ Tommy’s sons, ages 11 and 4, have current aspirations of becoming a pediatrician and a firefighter one day. While time will only tell if there will be a fourth generation of Roberts men to serve this campus, there is one thing for certain, Co-Lin will forever be a safer place for our students and community from the service and protection of the Roberts family and the entire campus police department. We are one grateful and one well protected Pack.

From the Director
Happy New Year, Alumni and Friends! I come to you in this new year with a sense of pride in what we’ve accomplished last year and with fresh enthusiasm for what lies ahead in 2022. The past two years have been a challenge for many of us, but in true Co-Lin fashion, our family of alumni, friends, faculty, staff, and students helped lead the way through the unknown and have helped the college to emerge stronger than ever. This past fall, we were thrilled to welcome you all back to campus for events once again. While the weather at Homecoming was not ideal, the warm smiles and hugs of alumni and friends made up for the gloomy weather. Getting to bring our donors and students together for the annual scholarship reception again was a highlight of 2021, especially after having to skip the event last year. Despite the challenges of the past year, your generosity and commitment to Co-Lin has not wavered. Through your gifts to the Foundation, we were able to provide more support to the college last year than ever before. At a time when community colleges continue to be underfunded, your support means more than ever. No matter the size of the gift, we can all work together to leave Co-Lin better than we found it. Scholarship endowed in memory of David Smith
The David Smith Memorial Scholarship was recently endowed with the Co-Lin Foundation in memory of Smith, a Co-Lin graduate and longtime employee of the college who passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer in 2013. Smith was a 1980 graduate of Co-Lin where he served as an assistant for the softball team while a student. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and a master’s degree from Jackson State University. He began working at Co-Lin in 1982 as the assistant to the dean of student activities and served as cheer coach for eight years. He was head coach of the Lady Wolves softball team from 1992-2001, leading his teams to five division titles, two state championships and two runner-up finishes in the national tournament. He was named MACJC Coach of the Year twice. Smith was instrumental in bringing fastpitch softball to Co-Lin and coached the college’s first team. He was posthumously inducted into the Co-Lin Sports Hall of Fame in 2015. Following his career at Co-Lin, Smith served as an administrator of Copiah County Schools until illness forced him to retire. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, a member of Wesson's Lions Club and reinstated and led Wesson's Boy Scout Troop 125. He was married to Ramona Higdon Smith (’79), and they have two children, Justin David Smith (’06) and Lauren Langham (’07), and five grandchildren. The scholarship will be awarded to a student from Copiah or Lincoln County. Special consideration for the scholarship will be given to cheerleaders or softball players. “We’re so pleased to establish this scholarship in memory of David, who was so synonymous with Co-Lin,” Foundation executive director Angela Furr said. “While his memory is still very much alive in those of us who had the privilege to know him, through this endowment, his legacy will continue on and benefit students for years to come.” To contribute to this or any other scholarship at Co-Lin, visit www.colin.edu/alumni-foundation or call Furr at 601643-8313.
